First 3 guys are officially CUT. Releasing Petigout is VERY risky.

i'm happy as hell to hear about the Arrington, Emmons, Morton & Whitfield cuts... not so happy about Petitgout though... we'll need to target a bigname OT in free agency to take his place... isn't Orlando Pace a FA this year?

David Diehl will be the Left Tackle most likely with Seubert moving back in at LG. I don't think Pace is an FA. My guess is we'll throw big $$$ at a linebacker or CB with the space we freed up. Someone like Briggs or Clements.
BTW, Whitfield has retired.
All I can say is THANK GOD. I was so sick of watching Petigout get false start and holding calls game after game after game. Good riddance Luke. We'll draft a nice LT in the draft hopefully and sign a stopgap for the draftpick to contend with.
I hope that Arrington is brought back for reduced money, but I doubt that happens. In that game where Arrington got hurt against Dallas, he really began playing pretty well and he would have added a new dynamic to the Giants defense. I doubt he's back though. Emmons - who cares. He was constantly injured and he's an EAGLE.
Lance Briggs would be a nice replacement... Giants also need to clear up some money to re-sign Shockey, so maybe this was done w/that in mind... i think we'll probably end up drafting a cover corner & OT in the 1st 2 rounds in the draft & then sign a veteran LBer like Lance Briggs like you said.
Luke was a really good player when healthy and a an excellent run blocker. We'll miss him. But my guess is his health wasn't up to par (he was on IR at the end of last year).
Arrington is probably physically shot as well because we don't get any cap savings by cutting him (actually a cap hit). Emmons was a no-brainer to cut.
funny thing is i released or traded all 5 of those guys in Madden 07 after the 1st season of franchise mode... i must be psychic or some sh**.
of course, i created & signed myself to a multi-million dollar 7 year contract to be the lockdown cover CB/playmaking KR this franchise needed a-la Neon Deion.

Luke was a nice player when he was committing penalties. I swear, he had more false-starts than any lineman I've ever seen.

i second that..i hear it's hard to find a good LT

The false starts were a problem all along the 0-line, not just Luke. Dunno what the deal is, but the lack of discipline has been a teamwide problem, but its no use re-hashing the Coughlin debate now.
Left tackle is the hardest player to find on the O-line. Diehl did a good job in 2 games late last year, but he's not a natural LT. The only other in-house option is Guy Whimper, who is very athletic, but very raw. He's probably not ready to play yet.

Only problem is Luke was paid like a GREAT player. I think his run blocking was a bit overrated and Tiki made a lot out of a little. We overpaid Pet

Eh, he was getting about $5 mil a year. That's pretty much the going rate for a quality, starting left tackle in the NFL. If we sign someone to replace him expect to pay at least that much, probably more.
i'm happy to hear that Whitfield retired... i think this team needs a shakeup w/some new, hungrier blood & guys who know what it takes to win big games.
Chad Morton just got cut today too... i was expecting that... i hope we get to see Sinorice Moss returning more kicks in 2008.

Me too man. I have high expectations for Sinorice this coming year.
we need to become a faster & more athletic football team all around... Moss has playmaking ability... i hope Kiwanuka has more of a role next year in the defense too, cuz that guy is gonna be a star.
i hope Reese goes hard & heavy after Michael Turner from SD too... he'd be a nice fill-in now that Tiki's retired... we have the cap space to do some things now at least... depending on how he does in the draft, he might turn out to be a good GM afterall... but the jury's still deliberating on that one.

Morton was away on honeymoon yesterday and they couldn't reach him. He was in the initial group I mentioned yesterday. It's too bad he tore his other ACL. He's probably done...

Forget about Turner, he will be tendered at a first round level. He's not worth a huge contract and a first round pick. Jacobs will prove to be fine. They just need to add a complementary back like Kenny Watson or Dominic Rhodes.
I read yesterday that the new DC is planning to get Kiwanuka on the field at LB sometimes to try and generate more pass rush.
wow, Kiwanuka would make 1 TALL LBer... on blitzes it could work i guess... but he definitely can't cover TE's or backs on passing routes.
no way would i give up a 1st rounder for Turner... i agree, if we could get a Dominick Rhodes style back to share some of the load, i'm fine with it.
