nice job of packing it in this season after week 13... what a pitiful end to the season capped off by a pitiful loss to the Eagles...

Eli was horrible, Corey Webster was horrible, Antonio Pierce was horrible, Kevin Gilbride's playcalling was horrible, Steve Spagnuolo's playcalling was horrible, Tom Couglin's challenge of the spot was horrible.

this team completely lost their fire long before the playoffs even began... friggin' A, i'm so pissed at how this team has let us down this week.

The two Giants that bother the Eagles the most aren't playing. One is on the sideline with season ending injury and the other is suspended awaiting his courtcase. LOL, at the people who actually thought that losing Plax wasn't a big deal and that Pierce was more important to the Giants. Everyone else in the NFL knows the truth.
Knicksfan @ 1/11/2009 4:13 PM
OMG

HORRIBLE

WOW WHAT A FREAKING CHOKING JOB! LAST 4 MINUTES, YOU HAVE THE BALL, TAKE CARE OF IT AND GET YOURSELF A LAST CHANCE.

BUT NO, LETS TURN THE BALL OVER AND COMPLETE THE CHOKING JOB.

AMAZING

Thats what I hate about football, a strong season for nothing, NOTHING.

I was afraid of this considering how sloppy the Giants were in the last games and the upsets, but hoped they would deliver.

Booooooo

FUGGIN' CLASSLESS PIECE OF SHOWBOATIN' SCUM! I want someone to break Donovan's kneecaps after that little stunt he pulled on our sideline... FUKK YOU DONOVAN YOU OVERRATED PIECE OF CRAP!
Knicksfan @ 1/11/2009 4:14 PM
Next year I don't care if they start the season 0-4, just get hot at the end and make the playoffs. It seems that is the only way a team wins a SB this days.

Tell that to the Giants, that let him celebrate with such a pathetic game.

oh yeah, i forgot about John Carney w/his 2 missed FG's... PATHETIC!!!

This was an absolutely horrendous collapse by the Giants. No other way to describe it.

They couldn't afford to lose Plax. That became obvious when the passing game became virtually non-existant at the end of the year.

The good news is they get one of the top 5 passrushers in the NFL back next year. Now will they be able to acquire a new no.1 reciever?

I wouldn't throw any roses at the Giants defensive line either. How many times did they get to McNabb only to allow him to get a throw off still. Good linemen but lack technique that you get with an Osi or Strahan.
Knicksfan @ 1/11/2009 4:23 PM
It was nice to win the SB last year and I enjoyed the Giants being a strong contender this season, but it seems that everytime you win big in the regular season and are considered one of the strongest teams, you only become another one and out.

So much for being a contender. The lower seeds are always more hungry and come up big in the postseason. Its their playground. The Giants were corpses out there and the Eagles just made sure they remained dead.

RIP Giants

i'm not gonna get on the D Line's case, they did an excellent job stopping the run all game long... i blame Spags more than anything... he stopped being aggressive & sending his safeties on the blitz, & McFag was able to stand back there all day facing a 4 or 5 man rush & pick them apart on underneath routes... Corey Webster was leaving guys open all game long... he might have developed into a very good DB but he left his game at home today.

this team absolutely was set up to repeat this year... they just needed to show up today & play their game, & they laid a huge egg... i really think if they had won this game, they were gonna go all the way... such a huge disappointment... so close & yet so far.
TMS @ 1/11/2009 4:30 PM
GOD DAMN! I HATE THOSE FUGGIN' PHILLY BIRDS & DONOVAN MCNABB! ARRRGGGHHH!!!

GO CARDINALS! please, i don't wanna see Philly playing in the SB this year.

Giants line actually got quite a bit of pressure on McNabb today. No sacks but that safety they forced was just as good. And the forced a lot of bad throws. Question was why Spagnuolo played it soft at the end of the half and then why he didn't blitz on that third and 10 on the Eagles first scoring drive of the third. This certainly wasn't a "technique" issue, whatever that means.

This was a loss that layed squarely on the shoulders of some dreadful offensive play from the QB and his recievers and some headscratching playcalling at times. And then when they needed short yardage they didn't outphysical the Eagles, plain and simple.

Corey Webster didn't have his best game, but he wasn't leaving guys open all day. He also made a huge play in run support and had some big coverages.

They would've have won with this defensive effort if they could've managed a touchdown somewhere today. You spot the other team 7 points and then can't score in the redzone. They went down to Eagles territory 4 straight times and came away with 6 points. Thats pathetic
VDesai @ 1/11/2009 5:05 PM
Anyway at some point you lose too many superstars.
If you were told that Strahan was gonna retire and the Giants would lose Umenyiora and Burress for the year, a lot of people would say that the team might not even make the playoffs, much less be the no.1 seed.

Giants get the best addition of the offseason next year in Osi and hopefully will make a move for a no.1 WR.

Pierce will also need to be replaced. He is slower than molasses at this point and is a dirty player that draws far too many flags.
TMS @ 1/11/2009 5:09 PM
dude, Webster made 1 good coverage play all game & it could have easily been called for defensive pass interference... i give him props for the 1 big tackle he made on Westbrook but bro, he was getting beat on the underneath routes a ton on some big 3rd & long plays that kept their drives alive when we really needed a stop... i don't understand why Spags went away from blitzing Thomas & Johnson, we were having success w/that early in the game... it's like they got chicken shit all of a sudden & started playing that ridiculous prevent style defense, playing 15 yards off their men so they wouldn't get beat deep, meanwhile leaving all the underneath routes wide open.

we coulda scored plenty of times, we shoulda had at least 6 more points on those missed FG's & the fact we couldn't even score 1 TD when they had great field position all game long is pathetic.

it's too late in the season to fall back on the loss of star players argument, other than losing Plax, who's absence has been totally felt immediately... this team was able to dominate the NFL w/o Osi & Strahan all year, & i still feel they proved this season that they're a better team than the Eagles... they just didn't execute & the Eagles did.

as for Pierce, i'm beginning to agree w/u that he's way too slow to be the central figure of our D right now, but who u gonna replace him with w/o having a huge fall off next season? Chase Blackburn is not as good as Pierce at reading the defenses & he's not all that quick himself either... & i think it's tough to rely on some rookie we draft to come in & take over Pierce's role in this defense.
VDesai @ 1/11/2009 5:21 PM
Did they dominate without Plax this year? They didn't. Its not excuse, its just a fact. They didn't have a superbowl roster without Plax and once the injuries started to add up on the D-line, they didn't quite have the dominant pressure D they had earlier in the year either b/c they didn't have the same depth.

They should try and acquire Karlos Dansby for the other outside spot and hope some young guys step up. He's not a long term answer, but Danny Clark came up as a middle LB and was really terrific this year.

As far as Webster, he wasn't the only one getting beat underneath and he really didn't do anything egregious. The one deep play where the reciever got open, the safety was supposed to have over the top coverage and he bit inside. I think he was alright. Negative plays from him were definitely not a major factor in the loss IMO.

Giants recievers really are bad. Where was Amani Toomer at all down the stretch of the year. He basically got open once today, after the game was practically over and didn't get open much at all the end of the year. I think we need to let him walk regardless of the situation next year. His time is up.
VDesai @ 1/11/2009 5:23 PM
BTW, one completely underrated way in which we missed Plax today-

Re-watch the short yardage run by Ward off the direct snap. If Hixon makes a bit of a block there we get the first down definitely. Instead he crumbles. That is where Plax was such a lion...he was a huge run blocker and would've certainly made the play there.
