the 603k+ group represents top ~1.1% of taxpayers.
The breakout I would like to like see is what the change in total tax revenues these changes represent for each pay scale sector. And then a nice total at the bottom. McCain is lowering taxes across the board... how the fuck are we supposed to be LOWERING the tax revenues while keeping up with Iraq, Afghanistan, oil prices, Baby boomers who are going to hit social security and the health care system like a 21-year-old hits the ATM just before Friday night Happy Hour, etc.
What I would do is put a special one-time assessment on individuals with net worth's over 10mm$. This would be the area I would hit *super wealth*. There is just way to much money that has shifted to the super wealthy and it has caused an imbalance and the way to correct is by special assemssment. If an individual's net worth is 46mm he will have to pay a special assessment of 4.6MM to a fund that directly pays to the national debt. Does it effect this person's lifestyle? NO
Do the numbers--a special 10% assessment on individuals with 10mm in more in net worth would wipe out the national debt. Unfortunately it's these people who run everything.
BRIGGS you can figure out the debt without simply taking money from "super rich" people. that is a ludicrous proposal, this is the united states the government cannot just take money from people because they (the govt) screwed up. its not the "super richs" fault that bush decided to invade iraq while cutting taxes.
also, dj, you're numbers either switched obama/mccain or are wrong, obama is increasing taxes on ppl who make more than 225K/yr, how are they going to be saving 6 figures?

the (-) stands for a decrease in taxes (savings), the (+) stand for increase in taxes...

Bigsmooth--the shift in wealth from the super rich compared to any other bracket is so imbalanced that it by itself can be causing economic problems. There are multiple reasons why we went into a downfall-the war in iraq us just one. Just think of a boat with 30 people on one side and 1 on the other. the boat becomes unstable and tips to one side. To few people control way to much wealth and it is unhealthy. If we were able to retire a great deal of this debt and move to a fiscally responsible plan for the long term where we put mandatory checks and balances into the economy--even those who were liable for an assessment would benefit from the likely change in the status of the value of the dollar.

This is not a country club assessment, its government!
It might be the right thing to do on paper, but the execution of that plan would be hard to impliment.
