Off Topic · If this ends up true with A Rod--Yankees should look for ways out of contract (page 1)

If he BS again and he really did take steroids as far back as HS and continued them until very recently--I would look for a clause in his contract to get rid of him. All of that juice he's going to start breaking down and quickly be a shell of his over rated self and everyone hates him as is.
He is probably the most disliked player in sports
Marv @ 5/1/2009 10:03 AM
there must be a role for him in the knicks front office.
djsunyc @ 5/1/2009 10:29 AM
are you serious?

if there's been more stringent drug testing - including OLYMPIC drug testing twice the past 4 years for the WBC, then arod is probably not juicing as much as he did before.

plus, roids were not illegal in baseball until 2 years ago.

i think arod is going to come back and BEAST this season. i'm an arod fan and i don't give 2 craps about the steroids or the nonsense off the field. the fool needs to embrace his uniqueness, take a "i don't give a sh t" attitude and continue to destroy pitchers. he's the best player in baseball - better than pujols b/c arod plays a tougher position on the field.

nah, not really. pujols played 3B just as well, maybe if arod was still playing SS. offensively, pujols is much better and more consistent along with successful playoff stats. as far as the steroids, who cares. there is still hgh out there with no test. if you are a baseball fan you just have to accept the fact that most of these guys are/were on something. but it would be funny to see arod break down quickly without it.

i wish someone would run an investigation into Pujols' background & see if he's ever used roids... for my money i'd bet that he has & still is using... as for ARod, i hope he is still using... in fact, i hope he pumps himself up full of HGH & rages for the Yankees in the next 7 years & puts up unprecedented astronomic numbers the like that have never before been seen in baseball... i want him to hit 90 HRs & 200 RBI's in a single season... GO AROID! if u wanna take steroids, all power to you... just put up the numbers & don't get caught.
djsunyc @ 5/1/2009 1:36 PM
no investigation needed...pujols looks cro-magnum...

Doug Mientkiewicz never saw Alex Rodriguez use steroids in high school

By Dylan Hernandez
May 1, 2009

Dodgers utilityman Doug Mientkiewicz said that he, Alex Rodriguez and their teammates on the Westminster Christian High spent as much time together as possible.

They were always together in school, Mientkiewicz said. They often ate dinner together. Many players, including Rodriguez, frequently slept over at Mientkiewicz's house, which was only 10 minutes from the private school in suburban Miami.

Mientkiewicz said he never saw any signs that Rodriguez was on steroids, as is being alleged in an upcoming book by Sports Illustrated's Selena Roberts, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

"From my perspective, it would be 99.9% impossible for us not to know," said Mientkiewicz, who was a year ahead of Rodriguez in school.

Mientkiewicz lashed out at Roberts, who broke the story that Rodriguez flunked a drug test in 2003 while playing for the Texas Rangers. The report forced Rodriguez to admit in February that he took banned substances from 2001 to '03.

Rodriguez put on 25 pounds of muscle between his sophomore and junior years in high school, according to the book.

"You're basically accusing every kid that's gone through puberty that they're on steroids too, huh?" Mientkiewicz said. "He gained a couple of inches height-wise too, if I remember right. . . . I knew what he looked like in ninth grade. He was skinny. Who isn't in ninth grade? He was very dedicated back then, he worked harder than anyone else."

One of Roberts' sources was a high school teammate of Rodriguez's, according to the Daily News.

"If you're going to have the [guts] to come out and say something like that, of that magnitude, whether it's a high school teammate or some of the Yankee teammates that have said something, be a man and put your name on it," Mientkiewicz said. "Don't give me the anonymous source [stuff]. Be a man. Be a man and say who you are. That way there's no questioning whether it's real or not."

THANK YOU DOUG! fuggin' anonymous source cowards, either come out & be known or STFU!

EX-EXEC: NO SIGN ALEX TIPPED FOES

There's a difference between cheating baseball and cheating your team.

When Alex Rodriguez admitted using steroids from 2001-03, he admitted to cheating the game. If he tipped pitches to an opposing team -- which he is accused of doing in Selena Roberts' forthcoming book "A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez" -- then he was cheating his own team.

"Integrity is a real question in our sport, and tipping pitches to help someone on the other team really takes that to a different level," said Mike Cramer, who was the president of the Texas Rangers during Rodriguez's tenure there. "From my time in Texas, I never heard that, never saw it. It's not the game we all like, that A-Rod liked, and it would be hugely disappointing if it's true."

For all the players who have been linked to steroid use in the past decade, the number of people who have been proven to have cheated their own team over the course of baseball history is minuscule. If Rodriguez joins that club, it would tarnish his already beleaguered image even more.

"From the position I was in, you pick up things, you hear rumors," said Cramer, who now teaches at NYU and works for a private investment firm. "I never heard anyone say anything about [tipping pitches]."

Cramer had his ear to the ground when he decided to sign Rodriguez to a 10-year, $252 million contract in 2001. He said there was no indication at that point that the 26-year-old was doing anything to tarnish the game -- especially steroids, which Roberts reports in her book A-Rod started doing in high school.

"There's no way anyone would have signed that deal if we believed he was on the juice," Cramer said. "We gave him the biggest contract ever, made him the face of the franchise; if he was using in Seattle and before, I'm horribly disappointed.

"If that's the case, he came to us and sold us a bill of goods, and I think it's worse than if he started using in Texas."

Selena Roberts has no credibility. A mudslinger without substance.
OasisBU @ 5/2/2009 9:54 AM
Personally, I think it is definitely possible he roided in HS and with the Yankees buy who in baseball wasn't? Also, there is no direct evidence so it is accusations from player who refuse to be named (cowards). I have pit on 25 lbs of muscle and increased my bench significantly in 6 months without roids although not 100-300lbs. I think Selena is exaggerating to sell books - A-Rod struggling to bench 100lbs. In high school sounds like BS. She is just trying to sell books but there is no doubt his credibilit is shot.
orangeblobman @ 5/2/2009 1:13 PM
well just the fact that we're talking about it right now is enough to tell you that the yankees would never consider cutting him or looking for ways out of his contract. he's a douche, yea, he's a piece of doodoo, yea, he's a choker, etc.., but he sells tickets and people talk about him. thats all the evil empire cares about anyway.
TMS @ 5/2/2009 1:15 PM
yankees also care about the 40 HRs & 120 rbi's he drives in every year.
orangeblobman @ 5/2/2009 1:16 PM
yea that goes with the selling tickets part, bacause we sure all know they've more or less sucked for how long now
TMS @ 5/2/2009 1:30 PM
you gotta be kidding me w/this... u must be a Mets fan.
orangeblobman @ 5/2/2009 1:46 PM
