Off Topic · My Internet Explorer Is Really Slow (page 1)

It's been really slow for about 4 or 5 days. Is there anything I can do to make it faster again? I run Norton Anti-Virus every day and always tell it to fix any problems. I've also told it to delete my browsing history, temporary internet files, and cookies but IE is still much slower than it used to be. Thanks!

First, download Firefox and stop using IE.

Second, stop using Norton, it's a waste of money.

Third, start by downloading a program called CCleaner. Google it. It is FREE and does wonders to clean your PC up.

Fourth, well, there are other steps, but I am confident that the first 3 will solve most if not all of your problems. We will go to step four if necessary.

if you are running IE, i am surprised you are not having problems other than just slow browsing.

My laptop came with IE and I didn't bother downloading Firefox. I just downloaded it and started using it though. Yeah, it's a trillion times faster than IE was working. Thanks!

Good to hear, Bonn, but if you have a chance, try to pick up CCleaner. I recommend it to all my friends. It is not a cure-all, like for more serious problems, but in my experience most problems like yours aren't very serious. Run it every once in a while and enjoy a smooth running machine.

I downloaded this because you recommended it... I hope my computer doesn't mutate and try to eat me

I hope it doesn't, SupremeCOmmander. That would be horrible for you, your computer, and a tremendous loss for this board.

Just did it; thanks! It removed 1,397 files. Firefox is going extremely fast now. It's awesome!

Wow, I really can't believe how much better this is working than IE was working earlier today.

Bonn, if you're ever thinking about getting another virus program, get the Trend Micro Internet Security. I did the research a couple of yrs. ago and according to everything I read (all the reviews etc..) this one came out on top. I got this running on two computers with no problems. Actually caught quite a few Trojan Horses for me and the spyware feature cleans out a lot of the little garbage as well. Very good program and not nearly the resource hog Norton was - I had Norton a few yrs. back and it made my computer run so slow, I had to get rid of it. Hope this helps...

do urself a favor & download a copy of ad-aware from download.com & clear up all the spam that's probably clogging your computer right now... & stop using IE, it's garbage... use Firefox like someone else suggested.

as for Anti-virus programs, don't use Norton, it sucks up way too many resources too & it costs a fortune... download a freeware like avast (http://www.avast.com/eng/download.html) or AVG antivirus (download.com)... both do a nice job of catching viruses & trojan horses & they're both free.

Well hopefully she'll stop now that I've switched to Firefox.
