HOw about white dudes wearing biker attire? Make up and goth outfit? Skater punk? That's what white youth dresses up, and if you had more white players they might prefer to look that way.

Allen Iverson will be getting a lot of fines this year and so will a lot of players. You are not even suppose to wear dress shoes on a basketball court but, now you want basketball players to wear suits on the sideline. How many NFL players or MLB players do you see with buisness casual attire on when they are on the sidelines. I'm not really feeling the rule because it makes no sense. These guys aren't accoutants or coaches they are players they should be able to come to the game in freaking flip flops as far as a I'm concerned. It's an attack on a lifestyle David Stern sees as diffrent. The clothes don't make the criminal, the criminal makes the clothes. John Gotti wore a suit and so did a lot of old school mobsters that didn't make them better people. It just made them some dressed up killers

Here is another question for all you who are opposed to the dress codes...why is it ok to wear uniforms during the game, but it is not ok to have a dress codes??? or better yet, isn't wearing the same color uniform part of a dress code? Look if a player is a spectator siting amongst the fans like ourselves, they can wear whatever they want, but if they are going to be amongst the players, they need to wear their unis or a suit.

Reread the list. Players can wear team issued warm ups if they are not playing. MLB players wear uniforms, or don't sit on the bench at all. NFL players should consider a change. Many of them wear team colors.
Busness casual is not a suite.

Wearing sunglasses indoors shows a lack of respect to everyone. Wearing bling may be stylish, but wearing a $100k diamond encrusted cross is a guaudy display of wealth that is tacky no matter who is wearing and slaps in the face of excess wealth. Wearing another teams clothing is just stupid in my book.
I see at award shows many "hip hop" artists can dress up and look real stylish in the parameters set.
In high school and collge most teams have a dress code. Its a mutual respect thing, not a racist thing.

I would have fought tooth an nail if I had to cut my hair and wear a uni in school. But in my day, nobody got shot for wearing $200 sneakers, and we did not have Prada handbags and other status symbols in the youth market. I don't think a kid should go to school and feel rejected or have lost self esteem cuz their parents can't affort to keep them in the latest styles. Likewise, nobody should overinflate their self worth based on mateial goods.
In good time, they all will be in the real world, but in school this crap is a distraction for the kids.
On the NBA, I would hope that first and formost they are a TEAM. No "I" in team, and thus either they all look good, or all dress in Pajamas! So I think its a good idea to put some uniformity to it. Allan Iverson is part of a team! Allan will find a way to distiguish himself.
Most folks like uniformality. Mob mentality applies to the way they vote, horde to churchs, join gangs, clubs, associations, etc.

The reason such stuff is a distraction in the first place, and mob mentality rules (yeah thats right there is a Black Sabbath early 90's metal reference, Mob Rules, lol) is because there is somethign wrong with the way we bring up our children and the message they get from all those around them in general.
Doing away with personal differences because many can't handle being faced with a contending point of view or can't help but to conform is not fixing the problem of widespread social apathy in our society. When barely 50% show up to vote, you know have a problem. When your nation elects a total moron who has shown he is easily manupalted by the minority right, you know you have a problem.
WE need to be teaching people how to think for themselves, that going against the majority and trying to be the minority influence that just might move the rock is important in a free society. Not that all must become one with the systema, and that is exactly what school unis or any other unis are about. Like I said before, there are places where that is the idea, like the army, or police, where you must be the solider or the law and not yourself first, but in an open soceity that is not how one should be. The corporations woudl love it if everybody just became a generic consume who is easy to sell crap to and keep him glued to the boobtube, but that arent whats good for the people.

I think the vast majority of schools DON'T issue uniforms! I think largely the much diverse styles we see on high school and college campus's verify you point! My kids dress as they like, wear there hair like they want and are very expressive. When its time to go to a function where people are dressed up, my son pitches a fit and wants to go even further than the norm. I applaude his individuality, but there is a time and a place. Now he does not have to go to the event, or he can compromise. We got him a cool white button down shirt, a black velvet free form jacket, black pin stirpe pants and some skater style black hemp shoes. He took an old tie of mine and spray painted over it. He looked different from the other boys, but conformed to the "norm". He was very much his own man and got lots of compliments. The girls thought it was cool, much so than the other boys looking like miniture versions of their dads! My point, my son was respectful to the host, the others whom got dressed up, and did not look like he was rebelling.
Maybe it takes effort!

If I were a patient and an attending nurse or docter came to me with sunglasses and/or iPod plugged in I would have a big problem with it.
If my school teacher wore glasses I think the lack of eye contact would be effective and intimidating for some.
I don't think this is just Sterns own personal ideas, or the rich white owners wishing to reel in the expressive employee and wrestle control back, I think the sponsers are tired of SOME athletes disconnecting with the fan and question the image they portray and might question if its good use of money. I think fans are not cool to tune in and see interviews were they can't see their eyes and seem even more disinterested. The effect is negative.

Guy don't want to put work on his body to stay healthy, is lazy, and all he cares about is his bling and looking fly?" Think some people might think that? And at the same time management is trying to sell billboards in the arena! Get my point? Not you, hell not even me. But there are a MAJORITY of folks thinking that. NBA ain't stupid. They do survays, get the feel of their clients, tix holders, and sponsers. This not done by just a white man in a suit.
Back to the glasses thing: want your attorney representing you to wear glasses infront of a jury? Judge? You gonna lose! People who wear glasses are seen as hiding somthing.
I think the dress code should be: The guys have to wear their uniforms all the time. No other attire allowed.

I never said it was right. I said people do it all the time inside a building and I've seen plenty of baseball players do interviews with their glasses on. My whole argument is this these guys have a physically exhausting job and if I was working for the NBA I wouldn't feel like getting all suited up after the game because we going straight to the bus and probably straight to a plane after that. I'm too poor to afford an attorney.
You keep trying to make this a white and black thing when I'm just telling you it's because of diffrent lifestyles not skin color that most of these guys dress the way they do. The majority of the NBA comes straight out of the inner city and the dress code there is one that screams individualism. So to them dressing like they do is what's right and too other people it's bad publicity. It's something that atheletes shouldn't be made to do. It's their choice

This isn't about professionalism, this is about money. Stern is trying to "clean up" the image so that old white guys don't wet their pants when they see AI dressed like TI. It's all about marketing--but if individual teams want to promote unity with a dress code I'm all for it.
I don't think it is fair to compare the NBA player to other professionals. The whole purpose of sitting on the bench in your "street clothes" means you are too injured or ill to work that day. I don't know of too many "professionals" who are asked to come into work when they are unable to perform any of their duties. They do it to show team support. Hell they could just as easy as the team to excuse them for that period of time and not show their face. Like you would if you are calling in sick. Also does this also apply to cheerleaders, officals, owners (someone tell Cuban then),vendors and fans?

The only problem I have with that is that most professionals don't make 10 million dollars a year. I think most every American Citizen (that isn't an athlete) will agree that all ahtletes are overpaid, which they are. The least they can do is look professional while doing it. God forbid they have to wear Business Casual attire!
