Alexander is definitely the better athlete, but I think that Gallinari is the better basketball player. One of the best athletes the Knicks have every had was Kenny 'Sky' Walker. He raced against a horse and won. But he he had no shot and for all his speed didn't have a good move to the basket. He tried hard and played good defense, but was considered a bust by most fans because he was picked in the lottery and wasn't very productive.
Alexander and Gallo make a good comparison because both play with a lot of heart. Alexander is the better athlete, while Gallo has more skill. We'll see which is the better player. I think it will be Gallinari.
Am I the only person that heard Jay Bilas and others talking about how he was @ a workout, tapping his head on the rim for fun to show off his leaping ability.

So he is Chinese, then? Just like Yao and Yi.
Nalod@ 6/30/2008 1:53 PM
People let's just keep it real. NY Fans want a white fundamentally sound player to excel in NY in the worst way.
Lets be real......
NY fans just want a fundamentally sound player to excel in NY in the worst way!!!!!!
Us white folks root for all the black players on the team to do well, why can't you root for the white guys instead of focusing on whether we give too much props to our great honkey hopes?

I been rooting for you all my life.

he was born in Taiwan, Yao & Yi are Chinese... 2 different countries.
i think Alexander is white but his father has worked overseas doing business so he grew up in the Far East & can speak Mandarin.

i dunno for sure what Alexander's heritage is, just going off what was said about him on draft night... but i do know he was born in Taiwan, not in China.

Alexander would've been a nice choice, but at this point I think Gallo is a pick with qualities that are best suited for what we need. The Euro style of play, but with a tough in your face, looking for the contact type of player. Gallo has a very unique combination of skills and size. both players are work in progress, so it's impossible to tell who will have the best chance of living up to their potential. I do think Gallo has been able to demonstrate already that he's closer to being able to live up to that promise.
I mean the guy played with men and at only 19 was a team leader and go to guy. That tells me a lot. Unlike Bargnani he's actually shown what he can do in crunchtime and with extended minutes. I doubt that Alexander has the same level of BB IQ so far, tho I could be wrong. From what i've read he's still somewhat of a project. Gallo has been groomed for this from early on.

We can argue Gallo vs Alexander until we're blue in the face. It's an interesting argument because it's skill player vs athlete. We'll have to let the two of them settle it on the basketball court over the next few seasons.

The only guys from Euro league who started at 16 yrs of age that has excelled in the NBA has been Calderon and Parker and both of them have the ball in their hands running the show.
"THE GALL" isn't a pg so his transition will be up against much more stronger physically men in the NBA than the skinny non athletic euro'opponents.
I want to see "the gall" finish with any hand agaisnt the better athletic shotblocking players in the NBA , when he himself has no major vertical even as a 19 yr old. The NBA game I believe is harder for a Euro frontcourt player than from the PG position.

how about you speak for yourself? I want players that want to succeed in NY no matter the color, except for Balkman, who is already white.
Balkman is white, where is Bip when ya need him.
I'm right here agreeing with everyone
