Marlon Anderson is a a**hole for what he pulled tonight, we basically had the game tied. But even though we aren't playing good we still have the lead in the division and I dont see the Braves coming up. The Phillies are a problem and it will be a fight to the end but when it is all said and done I believe that we will take the division, we just need to get a damn heart. From what I see watching these guys is a bunch of girls, they dont want it and Willie needs to change that attitude. But I still have us going to the playoffs.

exactly want i am saying. they have the most talent than any team in the national league but you know what is holding them back? no heart. you don't see any hunger in their eyes. they seem like they are going through the motions. phillies to me are an average squad. but they keep beating the mets because they have the heart. when they play the mets, you can see in their eyes that they want to beat us and there isn't a damn thing we can do about it. that is why i am sick of rooting for these teams and they do sh%t! and cook i hope you are right and i would be the first to apologize in november but we might not make the frigging playoffs let alone worry about the world series. i can't see us winning until we play the reds next week and we end up in second or third place next week. and randolph with no urgency and no sense of accountability. i am starting to get sick of him too.

mets are the best team in the NL. they have the best lineup. their glaring weakness is the bullpen but what are you gonna do?
philly + atlanta are not good enough to make major runs to overtake the division. pedro is right around the corner. i can see why mets fans are worried but losing the division would be basically a major collapse and that's not gonna happen.
mets fans were spoiled by the tremendous season last year but not having pedro an entire year probably cost them a minimum of 5-6 wins. now, pedro may never be as good as he was but he's still better than brian lawrence.
The mets bullpen is definately a mess and the reason the division is so close. Burgos getting hurt again, and Smith resting his arm does not help anything.
I think that we really underestimate the talent of the philles, they are in a better hitters park without question but who on the mets blows you off the page when you compare them to the philles

Reyes has not been as impressive as everyone makes him out to be, i love the guy he is awesome and has a ton of stolen bases and really messes with the pitchers heads. I am sure if you changed all the guys and but them in the opposing park that the numbers would skew in the mets favor but right now, lets not act like the philles aren't as talented as the mets

phillies don't have the pitching to hang.
but in the mets case, maine looks like he's getting tired (maybe they need to implement a maine's rules) and how much longer can el duque keep this up (and he's the REAL mvp of the team, reyes 2nd)? but getting pedro is a shot in the arm they need.
perhaps but numbers are numbers right now and thats where they stand. so the philles right now are a better offesive team plain and simple.
Mets have desperately missed Duaner Sanchez.
Pedro, Pelfrey and quite possibly Phil Humber will be "manning-up" as the replacement pitchers.

The Mets almost had this division in a stranglehold--their bullpen and timely slumps ahve put them right back into a dogfight. The bottom line is they have to find a line up that is a tad more explosive and the bullpen has to step up. The starting pitching has been good all year and now Pedro will take Lawrence\'s place--giving us 5 quality starters. We have a good bench--I think I would go with Chavez in right the rest of the way and split time at first and second base conine/delgado gotay/castillo. No player has been that hot--so I think splitting the minutes and earning the time[unless someone starts to hit .350+] we need to move things around a bit--find something that has more of a groove and do it QUICKLY.
Briggs - a tad more explosive? You can only shuffle the batting order. 1-5 is good enough.
Carefully monitor #7 for fatigue. Delgato needs to shake off the cobwebs and get his groove back. The challenge is to fill 6-7-8 with productive hitters.

how does a player hit .350 if he's in and out of the lineup everyday?
you play castillo at 2nd every day - end of discussion.
the position of flux is right field - that's where decisions must be made.
you have to play delgado b/c you have no other first baseman.

the Mets outfield rotation of Chavez and Alou in left, and Green and Milledge in right will be fun to watch.

with all this talk of joba rules...you now see the effects on young pitchers asking them to pitch entire season with john maine.
this is the most innings he has pitched in his career and you're seeing the effects. that's why pitch counts are so important for the longetivity of a young pitcher.
but he held the fort down as good as can be expected until pedro gets back. the ball is now in pedro's court to pick it up.
but in the NL playoffs, pedro + el duque + glavine >>> than any other rotation another team in the NL can put out there. and the bullpen gets fortified as perez + maine move there for the postseason.
NL is the mets to lose...but it all depends on who gets hot in october.

Castillo is the better defender, but Gotay is a much better hitter vs. righties. And Conine, yes a first baseman, was picked up to platoon with Delgado.

but you play castillo. he's a .300 hitter and has played in pressure games and is a good fielder. considering the relationship a SS/2B must have, you keep castillo out there with reyes. i don't understand why this is even a discussion. gotay only got time b/c valentin was hurt all season. he's a bonus.
conine is a pinch hitter.
gotay is a nice young player but in the heat of a pennant race, where the mets are asked to win right now, he has no place in the every day lineup.

if you have to sit delgado and play conine, then the mets are in some serious trouble.
play delgado everyday - he had wrist surgery so he has to work himself back. he's having a tough year but the slightest THREAT of him hitting a homer >>>> .240 conine.
