I hear Rolle would take a physical for us... seems as though Miami is the other suitor, but they are offering less.

If we can get him and Dansby, and just pillage the Cardinals defense, the defense will be much better than last season's garbage. Hopefully there's a defensive leader somewhere in the lockerroom

they have no 1st round pick & they're desperate for a pass rusher... they'll probably give him an offer he can't refuse... ESPN reported that he's flying out to Chicago to finalize the details

Dansby signed with Miami.

I guess we're going to be cautious after blowing our load on crap in free agency last year.

Just saw the Giants and Rolle agreed to a five year deal. Nice first step.

That really was a God awful UFA class. I'd be willing to see if Boley and Canty can work out, but I say admit defeat and cut everyone else and cut those guys next offseason if they can't bring much to the table

SupremeCommander @ 3/6/2010 3:07 AM
I don't think the Giants need Boldin now, but he was just traded to the Ravens for a 3rd and a 4th
SupremeCommander @ 3/6/2010 3:51 AM
Gibril Wilson was released by the Dolphins... he couldn't cover tight ends last season but I wouldn't mind bringing him back for some depth. I know the RAiders cut him the season before but he had crazy numbers

I don't know, I think we could bring him back on the cheap

I thought he was a Safety?

yeah Antrel Rolle a FS

Samari Rolle is a CB

Yeah I was typing to fast- he is a safety. He came into the league as a corner but converted a couple years ago. This is was a huge signing for us. Kenny Phillips is apparently ahead of schedule on his recovery. We are gonna have a nice rangy safety duo and if our top 3 corners can also get healthy, a pretty top flight group of cover guys. This was a huge signing by the Giants at arguably their position of greatest need.

Would've loved to get Dansby too, but I think the Giants philosophy on LBs is a little different and they also seem to have confidence in Boley and Sinitim on the outside. But we need to get some more steady tacklers in the Linebacking crew for sure...

Dont really need him now with Rolle in the fold...only if Kenny Phillips has a setback somewhere. Michael Johnson should do a lot better at 3rd safety where he can be more agressive.

Rolle is a nice signing but we still need a MLB to replace Pierce.

Still early- safety was just as huge a whole if not bigger and I'm glad they struck there first. I think they may turn their attention soon to Kirk Morrison.

jazz74 @ 3/8/2010 7:18 AM
yeah, great signing. however, they seem to not be concerned about their mlb because i havent heard them trying to get one. is it because they thought goff is the answer? who knows.

probably because of (1) perceived depth and (2) the draft as talent should be available at 15

They definitely are interested in Kirk Morrison. I don't believe the Raiders would match a contract offer, but the issue is that he would require the Giants to give up a 3rd rounder as compensation since he's an RFA. I'd pull the trigger on it personally- Morrison is a tackling machine- he gets more than 110 tackles every year. I think he'd be a steadying presence in between Boley, who's athletic and makes plays, but can be inconsistent, and Sintim, who is still gonna face a learning curve.

VDesai @ 3/8/2010 2:58 PM
David Carr signed with the Niners and Fred Robbins signed with the Rams
Allanfan20 @ 3/9/2010 10:20 PM
Hey, I know it's a Jets issue, but does anyone know the Leon Washington scenario?
VDesai @ 3/10/2010 9:50 PM
Peyton's old backup Jim Sorgi is our new backup QB
SupremeCommander @ 3/15/2010 4:31 AM
I'm unsure if this team is starphucking or not, but after last offseason and this one, it seems like the team is starting to flirt with that strategy
VDesai @ 3/15/2010 9:32 AM
Starphucking would be the Jets signing LaDanian Tomlinson. So far we've made 2 moves, one very modest, and the other was for a young player at a key position of need.

Jets, Giants to open new stadium

By BARRY WILNER (AP) – 3 hours ago

NEW YORK — Both the Giants and Jets wanted to open next season in the new Meadowlands Stadium. Both will.

The NFL said Monday the Giants will play on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 12, and the Jets will host a Monday night game the next day.

Opponents have not been announced; the full league schedule usually is released in early April.

"After extensive discussions with both teams, we have come up with what we believe is a unique approach for celebrating the opening of the new Meadowlands Stadium," commissioner Roger Goodell said.

The issue became somewhat contentious when the Jets announced on their Web site that a coin toss conducted by the league would determine which team opens the $1.7 billion stadium. The teams split the cost on the replacement for Giants Stadium, which they both called home since 1984.

But the league never confirmed such a decision until Monday, when it said Goodell did flip a coin for which team would play Sunday.

The Giants won, and the Jets are not happy with the process.

"An NFL coin toss has a few fundamental elements that are missing here, most notably the presence of the teams involved," Jets owner Woody Johnson said in a statement. "That's how it's always done in the league, whether it's determining the order of the draft or deciding who's going to kick off the game.

"When the issue of which team would be hosting the first regular-season game could not be resolved on the merits, I suggested a coin toss as the fairest way to resolve this issue. The league rejected that idea. Then, I was told on Friday that a coin toss had taken place at the league office and that the Jets had lost. We rejected a process in which neither team was present. The league departed from our time-honored tradition and declined the opportunity to set the matter straight with a transparent process."

The Giants had no complaints.

"We look forward to playing the first regular-season game ever in the new stadium," Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said. "We have a great new home, and it's right next door to Giants Stadium, a building that housed our three Super Bowl championship teams. We look forward to building the same legacy for our new stadium, and it starts on Sept. 12."

Goodell said the teams' ownership were passionate about being the first to play at home. He concluded that the fairest resolution would be to play both teams at home on the opening weekend and to use the coin flip.

The Jets will host the first NFL game at the new stadium during the preseason in August.

Only once have the Giants and Jets opened a regular season on the same weekend at Giants Stadium. In 1991, the Jets played Tampa Bay on Sunday, Sept. 1, and the Giants hosted the 49ers on Monday night, Sept. 2.
