Off Topic · Anyone know much about Chase Budinger? (page 1)

seems like the type of work ethic & team first attitude we could use more of around here... from the clips he reminds me a little of Matt Harpring... wondering if any of you seen him play much?

Yeah seen him a lot T. The Matt Harpring comparison's not bad, but he might be a little softer that Harpring. Harpring's strong and scrappy for a wing and plays physically with a real hard edge to him - Budinger's athletic but a little softer and a little more perimeter-oriented. More range than Harpring though - this kid's has legit NBA 3 pt. range.

yeah, just reading up on this kid it says he's got a 40+ vertical & has won multiple dunk contests & is an excellent perimeter shooter... his coaches seem to think he's an ideal teammate & has a great work ethic... seems like an ideal fit for D'Antoni's system.

One knock on him is that he gets winded easily.

Perfect fit for D'Antoni system. Hussles, would be great on the fast break and great instant shooter, just the kinds of things D'Antoni wants from our guys. And the great jumping ability would get us a lot more rebounds as a team. Wonder how his D is?
BUT! If this Knicks team does very well this year, then the chances of getting him or anyone else of real value will be doomed once again.
Unfortunately , we are one of the worst draft teams in the NBA (at least one of the worst bad timing ones), but we are also one of the highest paid teams, which is another big advantage, if the brass can keep the money straight. And that's what Walsh aims to do.
So draft what we can get, with no big expectations and sign high quality free agents when the money is good again. On the other hand, if' Walsh can make a few deals somewhere, were it involves getting a couple of draft picks and if they can work out well for positioning, then we'll have a chance. That's the only way I can see it happening.

Yup. Good call. He'd play well for D'Antoni in a wide open system. Best case scenario for me: we develop Chandler, Nate, Lee and Gallo but win no more than 30 games. We get a top five pick and get one of the top guys in the draft. But say we manage to put up more wins, Chase Budinger would be a good option for us, along with Hasheem Thabeet, mid lottery - middle of the first round depending on what kind of a season he has this year.

Chase was projected to make first round pick around the mid range. That's with him being a freshmen. If he develops further, then he's probably out of our reach. And I cannot see us for the life of me getting a 5th pick.

How bout this one. He kind of looks like 'Dirk'?
4949@ 10/12/2008 6:08 PM
How in the heck did my post end up behind your post??? I was responding to yours Finestrg.
4949@ 10/12/2008 6:09 PM
This is weird. It in front now!!
Finestrg@ 10/12/2008 6:11 PM
Man, really trying to come up with a comparison here for about 10 mins. It's tough. Think a cross between Kiki Vandeweghe's stroke (only not as automatic) and ability to get to the basket with David Lee type finishing skills (some quick dunks, not all layups).
Or maybe Danilo Gallinari - not as big, but possibly a little more athletic.
4949@ 10/12/2008 6:13 PM
Now it's in front of mine again.
TMS@ 10/12/2008 6:16 PM
yeah listening to his coaches talk about him he does sound like a D Lee type player w/a sweet stroke from the 3... a guy you would love to root for cuz you know he's giving u his all... the NBA Draft Net profile says he's got a fieryness about him & loves to compete... i love to hear that type of stuff... i'm gonna try & keep a close eye on this guy this season but i like what i'm hearing so far.

Chase almost came out last year......Knicks would have to play him at shooting guard. Gallo, Lee, Wilson will all surley be here. Now if the Kid is there I'd definately pick him in the mid 1st round.......but can he play the 2?
CrushAlot@ 10/12/2008 7:06 PM
He doesn't have a bad back.
anrst@ 10/12/2008 7:17 PM
he reminds me of (fill in the blank white forward, ah la harpring)
TMS@ 10/12/2008 7:57 PM

he's listed as a 2 isn't he? move Jamal back to PG & slot Chase at the 2 w/Chandler, Lee & Zach as your starting lineup & cha-ching caca.
