Seems that if you want acquire power in any arena, then you have to become some kind of weirdo in private.
I ain't condoning the behavior, but I've never been one to take the slippery slope for any politician, regardless of party, when it comes to this kind of stuff.
Spitzer ethics campaign was about addressing wealth issues, not sex.
When Republicans come out saying that being gay is a sin, and then engage in secret gay acts, that's not the same thing as this because Spitzer didn't take a public stance on prostitution to get elected, as far as I know. The reality is many preach against things they are involved in or benefit from, which does not necessarily make politicians any different than the rest of us humans.
Regardless, I'm suspecting he's a dead man walking at this point. Great, just what the state needs, an opportunity for another Republican to reign for 12 years.
Basically, imho, this doesn't necessarily mean he can't take a stand on ethics on other areas. A lot of people cheat on their partners, and solicit prostitutes, which I am not condoning, but also does not mean "good" people can't do or haven't done "bad" things.
To me it matters what area the bad things are. Of course, in America this is the end of the universe for any politician. In France, it's no big whoop. Kennedy, Eisenhower, Clinton and God knows how many other presidents have cheated on their partners (or their partners on them). I can't believe we have to go through this again...ughh
Now we see, since one politcian is dancing with hookers , they all are.

If it was a minister, you would say they all are fake and never go inside a church again , even at someone's wedding.

Naw, that was Sheldon Silver, as he had veto power on the Public Authorities Control Board.
