I must say I was extremely impressed with Baron Davis last night. He looked in great shape, very quick with the ball and his passing was extraordinary until the final minute. I saw at least 4 or 5 plays where he blew by Nash or Barbosa and was dishing to guys for dunks. He has a great feel for the game. This guy is a top 5 point guard when he is healthy playing at the top of his game. Golden State got a huge steal getting last year. If he stays healthy, the Warriors are going to be extremely tough to beat. Dunleavy also looked solid.

There's never been any question about how great he is when healthy. He's an outstanding 50 game per season PG
SkyWalker @ 10/28/2005 8:30 AM
Yea but that also has to do with him being in shape which it looks like he is. He slimmed down and looks like he lost a lot of body fat. I'm curious to see ho wlong he can last without going down.
Nalod @ 10/28/2005 8:40 AM
HE can blow by anyone. HIm and steph are very similar, very strong explosive guards. HIs workouts are legend. Just gotta keep the back strong!
franco12 @ 10/28/2005 8:43 AM
I think he'll be more motivated now that he is back in california- who would even want to play for the hornets.

Golden State took a big gamble because if he does go down, that is a big contract they'll have to eat.

I think a completely healthy Baron Davis that is in shape is a better point guard than Marbury. Don't get me wrong, they are both great players. I think Baron is a better passer, they are about equal in terms of beating their man off the dribble, Marbury might be a little better finisher although that can be debated. Baron can definitely push the ball and run a better fast break. He is also a better 3 point shooter in my opinion. He has a quicker release than Steph although Baron's shot selection is sometimes erratic. In the past he would settle too often for the 3 when he can take it to the hole and create instead. Defense I'm not sure but he can't be too much worse than Steph. Overall, I would get Bdavis the edge as a point guard. HOWEVER, he obviously can't stay healthy so I would probably rather have Marbury.
simrud @ 10/28/2005 11:10 AM
Davis is NOT a better passer then Marbury. And the only reason you think he is a better 3pt shooter is because he chucks up 8 of those a game, ala out very own Craw last year.

Davis is really just a worse Marbury, same game, but less passign and terrible shot selection. If you think Marbury does not pass enough, you watch Davis and you will hate his game.
SkyWalker @ 10/28/2005 11:54 AM
Davis is a better passer in the open court and in traffic when he drives the lane. Davis is going to have a huge season if he stays healthy. Huge. 22pts, 8.4 assists, 5 rebounds, 1.87 steals. Write that down. Golden State will be heading for a #4 or #5 seed and then with 15-20 games left in the season Baron will go down and they will be screwed in the playoffs.

If Baron Davis stays healthy, Golden State will make the playoffs.
Watching the game last night, it appeared like the team went the way he went.

The main asset of the pontguard is not athletism or shooting but intelligence and basketball IQ.
That's why Davis and Marbs will never come close to Nash and Kidd. Player can stay healthy, get in shape, practice shots but it is no way to get more brain. If you are stupid – it is no cure for this.
Steph have opportunity to get better this year because of Braun if he will do whatever couch will ask him to do. The pontguard should not be pass first or shot first but think first. Of course if he has something to think with. Sorry… But both Steph and Davis are at the end of the IQ list...

Davis can run a team. Its his ability to orchestrate that will mesh the talents on this young GS team and has them as an expected play-off team at the least in the competition laden West.

I agree, I watched NO last year and thought how much guys must hate to play with BD, and I like him. But in GS he passes much more, I think NO was so bad he just did whatever he wanted to do out there.

I think they have similar games, but steph is a more accurate shooter, and a better finisher. Defensively, BD has to be thee worst pg in the league. But he is super talented.

BD doesn't think he's better than Steph, he said he thinks Steph is the best pg in the league, they asked last year.

Spurs
Rockets
Dallas
Sactown
Denver
Suns
Grizzlies
Seattle

All these teams are better than the Warriors, they will be lucky to make the playoffs, more a less getting the 4 or 5 seed....
