I got a few:
Turnaround jumper. I'm 6'4" 200 and grew up watching Ewing... what do you expect. Any way, I'm big enough to post, but not big enough to gain separation by backing some beast down. Not saying I do it well, but just attempting the shot tends to get the guards collapse and I can hit the open man.
McHale's move. In the high post facing the basket, McHale had this move where he'd take one foot, drag it across his body, and plant it so his leg blocks his opponent's hip. Great way to get to the basket or force the open to cheat, which sets up my dribble which is at best average.
I have no idea what to call this, but if I get into a groove with a guard, he'll drive east/west, I'll curl behind him the opposite direction, jab step and pull the trigger.
Yes, but if you had one move, which one do you use. I'm confident with a few, but on game point I'm going left for the pullup. What are you doing my friend. No hemming and hawing MJ. You got one move, what is it?

Also I'm a sniper. I've hit a few game winning 3's in the league I play in - I can always rely on it.

My spring league starts on Monday. I will have to try this McHale move.

I have a lot of confidence in you but I don't think you can pull it off

actually my usual go to move consists of losing the handle somewhere around the top of the key, regaining it but stopping my dribble, then looking around desperately for someone to pass to & then running into the paint to try & grab a rebound & putback.
Marv@ 4/17/2009 5:18 PM
i've mastered the double-clutch-your-chest-like-fred-sanford move and when the a**hole guarding me runs off to find a defibrillator i miss the wide open layup.

you guys are funny

If I'm playing with a quality guard, I'm going to that curl play because it's an open shot. If it's on me, I run that McHale move 5-10 a game, so if I set up for that I either run it, and if they play off me, I stare them down and take a 15 footer without a hand in my face.

hesitation crossover...
VDesai@ 4/17/2009 6:55 PM
I use a jab step a la Allan Houston. Used to have a pretty quick release. Also a lot of turnaround J's and post ups.

Keys to the McHale move are face the basket. High post, face-to-the basket. The opponent is aggressively defending. Your foot drags and gets planted behind the defensive player's heel. Thigh bars the defensive player's movement. I also try to get the elbow behind the guys side for extra leverage. Done right, you're close to the basket with plenty of space.
McHale had plenty of post moves, but you can see a decent example of what I'm talking about at 1:12
There's also an extension of the move he uses... his back is tot he basket, he uses his ass to create space, uses his pivot foot, then does the move and uses his steps

Great point SC. Mchale also had about 21 different posts moves. True story.

I have a very specific move for when the game is winding down and Bip is guarding me.
He's playing tough defense. The refs are on lockdown. My teammates are dead. I distract the ref by paying some strippers to lift up their shirts in front of them. Then I throw the ball in Bips face. As he's on the floor crying, I drive by him jump on a trampoline and make a thunderous dunk that Dwight Howard envies. And then I roar like a lion and the refs look at me in disbelief, thinking I just crossed up Bippity. I send closked his ars.

Definitely dude... didn't mean to make it sound like McHale had one move because he had tons and tons. I call that one the McHale move because that was his unique move. His other moves were borrowed or similar to other dudes but he completely pioneered that bad motha trucka
He was/is considered the best technical post player ever, I was 6' by the end of the 5th grade but a string bean... I didn't have the hops or athleticism so I modeled my game after the best technical post player that's ever lived... maybe there's been better with athleticism thrown in, but it made more sense for me to mimic Mchale than Olajuwon
orangeblobman@ 4/18/2009 11:41 AM
So I studied the YouTubes. I wasn't old enough to watch the GREAT MCHALE play, but I see what you're talking about. He was so technically strong that it's absurd! I will definitely try to model my game after him as the rec league season kicks off. This gives me much confidence.
edit-- Really, it comes down to positioning and using your body to establish your aura, your area. It is possible to excel at basketball with a strong IQ, which is why I love it.
