Off Topic · OT: I need some help (page 1)

Anyone need a printer/scanner/fax/copier(all in one) or know anyone that does? What about an extra Direct TV receiver? I've fallen on hard times. I'm trying to sell off some unneeded stuff. Both things are in perfectly good condition and working fine. The printer even comes with brand new ink. I tried Craigslist but so many people on there now that you never get any replies. I am selling the HP Laserjet for $200 (negotiable) and the Direct TV receiver for $50 (normally $100 at Radioshack).

Thanks guys. I hope someone can help. I do Paypal.

Have you tried Ebay or amazon.com's marketplace?
BRIGGS @ 6/1/2009 4:59 PM
My suggestion is keep your stuff and work 80 hours a week somewhere--anywhere 2-3 jobs if need be. Arean't you like 20 years old? What are hard time for 20 years old??? We used to go out with 3.00 in our pockets and find the place that had nickel beers from 8-10 and quickly chug.

The thing with those sites is they charge you a fee to post stuff for sale regardless if you sell them or not.

I'm gonna try to be nice because your arrogance and ignorance are pretty bad: Do you know hard it is to find a job out there today? People are getting fired nowadays, not hired. It's hard to find one job, let alone 2-3. Give me a break. You think I would be doing this if it was that easy? I'm not lazy. I am desperate. Yes I am 20 years old. The problem is my entire family is on hard times and I'm trying to help them here the best I can. I pay stuff here too. Nickel beers? This isn't the 1950's BRIGGS. Get with the times. $3.00? I wish. Find me a place you can go to without spending at least $20 and I'll become Bynum's # 1 fan.

Yeah but they are pretty small - you just have to price your stuff to move but it is a hassle.

As far as work goes - take ANYTHING you can find. I just graduated from a top business grad school and spent almost 100k on tuition alone and right now I am working for $10/hr - but things could be worse, and I could be making ZERO. Find a $7-10/hr job if you can, maybe wait tables at night to get pocket change - the trick is you need to be doing something. If you sit home and look for work on the internet you will remain unemployed, plus if you have an hourly job you will find interviews are much easier because the person on the other side of the table knows you are a hustler. Good luck.

Right--Im sorry to hear about the family situation but selling your goods is no solution for a 20 year old male. It's a one -time payment and then it's dry. Go to Mcdonalds and get a job if you have to--then get a second shift at Butger King if need be. I have a hard time believing that in NY you cant find a job or two--any job. You might meet some nice young girls there--have some fun and make some cash. It's not a long term gig but at 18-19-20 you do what you have to do in the summer to make money. I started working at 13 delivering newspapers and I always had a job including washing dishes at a Chinese restaurant and busing at a Mexican restaurant before high school on high school in college during the summer--working a shtty job is a good fundamental short term thing for a young kid. Makes you work harder in and out of college when it counts.

Thank you for the life lessons but I don't think you understand that as far as Queens goes there is nothing in or near my area that is available. Getting a job in the city would mean wasting $20 or more per week on a metrocard and with me not having much experience I would be basically shitting away 25-50% of my salary on buses and trains. I was a bus boy just recently but getting paid $80 a week is not work working 9 hour days. I have bills to pay which are more expensive than that. It's easy to just say "find a job" when you have one. Have you checked to see the unemployment rate in NYC this year? I don't think you have. I have gone everywhere. I've interviewed, handed in resumes, completed applications, whatever. There is nothing. I will continue to look for work. That's not the point of the topic. The point is for the time being I need some cash. I didn't ask for advice on work. I asked for some help in finding someone who can help me sell this stuff.
VDesai @ 6/1/2009 8:38 PM
Just post it it on ebay- you'll recoup the selling fee.
jaydh @ 6/1/2009 8:49 PM
yup, either craigslist or ebay.

sorry to hear man - tell me more about the HP Laserjet. what model is it and year did you purchase?
Allanfan20 @ 6/2/2009 10:40 AM
GKF, Briggs went over the line when he told you to get 3 jobs and said he used to get 5 cent beers (We can only dream) but is selling this printer for easy but short term cash something you're going to regret in the long run? Are you still in school and if you need to write papers and all, do you have access to someone elses printer or a library?

Good point. If you're selling it now and just going to end up buying a more expensive one in the future, then it hardly pays. I'm really sorry to hear about your situation but I do think you should be able to find a low paying job to help you. $20 per week on Metro Cards doesn't sound that bad. And you'll learn how to use the buses or whatever traveling you have to do more efficiently. Maybe if you do a great job, after a few weeks you could explain to your boss how expensive traveling is and see if he/she could help you out in any way. Or maybe you can find a co-worker to carpool with.

It's an HP Laserjet 3200. I purchased it about 4-5 years ago. It has everything in one - printer, scanner, fax and copy. It is basically like-new since it hasn't been used that much.
