Off Topic · OT: Just bought a PS3.... (page 1)

Any reccommendations on games?

Im a huge PC gamer. My kinda thing is PoP (especially 2), Crysis, NBA Live, Tomb Raider, Half Life 2 and CoD.

I know I can just rebuy and try them again, but any other stuff specifically for the PS3 I should get?
GKFv2 @ 10/26/2008 4:26 PM
Should have went with the 360 - A superior system.

But hey, I heard Metal Gear Solid 4 is good.
OasisBU @ 10/26/2008 4:27 PM
Congrats on the purchase - it is a great system, runs extremely quiet, and plays blu rays - you are going to love it.

Games I have played that I loved:
Ratchet and Clank (platformer - a little childish but fun)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (one of the best games ever made if you can stand the lengthy cut scenes)
Devil May Cry 4 (fun game, a little repetitive)
COD 4 - if you played it for the PC skip it

Upcoming:
Fallout 3
Resistance 2

Both should be out in the next 2-3 weeks

I envy you Firefly. I'm trying to get a PS3 and it is the way to go.

The Game catalog coming out for the PS3 is going to be huge, I personally want to get one to play Socom again.

But looking at the list of games you listed you should have probably gotten a 360 since 80 percent of their games are shooters.

I also had a 360 and sold it shortly after getting my PS3 - hardware wise PS3 is far superior, 360 does have more games but it depends on what you want to play.

FPS on 360 are better in my opinion and probably most sports games but they arent exactly bad on PS3.

I look at the games I got and I laugh that at the fact I have 20 and 15 of them are shooters. LOL

I Agree, I was going to post what you said pretty much, but I didn't want to offend anybody. Other then the Dash board and FPS games, I wouldn't buy a 360 for any thing else. The system crashes alot and the games have too many glitches.

Thanks for all the reccommends guys.

Oasis, I just finished DMC4 on PC. Loved it. And Im totally gonna try CoD4 again.

I hooked the PS3 up to my wireless network, and im downloading every demo they have on their online store. Playing Ninja Gaiden now, followed by Heavenly Sword, Fall of Man, Haze, Timeshift and Bioshock (which i really enjoyed on PC as well)

One thing I have noticed is there is a real relearning process between keyboard controlling and gamepad. Im feeling really lost on the gamepad, but Im sure in time it gets easier.

Out of interest, I have in my criminal past downloaded PC games off the torrent community. Can the same thing be done for PS3 games?
Silverfuel @ 10/26/2008 5:29 PM
Assassins Creed was a good game. Check it out.
Pharzeone @ 10/26/2008 5:48 PM
I have both. Right now, I'm more into my PS3. I recommend the following on the PS3. These are the ones that I liked so far on my system.

MGS4
Far Cry 2
NBA 2k9
Saints Row 2
Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway

I got to agree with Silverfuel. I never played Assassins Creed on the PS3 but on the 360, that is one of the best games I seen in awhile. I will drop my PS3 on Nov. 7th. Got to get into Gears of War 2.

Assassins Creed was a good game. Check it out.

Played Assassins Creed on PC and hated it. Maybe it never survived the crossover, but it seemed like such a clunky game. Head, Legs and all that. Enjoyed Crysis far more.

Phar, would you reccommend BiA over CoD?

Damn good question. I love COD4 on my 360 but I can't get enough of BIA on PS3. Also keep in mind World at War is coming out soon. I would recommend BIA and just wait to pick up World at War.
TheGame @ 10/26/2008 6:19 PM
I have one too but am a little too old and busy to play many games. I did however buy GTA4 and it was pretty good.

good choice.. ur gonna love the PS3... the bluray feature makes it win out over the 360 if u ask me.

here's a few reviews of some games i've played so far:

http://ultimateknicks.com/forum/topic.as...

definitely get ur hands on NBA 2K9 tho, it's the best sports game i've ever played & that includes classics like Tecmo Bowl & the original Madden NFL... i've tried the NBA Live demo on PS3 but the 2K9 is much more realistic & user intuitive... plus the background graphics of the crowd are head & shoulders above in the 2K9 version than NBA Live... IMHO the only thing NBA Live has that's better is Marv Albert's voice doing the play by play.

resistance 2
little big planet
metal gear solid 4
uncharted drake's fortune
dead space
fallout 3
call of duty world at war (once you've done the single player, there'll be a nazi-zombie mode)

quantum of solace might actually be nice
mirror's edge looks intrigueing

I actually have a 360 and a ps3, play a lot more with the 360 but that's because of my friends. Gears of war 2, woot woot.
knicksbabyyeah @ 10/27/2008 6:18 AM
as for bia, pretty much fun, dated textures but the gore is exquisite. Shabby multiplayer though but you can already find bia cheaper.

I am in the market for a new game - just d/led the Bioshock demo and I am impressed. I didn't play it when I had the 360 so maybe I will give it a chance. I am torn between Bioshock, Resistance 2, and Fallout 3.

I am also really looking forward to the new Sreet Fighter game coming out - I would argue that the PS3 controller is much better for fighters than the 360.

As far as adjusting from the PC to the console controller - I am sure it must be tough, I have been a console user my entire life and can't adjust to using the PC for games.

Has anyone seen previews for the new game from electronic arts where you are running from people trying to kill you in japan? It looks like a jackie chan movie or something like that. Interesting idea, will have to wait and see on it.
