Off Topic · OT: Which is your favorite rendition of the Star Spangled Banner ever performed at a sporting event? (page 1)
TMS@ 11/14/2008 4:06 AM
just watching last year's Super Bowl again off my DVR & gotta say, Jordin Sparks' rendition of the Star Spangled Banner gave me goosebumps.
but i think the best alltime rendition was done by Whitney Houston when the Giants won SB XXV.
i think those 2 were the best classic renditions of our National Anthem performed during any sporting event i'd ever seen, other than maybe Marvin Gaye's rendition for the '83 NBA Allstar game, but his rendition was a lot more stylized.

IMHO this is one of the best :D

Jordan Sparks sang it horribly. 1) There should be no backround music. 2) You don't display your talent when singing that song. Just sing it RIGHT. No need for vibrato or prolonging notes for longer when needed, and especially no changing of the notes.
I'm surprised with Whitney Houston. She has such a deep powerful voice, you'd think that's all she need, but she messed it up too.
The last guy was the worst singer on the face of the planet, but at least he tried and laughed at himself.
Ugh, they all sucked at it.

Not even a contest. This is the greatest one ever

Special Bip, you're able to judge Jerome the way you do, and now you judge Carl Lewis the way you do. Your mom must be proud.

ROFL... that one's a classic... i love the part when he messes up & goes "UH OH! I'll make up for it now!"

Hey TMS: Go to the off topic forum and respond to my 2k9 question
Bippity10@ 11/14/2008 9:31 AM
TMS: Your slow response to my 2k9 inquiry is troublesome to me. Please schedule a meeting with me so that we can discuss how we can make you a better poster and quicker responder. Obviously we have gotten off track somewhere.

I thought the one with the girl And Maurice Cheeks stepping in to be quite memorable.
As for nicest one, Marvin Gaye's Nike ad rocks totally.

What made that even better was if you were watching Sportscenter at the time and saw Charley Steiner's and Jack Edwards' reactions. Steiner was in tears and Edwards was hyperventilating.

Hendrix. The debate begins and ends with Jimmi....This conversation is now over

This one is my favorite one not posted. Mo Cheeks helping the little girl out
I like this one, because it's The Dead opening in San Fran, opening day. But I like to smoke pot

The Mo Cheeks one was great. Great moment from a great guy. One of the more memorable moments in my annual of "great things done by great people" books. That being said, I'm not one for sap. I prefer pure embarrassment

Whitney for sure-

One most have probably never seen or heard...
In a recent U.S. vs. Trinidad & Tobago World Cup 2010 qualifier match held in T&T, it was played on steel drums before the game...
I was amazed at how cool and original of a rendition it was.
Of course, Jimmi Hendrix version is an absolute classic...
Marvin Gaye's is pretty fresh also.

And that's exactly why you're on my short list of favorite posters

Marvin Gay and Whitney Houston's is still the best I ever saw.

For all the guys who said Jimi. I cant believe this is still a contest. But Mo Cheeks was special.
