If this pans ou we will have a hell of a d-line and a stacked secondary. If we can fill in the gaps in free agency/rest of the draft we will be awfully hard to beat.

no doubt... with prince, terrell thomas, webster and ross in the secondary, every single one of those guys can play on an island which gives our d-line a ton of time to get to the QB. great job by reese here.

I'll definitely give Reese for not getting cute and overthinking this one. Good pick. I am more curious to see how the rest of the draft plays out. Short of his first round picks the past two drafts, he's been terrible.

Jints picks a big body in 6'2" 309lbs Marvin Austin DT from North Carolina. WOW!!! Big Blue got some blue chip picks in the first 2 rounds.

Yeah, hopefully Nicks won't haze big boy too much coming in. I'm excited about the potential of all the players drafted so far. I always liked Austin and I think he will be steal. I don't know much about this Brewer kid form Indiana, but he does look like a beast and I trust Jerry Reese's judgement when it comes to talent.

thought this was a good recap/amalysis, form a non NY paper:

New York Giants 2011 NFL Draft Review
.By Scott Garbarini, Sports Network
The Sports Network
1 - Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska (6-0, 206); 2 - Marvin Austin, DT, North Carolina (6-2, 309); 3 - Jerrel Jernigan, WR, Troy (5-9, 185); 4 - James Brewer, OT, Indiana (6-6, 323); 6 - Greg Jones, ILB, Michigan State (6-0, 242); 6 - Tyler Sash, S, Iowa (6-0, 211); 6 - Jacquian Williams, OLB, South Florida (6-3, 231); 7 - Da'Rel Scott, RB, Maryland (5-11, 211)

Top Pick Analysis: The Giants received an unexpected reward when Amukamara, considered a top 10 player in many circles, fell to them with the 19th overall pick. The Nigerian descendant is solid in all phases and at worst will be an immediate contributor as a nickel back at worst. Austin brings a similar level of talent but far more risk, as his collegiate production rarely matched his exceptional skill set and he was suspended for his entire senior season at North Carolina for interaction with an agent. Jernigan's small size may limit him to the slot as a pro, but he possesses above-average hands and speed and is extremely elusive after the catch, making him an asset in the return game as well. His addition suggests the Giants are concerned about the long-term prognosis of Steve Smith, who underwent microfracture knee surgery in December.

Best Value Pick: Austin, if he's willing to put the work into maximizing his considerable potential. Jernigan was a nice get in the third round, while Jones was a highly productive player in the Big 10 whose instincts compensate for his short stature and questionable strength.

We Question Why: GM Jerry Reese didn't do more to repair an offensive line that's aging and was ravaged by injuries last year, especially in the middle. Brewer has upside but probably not ready to contribute right away.

Summary: Though they weren't able to solve their most pressing needs on the offensive line and at outside linebacker, the Giants brought in worthwhile prospects with just about every selection they made.

FINAL GRADE: B+

I like the picks but like what the article said...We did not address the OL and LB spots. Hopefully Jerry has some FA magic.

VDesai wrote:Giants are not bringing him back. Memo to Tiki- thats why you dont burn bridges. That being said, I think Tiki probably could still be one of the best backs in the league if he's back on his old training regimens (cough).

only reason he's coming out of retirement is b/c he is broke. it was reported last year that he couldnt even pay his divorce settlement. same guy who, while working at nbc (they fired him btw), hooked up w a 23 yr old intern and began divorce proceedings against his wife while she was 8 months pregnant.

i for one was happy when he got boo'ed during the ring of honor ceremony. guy is a scumbag.

he straight up is a piece of shit. didn't realize he was broke. that makes sense. on Houston talk radio the host hypothesized that because the timing was weird, and the TV personality thing didn't work out the way Tiki believed (best. host. EVER.), he did t to grab headlines. but your explanation has to be right

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/giants/ba...
And now we're supposed to feel sorry for Tiki because he was depressed and unmotivated?

I'm hoping the twinkie-doinking douchebag blows his knee out on the first play of training camp.

Get yourself a "Play Proud" tattoo, while you write books about integrity and hose your own wife and kids. Yeah, dumping your pregnant wife sure shows how much of a better man and father you are.

Glad he goes and visits his mom. Probably his little dogs love him too.

He's probably one of the few things that make me sad to be a Giant fan. Glad he'll end his career somewhere else, though.

jusnice @ 5/26/2011 12:34 PM
Apparently Tiki recently compared himself to Anne Frank because he and his girlfriend are living in the attic of his agent, who happens to be Jewish. God, this guy is a real asshole.

Just read that the Giants may go after Paul Posluzny (sp?). Would love that move for our defense. Anyone heard of other moves to help our team? Can't wait for football!

O'Hara and Seubert will be cut... Andrews doesn't seem willing to restructure... really stoked we drafter OL!
jusnice @ 7/27/2011 1:56 PM
I'm not up to speed with the new CBA, but it seems like the Gmen are being forced to cut players in order to create cap space. I am surprised by their cuts, especially on the o-line. Not sure how our bench is. Looks like Bradshaw may sign elsewhere as well. Don't think Jacobs can be an every day back, so that's interesting. On a positive note, I'd like to see Plaxico back in Blue and that has some hope of happening now. Whatever you think of him, he and Eli had great chemistry and he's tall enough to catch all those over thrown balls. I'm not super excited about the Giants at this point. Is anyone?
jusnice @ 7/27/2011 1:58 PM
And I just read the Coughlin was extended through 2012. That completely contradicts an ESPN report that he was on the hot seat. This team better make the playoffs, but it will be tough vs. the likes of the Eagles and Cowboys.

I'm not... I don't see how the Giants can take the Eagles for the division this year and I don't think they're good enough to win a wild card. The team is completely mediocre, lacks top end talent, depth, and a linebacking core. Barry Cofield apparently signed with the Redskins (but at least we have Rocky Bernard he's apparently getting cut because he wouldn't rework his deal). Umenyiora will probably hold out. Bradshaw is gone is Jacobs doesn't restructure. This season has 7-9 or 8-8 written all over it

i heard that the giants are meeting with Plax on Friday. Would be good to get that guy back on the team. Certainly would give Eli another big target to throw at.

That will be nice, as his flag route opened up the run quite well--HOWEVER--I thought one of the big problems was that the team became a quick strike offense as opposed to pound the ball and dominate time of possession

We might have no choice to get Plax, especially if the Cowsluts get Nnamdi Asamghua.
