Off Topic · Harry Connick Jr. Hates Racism (page 1)

With all the race talk on the board today, I thought of this show that Harry Connick Jr. was on in Australia. Apparently it's a comedy/talent show. Anyway, a team of five contestants showed up thinking doing a blackface routine mocking the Jackson Five would be humorous. Connick didn't agree. If you wanna skip straight to duke's reaction, it's at about the 2min mark. I always liked this dude but I like him more now.

Connick looking around all nervous like "man, I gotta say something or all the brothas that I kick it back home with are gonna get all in my ass"

Yeah, it was pretty dumb and not funny. Seems like they just don't know any better.
Good job by HCJ.

Thank you, Allanfan20, let it be duly noted that Allanfan is a kind and compassionate human being-- this is the proof.

International attitudes towards racism are a lot different than the ones held in this country... Americans are particularly sensitive to it due to the long history of racism in the development of our country... the Civil War & black slavery, the abuse of Chinese railroad laborers, Japanese-American internment camps during WW2, segregation & the KKK, etc... all of these ugly periods in our nation's history cause many Americans to be cautious whenever we approach the topic... in many other countries they don't have this kind of history to influence their attitudes & approaches to the issue... case in point, the Spanish athletes mocking Asians w/the chinky eyes salute during the Beijing Olympics... to them it was all in good fun... to me & many people I know, it was an insult & a show of ignorance on their part... in truth, it was both... they meant no real harm in making the gesture, but it proved a general lack of understanding & sensitivity to why it would offend people of another race... the same thing occurred here w/this Gong show black face bit... apparently the performers were all of different nationalities & ethnicities.
i thought HCJ handled the situation very well... he didn't diss his Aussie hosts and didn't come off as an American with a superiority complex either... we was respectful but stated his case & got the message across.

If Allanfan only took such good care of his liver as he does the world!
Harry Connack Jr. in the Movie "independance day" does a great impersonation of the Rev. Jessie Jackson. Funny stuff!
