I'm gonna do a flip flop and agree with Briggs. However, I think not picking Hillary was one of MANY mistakes Obama is making and I don't think it's worth obsessing over this one. His biggest mistake is that he's being a softie. He didn't learn anything from Kerry and Gore.
Could you imagine if, throughout history, mankind shared Briggs' defeatist outlooks and narrow-minded thought processes? We never would have made it out of the dark ages. Its over? A little blood on your mouth and its over? Your opinions are on point, often, but your obsession with being right veers you off into the mentally-unstable realm.
Bonn, the theory for a long time was that Barack had to position himself as a new politician and not get negative, the main reason for that was as a Black man he had to assuage the feelings of whites. With Blacks they are angry, intimidating, and mean (see Michelle Obama). With whites, they are simply passionate (see Republicans).
We have a energized base and a more forceful army of surrogates who realize the stakes, but that simply wont suffice. Palin is a good pick, even great, but for all the wrong reasons. Team Obama needs to start swinging and expose this mockery of a pick who shouldnt be within breathing distance of the presidency. It wouldnt be negativity ; It would be the truth.

This isnt directed at you holfresh, but what people cant lose sight of is that this will be decided by the electoral college system. Up until Palin, Obama was up big based on the electoral math, but now its clearly a dog fight.
Team Obama needs to get out of the "prevent defense" mode and start going aggressive. Make it clear just exactly who McCain and Palin are, and what exactly is at stake. More wars, history of ethical lapses (Palin), Incompetence, Economic policies that favor the Big Oil and the extreme wealth, attack on Roe v. Wade, ext. All done in clear and concise language. No tip-toeing.
After the hysteria and the "bounce" die down the Obama just needs to nut up. Obama is not up against honorable opponents. Peel away the transparent superficiality of Palin/McCain and this just another oppressive regime in waiting. Obama has to make this clear. This is not "over" by a long shot.

Nut up. I like that.
Democrats need to fight this battle on two fronts:
Obama and Biden need to hammer at the issues talk about McCain/Palin's complete lack of comprehension on the economy, talk about the needless cost of human lives and of course our country's resources in Iraq and Afghanistan, talk about the millions of Americans without health care and their agenda to address it, talk about our failing educational systems and their plans, talk about how they will bring about alternative energy initiatives etc.
On the other front the Democrats the people on the ground need to take the gloves off. McCain is weak but Palin is weaker and I think there is skeletons in her closet dig and dig deeper. Push so that she'll have to address some of these issues about troopgate, her personal beliefs, her anti-science, anti-gays, anti-environment, and her family situation (yes I go there). If she falls so does McCain's campaign because if he has to look for a new running mate come October it will be over for him.
Democrats need to stop playing it safe and go into complete attack mode while still talking about the issues. You have some Americans who will respond on a cerebral level and that respond to someone taping into their baser instincts.
The ever present race issue Obama can't be just slightly better then McCain, he can't just be even to McCain he has to completely blow him out of the water. If it's close he won't win and unless the Obama campaign starts taking of the gloves and really go after the opponents there just will not be enough support to win.

Palin will have to be exposed for the novelty that she is. Democrats have to go all out on the attack and almost be "Mike Tyson bites the ear." LOL. Seriously they have to attack atack attack. Unemployment,Iraq, the economy have to be hammered home repeatedly.
Well...First of all dont get caught up in Briggs' maniac episodes and convention bounce polls. The electoral college still favors Barack and the pure toss up states in play are still good bets for him. He is in the stronger position. But what the Dems have to vigilant about is not coming across as wimps. Let the facts speak for themselves. Hell, just let the facts speak and dont be so shy to bite back.
The Dems cant panic and overplay their hand which would make them look desperate, but they also cannot resemble Dukkakis, Kerry, and Gore and get punked either. Its going to be a tough balancing act. We've suffered through 8 years of misery. Are Americans willing to live through more just so they can bring in a cultural nut-job who happens to look like them?
Barack is already talking about the Bridge to Nowhere, so hopefully history wont repeat itself
Millions of women relate with this woman. They see Sarah within themselves--MILLIONS of them. Hundreds of thousands of male swing voters are attracted to her. People are blinded by her--is she VP material---NO no F way but that DOES NOT MATTER. Need to strategically pick at her
but be careful doing so and with 50+ days to go it wont be easy.
what will you guys do if the election is cancelled?
the daily show, the episode from September 5th I think, had a really good McCain bit
they started showing things from the republican party saying "change", said makes you think of Obama? Nope
then started showing bits of GW's speech while running for president the first time and comparing it to McCain's acceptance speech, eerily similar
they had another good bit earlier, where they asked about Palin's asking the media to respect their decision with regards to their daughter's pregnancy and asked republican congress goers for another worth for this, basically saying respect another one's choice but if she had her way she'd take away other families choice> pro-choice
Its not time for the dems to panic. We got 7 weeks to go.
Debates will be telling. They ShOULD sort it all out.
McCain should pale against Obama. Biden is a great speaker and should do well.
Obama needs to get this muslim thing done. Its not whether its fact or not, it needs to go away.
Its not the the truths Dems have to deal with, its the perceptions.
What many have to realize is red states don't vote whom they like, they vote to christian values first and foremost. Second is many voters are afraid of the black man, and the black man with a muslim name.
Im not saying thats the truth, but the perception. And that is a problem.
It is logical that Obama and Biden are the better ticket, but elections are emotional!
Im wondering if Hillary was even willing to accept the VP? She would wipe Palin away in 5min. Biden should also.
Palin as president is one scarey thought.
I think it's the same with Obama and Palin, people are curious they are fresh and new, they speak well they are good looking, educated people, but the slant in this country is absurd. Everyone can bitch and moan about Fox News, doing so is disgraceful, the attack job on this women may very well lose the democrats the election, US Weekly, Rolling Stone, People, everyone is jumping all over her when she has the same amount of experience if not more than Obama.
Everyone is up in arms because she did the same thing Obama has done his entire campaign, give a great speech of a teleprompter. And frankly the Republicans did what they needed to do exposed Obamas record and tried to get the word out because the media, hasn't done it and they won't due it. Has Palin done anything mind blowing or earth shattering, no niether of them have, although winning the democratic nomination is quite an accomplishment, and for that Obama deserves respect and credit.
But before we give the election to anyone, why not just wait for the debates and actually listen to where they see the country going when aren't scripted.

The bottom line is the time has come for a woman to be in office and they are going to make it happen.

Usually the entire poll is based on about 1000 people. So when they start breaking it down by two demographic groups (race and gender), you're talking about a tiny, unreliable sample.
It's quite shocking to me to see, after the last eight years of Bush/Republican policy, after a poorly managed war in Iraq and Afghanistan, after Katrina, after record deficits, after the foreclosure and housing crisis, after the Valarie Plain outing, Chaney shooting a fellow hunter, Rumsfeld mismanagement of Iraq, the so call "Surge" is actually the US putting hundreds of thousands of Iraqi insurgence and Al Queda members on US payroll..That's right my friends, your tax dollars going to former al queda members via your government as your President preach the line "we will hunt them down"and General Patraes is lauded as a military genius, after the US dollar has reached a low point in the history of this planet, after the price of a barrel of oil has increased 7 fold since this President took office, after Iran and Venezuela has strengthened and enchanced globally directly because of the policies of this government, after picking a woman as VP running mate who is obviously unqualified for the position, after the US has lost it's standing as a moral leader in this world...After all this and more, how is this race still close...Amazing...

After China builds it's military off of US financed debt which is largely due to the war in Iraq to the tune of 10 bil per month...
After all this and more, how is this race is still close...Amazing...
We can also say that about GWB being elected twice (or once really.). I'm pretty sure you understand why things are going the way they are.

i agree, its not time for the dems to panic.....heard this driving home today. checkout brian lehrer at wnyc.org. is obama being swiftboated ?
i also agree, debates should tell all.
right now very little is being directed against biden... wonder if elephants are loading up for biden to deliver final blow when it counts.
obama picking biden is a no brainer....unlike hillary, in my opinion, biden actually believes in obama
biden should be able to wipe the fatty omega out of palin.... no contest
