look how this dude has been playing. right now, based on performance as a starter over 10 games, he goes into second place in terms of NBA rookie stud status/

He wouldn't get PT here.
Caseloads @ 3/9/2006 8:24 AM
if frye was in boston given free reign, please... he's already had 30 point games, and some games with double digit rebounds (i think)

I agree!

The thing is, Gomes is getting these points without being the focal point of the Celts offense. Most of these are straight out hustle points.

Frye has been awful lately and looking quite stiff. He has very little in the post and since teams have played up on him, he's been exposed. He needs to augment his game and get his legs stronger. Ryan Gomes's game is much more fluid and versatile and they are playing the same position *4*. At this point Frye should outplay Malik rose for PT and apparently he hasnt.

completely wrong-- gomes has ben a superior skill player his entire career through HS

realhiphop @ 3/9/2006 9:23 AM
I never said he wasn't a skill player. I was a big fan of him on Providence, and doubted the skeptics that let him drop that far in the draft. The truth of the matter is, he isn't the focal point on that offense. They have Pierce, Szcerbiak and Delonte West as primary options. He's just been extremely efficient with his touches. He's shooting over 60% in like a 10 game period.
edsonline @ 3/9/2006 9:31 AM
WTF does this have to do with the Knicks? Is this ultimateryangomes.com? Who cares? Isn't this what the OT forum is for?

I think the Celtics and Danny A were kind of hiding from taking a hit--I mean their use of the MLE was just about as bad as ours -Scalbrine and Dickau, their trading in general has been eh at best, but their draft picks have been saviours. They work with less than half the $$$ we do, but their future may very well be on a brighter upswing coming up. It will be interesting next year if they can get Jefferson to start plugging away at C.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Yeah the Knicks don't need players like that who hustle.
realhiphop @ 3/9/2006 10:38 AM
You totally misread me. I'm saying that he's been contributing these numbers off of sheer hustle and efficiency when he's playing (which is a good things). He was able to put these numbers up without being the go to guy on offense. I think David Lee did contribute to a similar extent except maybe not having as much polish on his offensive game.
EnySpree @ 3/9/2006 12:54 PM
Charlie Villenueva and Gomes both did not get much props from anyone and they both are killing the league in their rookie seasons....

Charlie Villenueva is an awesome talent. Wish we had him.....then again Brown would have killed his confidence long ago....same with Gomes.

the idea that the 3 we have just aren't as good as hyped never enters your mind?

And I am not talking about strictly talent. If it was just about that Harold Minor would've been an all-star 10 times over.
