Solace,
Will you say the same thing when we are in 7th place?
If we're below .500, yes. Simple math.
Ahh but 7th place is closer to the top than the bottom.
How are you ok with that? It's ok that we suck because the rest of the league sucks?
ny4ever, i didn't forget your question. I'm not okay with losing 45 games year in year out. But see the post i qouted above, this is the year we should have had last year. If we 'suck' this bad next year, let me have it and i'll probably agree with you. But i think you and solace both are showing too little patience and ignoring the damage done last year and the hole we had to crawl out of. Thats what i think. AND I am on record saying i expect 45 wins next year and to leave the era of 'suck' behind.

Marv - nice shot. check it out...Toronto, everyone's designer playoff pick at 34-29, is within striking distance.
Don't get me started.
so these 2 games coming up against them should say a lot, right?
who's gonna slow down tj and calderon?
who's gonna get out on the 7'0" bargnani's 3-pointers?
who's gonna body bosh inside?
who's gonna match garbajosa's intensity?
who's ganna find out who dj's really rooting for in those games?
Who?

It takes balls thats who!

question is: WTF are they? Balls, an ass, for some animal pussy?
Same question we might ask of some of the local posters round here!

I don't disagree Kam, this team's process has been retarted a bit because of last year, but I still don't have ANY faith that the right parts will be brought to this team to take them to the next level. To get these parts, you need high draft picks and cap-space, two things we have none of. I just don't see how we are going to get the pieces we need, especially when our cap situation doesn't clear up until 2009 until then we will be relying heavily on older guards who have a ton of miles on them. And what happens in 2009 when Marbury does come off the cap, Lee and Frye will be paid or traded, theres not going to be much cap room to go around to get what we need to put AROUND our "franchise", Eddy Curry. This is why I do not advocate the route we are taking, we are building around the wrong player.
Is it too early to get this going?

You know what all this arguing proves about the Knicks?
We are a mediocre team.
I will surely admit we're a mediocre middling mid-level, middle-of-the-road team. Check out this post from nyknicks12 in the NYtimes forum
In the games I've seen this year, approximately the same number of games as last season, I can see a big difference in Stephon Marbury that does not necessarily reflect in his numbers.
He doesn't tune out of the game when he is on the bench. He is demonstrably more vocal on the floor. He gives "attaboys" to his team mates and from my observation his game reflects a "What do you need me to do? What will help us win?" attitude.
Right now this team is exactly positioned where it should be given the level of talent and experience going out on the floor... they ain't bad. And NOT BAD was the best we could legitimately hope for this season. I may not have posted much this year, but I have been consistent in using "Not bad" as my measuring stick.
This is where this team should have been last year. This year they should have had a reasonable EXPECTATION to a. Make the playoffs and b. Do better than one and done.
This team as presently constructed should have been an OK to Pretty Good team this season, but that would have been unjustly ignoring the god-awful clusterfreak of last season.
It is TOTALLY evident that last season may be laid squarely at the feet of Larry Brown - whose hiring I supported.
Isiah brought these players here and has sold them on his vision.
Sometimes it ain't pretty, but there ain't no quit in this squad.
As the Answer Man used to say,
"These guys don't do nuttin' easy."
Throw out last season's disaster and Isiah has not only raised the Knick ship of state from the floor of the Atlantic (division), he has it gaining steam and going in the right direction.
The dude deserves props.
THIS WAS A GREAT POST! To start with this team came from the bottom at the start of the year, so what exactly is the point of saying they're not a title contender. As if that's some new bulletin. I think ALL OF US, already agreed that we couldn't expect this team to be in such a short time. In fact even if you go all the way back to Isiah's 1st year, it's not that reasonable to expect that he would turn that old tired team over into a champion inside of 3 years. So I really don't get the point of this argument at all.
2003-04 You can't really hold this half season against him. His moves actually did make a difference, but I can't hold this half year against him
2004-05 He gave it one more shot with the old order of H2O and KT and once he saw that this was a waste and could convince Dolan of that, he moved quickly to go in a new direction.
2005-06 Lots of moves, good draft picks and a new coach. It should've been the start of a new beginning.
2006-07 The team develops a sense of self and comes together. Making gradual improvement is a good sign.
Now looking at this period of time exactly how could any GM have remade the team in that short a period of time into a Title contender? How many other GM's of losing teams like us, have succeeded in doing that? The closest team I can think of is the Suns. Even they aren't a lock to make it to the finals. Besides that team had a much better base to start with at that time, than the Knicks had back when Isiah took over.

Your 80 percent figure "for overpaid, mediocre players" is severely flawed... if not a downright falsehood. A majority of the Knicks roster is under 27 years old
What does age have to do with it? I said 80% of the roster has no trade value because they're overpaid, mediocre players, indicating that salary does matter. How many players on this team do you think GMs would give up even an expiring contract and a mid 1st rd pick for? That's not even much to be giving up, yet I'm not sure if they'd do that for anyone other than Lee. Maybe Curry. So 1 or maybe 2 of our 15 players have respectable trade value. That's by far the worst in the NBA. We're in a great position to the get the players we need to build around our franchise center!
Bonn - no trade value? C'mon, that was the same thing said about Scott Layden's dreck of a roster.
If Clarence Weatherspoon can be traded then anyone can be traded.
Bonn - you worry too much about things you cannot control. Can the Knicks beat the Raptors in Toronto on Wednesday night?
besides, if Isiah Thomas continues finding hidden gems in the draft like David Lee, what me worry?
NO one liked Lee on draft night as much as they love him today
Isiah knew
[Edited by - misterearl on 03-12-2007 5:36 PM]
if Isiah can draft another sleeper like he did w/D Lee last year this team will be in good shape... let's say for argument's sake, he gets us a perimeter defender w/high IQ that can hit an open shot... or a tough, gritty shotblocking frontcourt player that can defend the low post... these are the types of players we need to complement the players he's trying to build around.

The players can be traded but not for anything good. Just answer my question about how many players on this team you think GMs would give up an expiring contract and mid 1st rd pick for.

Cool, so we can expect more of the Starphuck trades and having more #1 unprotected picks thrown in for the hell of it.
the timing of the extension?
jamal's out for the season.
lee's still not back and may be out for a few more weeks.
quentin, after 3 off days, still can't play b/c of his back.
maybe the health of the team dictated the extension announcement b/c if this team starts to lose as the schedule gets a little tougher, it's much easier for the press and fans to get on dolan if the team's record is not reflective of "significant improvement."
so i can see the timing of it.
I guess I'm spoiled going to school out here in San Diego but I think that Jessica Alba is alright, nothing more. Not feelin' Norah Jones. She has such a self-absorbed vibe that her looks cant back up. Loves white boys too.
