NBA · OT cannot believe how good this Pheonix team is (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 3/5/2006 6:01 PM
the team is perfectly designd to take advantage of the new NBA rules. They counter-attack so hard, so many times--all the players are free with a green light--they move the ball, they can strike from anywhere and its almost impossible to slow it down. If they are successful incorporating Stoudemire back in, even for 20 minutes--they are going to win it all.
Travla @ 3/5/2006 6:24 PM
No they won't.... I love the way Phoenix plays ball but their lack of defense and hard-nosed play will always knock them out of the playoffs. When they decide to play real defense, the offense will fall off but they will have a real chance at winning it all.

Same thing you said last year. Who knows? It may end up happening but it just seems that year in/year out those high scoring, up and down teams struggle playing hardnosed playoff basketball.

They can't win with their poor D, but their success is definitely something to marvel at. Nash is more of an MVP this year than last. PLus D'Antoni should be coach of the year again as well. But no way in hell do the beat the elite teams in a 7 game series: SA, DETROIT, DALLAS. I'd say they could beat everyone else though.
VDesai @ 3/5/2006 7:14 PM
It'll be interesting. THey have better individual defenders on their squad than they had last year (Bell, Diaw, Jones, Kurt etc.). Maybe they are more well equipped to play playoff style ball now.
Elite @ 3/5/2006 7:15 PM
i dont know about that........ the KNICKS beat them after all... im not that impressed with phoenix... they wont beat san antonio dallas has a better chacne
jaydh @ 3/5/2006 8:11 PM
they are a regular season team, playoff team i dont think so.

they knocked off the Mavs without Joe Johnson last year in 6. this team is better.

Anything is possible. And yes, Phoenix is rather impressive. But I cannot go against the Spurs.

Qucik! Someone tell me the last time a run and shoot team won an NBA championship. Times up. NEVER!

The Suns got better when they sent Marbury packing
franco12 @ 3/6/2006 7:47 AM
for everyone saying the suns don't play defense- you really are being fooled by their uptempo style. they play a scrappy, mobile swarming defense and they try not to foul the other team. this is not the D of the knicks of the 90s.
that said, i'm not sure anyone out west will be able to beat the spurs, but both the the suns and dallas are playing better defense
Bonn1997 @ 3/6/2006 8:30 AM
I can't believe how good Boris Diaw is after doing nothing in Atlanta. He was an amazing find by Colangelo.

No way-- the Rockets are winning it all this season.

Actually they are the 5th best defensive team in the league right now. For a while they were even higher, around 2 or 3. They surrender more ppg because they play at a high pace. One you normalize for possessions per game, you see that their plan to improve their D this season actually worked.
fishmike @ 3/6/2006 10:29 AM
they added a bunch of good defenders. In fact Nash is probably the only one not noted for being a strong defensive player.

They lose Amare, and add guys like Diaw, Raja Bell and Kurt Thomas. We add guys like Francis, Rose, James, et all and the Steelers have more wins than we do

sometimes on the surface, things are not what they seem to be, the suns are good at looking below the surface, on the surface, Joe Johnson a very good and young player looked much better than Diaw and a draft pick. Below the surface, diaw is almost a better player for that system, he is tall, long, a better defender, doesn't need many shot, a better rebounder and a decent scorer. the pick so far is gravy... Suns make good moves... very good moves.

Forget whats on paper, in PHX its about chemistry!

Its about a coach and his point being on the same page and thinking alike.

Great points are an extension of his coach.
djsunyc @ 3/6/2006 11:52 AM
it's also a system that all players like to participate in. they're allowed to shoot and there's a pg that has no problems getting them the ball. not everyone can run it. everyone gets enough chances...all they have to do is hit shots.

great player's system especially in this day and age where everyone wants to score.
Solace @ 3/6/2006 12:54 PM
PHXs defense actually isn't that bad. They just have way more possessions than any other team, which skews the stats. They're a great offensive team, but also a very underrated defensive team.
