AJC.com - A Maryland court this afternoon lifted the ban that it last week placed on the Hawks and Thrashers signing players to multi-year contracts.

The new order states that the Hawks can trade for players who have no more than 4 years remaining on their contract. The same goes for free agent signings.

Any transactions that go beyond the new conditions – i.e., exceed the salary cap or result in the acquisition of contracts longer than four years – would require unanimous consent of the Atlanta Spirit board of managers. Essentially, that means Belkin would have to agree with the other owners to make such transactions.

Just moved this from the other NBA forum. It's good news for other teams

Thanks for posting in the appropriate forum TMat614, but it's offseason and slow news and we'll get more chatter here.

OMG... that has to be a ToS violation. Bad admin. :P j/k

It is good news. Only problem is the Hawks may have been a little out of free agent negotiations this whole time, because of it, so I don't know what ramifications that will have.

They have cap space and roster space and can facilitate and aquire players. This helps the possibilities for ALL teams.

Think they'd give up Josh Smith for David Lee?

I'd rather have David Lee.

Not unless they're insane. That'd be a freaking coup.
