misterearl, he admires your self control because he wishes I didn't get to him as often as I do, where he completely loses his.
It's a beautiful thing knowing how much I own him.

Misterearl -- I admire your self-control.
I guess it's easy if you remember, when dogs bark at humans, humans don't bark back!
Same goes for when Dogs post:

"Me Hate Isiah!" "Mr. Earl, you is Full O' Crap!"

Awwwww Another cute little puppy.
That's adorable.
not so adorable when that little mutt's taking a whiz on your laptop keyboard.

Well, I think you should reprimand him this time. Why do I always have to be the bad guy? He belongs to all of us, not just me!
EDIT: Or maybe he just belongs to Isiah Thomas? Somebody call the pound!

This post is ridiculous...I hate the internet.
Counter it. Let's go, don't be critical without backing yourself up.
How is he "hurting the team" when the Knicks eclipsed last years win total in February, and are controlling their own playoff destiny? Everything is laughably skewed towards the negative.
oohah - no big deal.
Anyone who can't look ahead to the excitement of meaningful games of March and April, without complaining about the salary cap, should just find another hobby.
Besides, anyone who thinks that the prime directive at 2 Penn Plaza is getting under the salary cap is...well...
... let's just say they are more delusional than Latrell turning down $26M because he needed to feed his family.
Forward, march!

nyk4ever and Bonn1997 - there is no such thing as a "manageable" salary cap in New York
never has been. never will be

I still don't understand what you mean by that. I asked you last time but you didn't respond.

So why do you think that getting Anderson and Houston off the cap, will help?

The way Isiah earned his contract extension is such a smoke and mirrors approach.
Isiah took the player that *he* was accountable for in acquiring in Eddy Curry, who had/has major question marks and force-fed the ball down his throat so that his scoring numbers would be inflated and that would sway the fans and the owner, all the while Curry's rebounding and defensive numbers have suffered, which hurts the team. As I've pointed out before, Eddy's stats in rebounding, blocking, stealing are all down per minute, but the scoring, the only category most people choose to look at is up per minute, but only by percentage points, but who cares about what he's really doing for the team anyway.
So Isiah got an extension by making it look like the "FRANCHISE PLAYER" got much better, when in reality, it's only because he's playing the guy 35mpg.
Life is grand being a Knick fan.
Eddy has never been able to play 35 minutes before because he could not stay out of foul trouble and lacked conditioning. IT has got him to the point where he has learned how to stay out of foul trouble and his conditioning is decent. Curry's FG percentage is not smoke and mirrors, nor are the double teams he faces every game, which creates open shot opportunities for his teammates. Not saying Curry does not still need to improve, but to suggest that all IT did was increase his minutes is a gross overstatement.
Now since isiah got his extension, watch the knicks team fall into a comfort zone knowing that isiah will be back next season with his dual role and falter from here on end.
The dummy owner should've waited until the season ended.

That's the hope.
Knowing Dolan, could giving Isiah an extension be a subtle hint that he plans to fire Isiah at the end of the season? C'mon guys -- use Dolan logic.
I think Isiah has done a terrible job as GM, but a decent job as coach. I'm okay with a move that has him extended as coach while officially relinquishing GM duties. I also stand behind my statement that Isiah hasn't done anything to warrant an extension, but I'm not completely against the move either. It just sucks that the only coach who gets support from the GM (himself) and Knicks management is when he coaches the team himself, isn't it? That's the obvious reason for the 'improvement'.

I didn't see enough of Curry when he was a Bull, so I don't know in what context he got his rebounds and blocks, but there were never very many of them and Curry shoots 58% with defences knowing he's getting it, so not force feeding him the ball would be foolish.
We haven't seen IT learn from his GM mistakes yet. Not making a trade at the deadline is his only current achievement. My hunch is that IT is learning on the fly. If he were fired he might make someone else a nice GM. Since he is ours, let's hope that he can learn from his mistakes even though he apparently will not be punished for them.
A playoff appearance would be a shocking and wonderful surprise. IT the GM will continue to benefit from IT the coach because it will limit his desire for headline grabbing "Star-phucking" and focus more on skills and quality. That's my hunch anyway.

The Knicks have been falling into that comfort zone all season, but the thing is, with all the injuries, they are in no position to even do so. They'll get creamed.

If Eugene, the Garbage man from Queens who casually follows the Knicks, knew Zeke was coming back do you not think the players knew as well? This was not the worst kept secret in the world. The timing is curious, but I dont think its an excuse to predict doomsday scenarios.
Bonn1997 - if you look at the history of the Knicks franchise, dating back to the days of Gulf+Western, the objective has NEVER been to manage salaries. The Knicks have been top-bidder for players like Bob McAdoo, Truck Robinson, George McGinnis (to a league penalty), Kiki, Paul Westphal, Spencer Haywood...
the list is infinite
The corporate philosophy was always to maximize the advantages of having cash reserves deeper than Lake Tahoe. The resentment for those riches created animosity around the league long before Isiah Thomas.
Gulf+Westerm, Sonny Werblin and Dolan all understood that in order to remain competitive and maintain headlines and attention in competition for the NY entertainment dollar, you gotta make a splash.
They pursued the big names that would look good on Broadway.
Was it the correct philosophy to produce a champion? Obviously not. The bright moments of the Ewing years were tempered with coach and front office turnover... and the reliance on spending cash to fill holes, over having a long range strategy.
Note how quickly, without the continuity of philosophy, the Knicks fell apart when Ewing was shown the door.
All I am suggesting, as my my rembee suggests, is that continuity (with young players like Frye, Crawford, Curry, Collins, Balkman and David Lee) is a good thing. That continuity, starting with young players who have skillz, not the dreck the Knicks have historically drafted...
...is a good thing.
where the franchise goes from here is anyone's guess.
But if one takes the blinders of resentment off and takes a fact-based look at this season's month-to-month trends...
and the noble idea these guys fight back whenever they have been left for dead... like after the Denver fight or after the sad month of November or after the heartbreaking Seattle loss...
...how can one only bitch and moan about the salary cap?

Dolan doesn't plan that far ahead. I'm not sure if Dolan knows what Dolan wants, except for the basic, "make $$$".

So what if the Knicks eclipsed last years win total when last year was the year in the history of the franchise. It's not like Isiah was part of last year, he was the GM that brought in Brown and he was the GM that brought in the players that didn't work WITH Brown. It's not like this is year is a complete fresh-start for Isiah, he's been here for years and it's been nothing but mediocrity. Everything is laughably skewed towards the positive.

Ok, Curry FG% is up and he's playing more minutes. These things are good. Why do completely pass over the fact that his numbers per minute are down in rebounding and other defensive stats, as well as the fact that Curry is a complete liability defensively and he's out there more minutes now.
More minutes USUALLY = more numbers, but I guess when you are Eddy Curry more minutes = more scoring, less everything else.

it'll be interesting to see... they could also play better now that they don't have to be tense wondering about their own futures & whether or not Isiah will be here next season... we'll see how it plays out.

Wow I hate this move. I know I know I'm a hater. If the Knicks were inclined to grant an extension at least wait until the Knicks season is complete. Take the case of the Detroit Pistons: Rick Carisle was fired after having won 50 games but because the Pistons were swept in the Conference Finals the owner found that reason enough to fire him. Than ask yourself why the Pistons are continuously in the hunt for NBA Championships while teams like the Knicks are barely flirting with a playoff berth.
Carlisle got fired because LB wanted the job and nothing else...
Assuming what your saying is even true would you think it was justified for Isiah to get fired if the Knicks had a 50 win season and made it to the Eastern Conference Finals?

The salary cap rules were very different recently. Now, you're actually stuck in the mediocrity we've been stuck in all decades if your payroll is completely out of control because 80% of what you have are overpaid mediocre players that no one wants. And the other 20% (Lee, Balkman, maybe Curry) are not great enough to build *around* or to land players to build around
