This is true. Don't click on it. If you have not clicked on it yet then it has not done the complete damage. Easy way to get rid of it is to do a System Restore.

When the poop hits the fan on your PC and your machine is really really compromised, download a prog called Combofix. http://www.combofix.org/download.php.

Copy the single .exe file to your desktop and run it. It does not install to your PC or anything and it autoupdates itself when you use it. Be warned tho, Combofix is extremely powerful, takes a little time (10-30 mins) and your computer will be unavailable while it runs. Its basically the mother of all AV's without any gimmicks, flashy bits or anything. It does exactly what it says on the tin, it fixes. It WILL fix your machine. Enjoy.

Another next-gen virus to keep an eye out for is one which plays music (ads) on your PC for no reason and one where you IE doesnt load up on certain windows/tabs. Run CF to be sure theyre all gone.

Briggs are you talking about removing icons in the system tray right to the left of the clock (bottom right)?

If that's what you mean, go to Start, Run, type in msconfig, click the startup tab, and then uncheck any of the programs you don't want to load when your computer boots up.

Use this only if you remember downloading or installing those two programs you mentioned -- "alpha anti-virus" & "antivirus system pro." If you never heard of those and they just popped up out of nowhere all of a sudden then yeah, sounds like a virus and you'll need to run an anti-virus program.

i wouldn't advise u do this unless u'r an advanced user & know exactly what you're doing, cuz u may disable some necessary bootup programs by accident... if u just want to disable the icons from appearing in the Systray, just try right clicking on the icon & see if there are Options which will disable them from showing or running... u can also try right clicking on the Taskbar, click "Properties" & then click "Customize" on the lower right of the box... there u can choose "Hide when inactive". (This is if you're running Windows XP... Vista or Windows 7 might have different work arounds for this)

Sorry forget what I just mentioned...I just searched goggle for those two things and it looks like they're viruses. If you're looking for a good anti-virus program, looks like these are the top ones out there right now:

I had a problem one time where a certain icon in the system tray wouldn't go away. I right clicked it, clicked 'close,' and even tried doing what you mentioned above and it kept coming back everytime the computer booted up. Someone told me about doing it this way...I don't think that's what Briggs is looking at though. Those two things are defintely viruses. I looked them up...
