i've been hearing some real mixed reviews on Watchmen, but most saying it was pretty disappointing... everyone i asked said it ran way too long & the plot was way too confusing to get for the lay viewer who isn't familiar w/the graphic novel... i think i'll wait for a good download to come out to watch this one.

read the graphic novel first.

Was that Billy Crudup's real penis? Btw I really enjoyed the Watchmen but I don't know if the subject matter can appreciated by a mass market. It's really graphic a lot violence and sex I personally didn't mind but this isn't the film to bring you kids to. Some complained about the length I thought there was no way you could do this GN justice without it being close to three hours. Some the performances were okay but I thought the Comedian, Rorschach, and Dr Manhattan gave really good performances. I thought it was solid for a mass release movie adaption can't wait for the DVD with hopefully an extended version.

Su,

What did you think of the film some people complained about the ending but I just don't think the GN ending would have worked on the big screen?

the ending they used in the movie made sense. the GN ending wouldn't have worked today (like it would have in 85). the chick was hot but just a terrible actress. i thought the movie was really good. it's a no win for zach snyder b/c it's not condusive to being a movie, but he took on the task and i think he did a good job with it. it's amazing how close the imagery was to the book. impressive really.

saw some mo' movies:

race to witch mountain- saw the original as a kid watching the disney movie night on nbc and loved it. haven't seen it since but this one wasn't good. the rock gives a solid performance and i don't understand why he is lagging behind. he should be a legit action star now and he is doing movies like these. the sfx were the worst i have seen in awhile. you can compare these effects with the buck rodgers show in the 70's. i don't recommend this garbage.

quarantine- this was the best horror movie that i have seen in years. THOROUGHLY enjoyed it. i first love the way they use sound and the environment to make it scary as well as the claustraphobia aspect. the beginning was just as important as the rest of the film because you end up caring and liking the characters so you want them to survive this. the first person pov gave a new reality to towards the jump scenes, much better than what they did with cloverfield and the blair witch project, quite possibly the most overrated horror movie of all time. if you are a horror fan, i highly recommend this movie.

twilight- i did not read the book so i am going in cold but the movie was decent at best. after watching true blood, which is an adult version of this story, this movie was just average. i thought the characters weren't engaging enough and though i like myths and folklores and how they differ in films, this one was just meh. i mean it got me hooked enough to getting around and renting the new movie which will come out this year but i am not going to go out of my way and watch it at the movies unless a date drags me.

punisher warzone- though i am a comic book fan, i never collected the punisher. i thought the character was cool but the stories just doesn't do it for me. i don't understand why they made three movies and still can't get this character right. this is one of the worst, down with dolph lundgren. the acting was extraordinarily bad, especially west as jigsaw. after a summer with great comic book villians we receive this garbage. stevenson as the punisher was great, though and gave the best performance of the character. this is by far one of marvel's worst movies.

Saw "The Wrestler" the other day

Pretty depressing movie, but Mickey Rourke was very convincing as a past his prime professional wrestler that made a mess of his life and wants to try and salvage some kind of relationship with his estranged daughter. Marisa Tomei puts in a nice performance as the aging stripper that's the only person who really cares about him at all in this movie. She still looks damn good btw. Storyline was nothing special but Rourke's performance carried the movie, sorta like Clint Eastwood did with Gran Torino. Worth a rental if you haven't seen it yet.

One of the best movies made, ever, all-time. It is just so FUN, you feel like you're in a video game. What a rush!

We are never speaking again! I hate that girl she is possibly the most annoying female character in modern cinema. In Dexter she's okay with her because she's always has some fine ass man but when the tears start it's like someone scratching the blackboard.

saw Terminator Salvation this past weekend... gotta say i really enjoyed it... there were alot of borrowed elements from the movie 'The Road Warrior' & it sorta reminds you of 'Transformers' & 'The Matrix' in other ways... the CGI was awesome & intense action throughout the movie... the storyline and main characters had enough developing & backstory that you knew about already from the original Terminator movie, so they didn't have to waste time with unnecessary fluff in this one, but the 2 new key roles of the resurrected Death Row inmate & the fighter pilot work really well into the movie & almost coulda been the main storyline on their own. Definitely recommend you go see this one in the theater.

No one saw Star Trek? I'm not a fan of the show(s) and haven't seen all of the movies, but if you like Batman Begins you'll like the new Trek flick... they essentially followed the same formula, except this one is saturated with special effects

Amy Smart and David Carradine were intersting but not on screen enough.
I love Amy Smart in this movie.

Saw Star Trek and the new terminator movie. The terminator salvation was better than terminator 3 rise of the machines but it still sucked. To my eyes there was only 2 terminator movies. Star Trek was awesome even considering I am not a trekie

Saw the movie "Up" you will think it was a kids movie but surprisingly I saw many adults watching it and few kids. It was a good movie you guys should check it out.
jazz74 @ 6/1/2009 12:27 PM
i already did the reviews for "star trek" and "wolverine" on their threads. one i was very impressed with the other i was disappointed so i am done with that:

up: suprisingly good movie and pixar keeps hitting these out of the park. the characters are the best hing about this movie as all of them are charismatic. the only flaw is that the villian is too contrived but its a kids movie so rarely do they have any depth ( except in the "incredibles"). highly recommended and see it in 3d.

the curious case of benjamin button: excellent movies that deserved all the accolades. definately a forest gump vibe to the movie and the actors were excellent. however, brad pitt and cate blanchett rose to the top of some well rounded actors to deliver the best performances. pitt was highly convincing and the sfx were flawless. i was suprised that most of the movie showed buttons as an older man instead of doing the easy way and having a big portion in his 30's and 40's. highly recommended.

my bloody valentine- i was a small child when the original came out but i was scared of the commercials. i saw it when i was older and compared to the other "slasher films" of that era, it was very mild. this one sure isn't with so much blood and gore that i am suprised they did not run out. one thing i like is that it brings back the "slasher/mystery" that was done well in some of the scream movies and most of the 70'/80's movies had them. this movie delivered on the goods well and it is one of the better horror films out there. i only wished i was it in 3d. recommended but not for the squimish

quantum of solace- i am not as big of a james bond fan like i used to be when i was a kid but i still watch the new ones. i thought casino royale was overrated with bond trying to be bourne which i thought was stupid. this one was more the same however i liked this more. the reason why? the action sequences were great and the pacing was much better. is bond still trying to be borne? yep. but he did have some better gadgets in the movie which really makes bond, well, bond( bring back another q and it would be back on the right track).i recommend this for the action buffs.

there were a lot of other movies i will review within the week.
jazz74 @ 6/5/2009 8:37 AM
role models- this movie is gut busting funny. very crude. almost to the level of bad santa pertaining kids but good. scott and rudd had great chemistry and scott was not annoyingly energetic which he can get sometimes. this is one of the movies, like 40 year old virgin, where the supporting charaacters shine just as much or even more so than the lead, especially the head counselor at the big brother/ big sisters club. highly recommended.

slumdog millionaire- i dont know if it was worth the hype and probably wouldnt have seen it if it wasnt hyped but very enjoyable. the tale of this man's journey was touching and definately gave a gritty and dark perspective of life in india for those who have no choice but to do what they do to survive. the acting was superb and the direction was flawless though. i do recommend this movie but i find myself enjoying " the curious case of benjamin buttons" more.
TMS @ 6/6/2009 1:42 PM
jazz, benjamin button was good but i thought it dragged a little... it's definitely similar to forrest gump like u said, but unlike forrest gump that kept u into the movie by having several completely different stories with the same characters, benjamin button had the same character in the same story pretty much throughout, & u already pretty much knew what would happen to them at the end... the theme of death throughout the movie in the old folks home made the feel of the flick kinda morbid & depressing, so i didn't enjoy it nearly as much as i did the gump movie.

also thought slumdog millionaire was better, but to each their own.
