i've been using my treo 700p (palm) for the past 3 years. i was going month to month on sprint the last year waiting for a reason to upgrade phone. the evo was a reason so i did it.

i just picked it up friday and it's an amazing phone. my biggest concern was using the touch screen keyboard but since the screen is 4.3 inches, using it was very easy. i'm still new to the whole android system but it is f'n powerful. no 4g in new york until the fall but sling has been showing the sling media player already in conventions for the android and they said it'll be out in a month. can't wait to use the micro hdmi cable - how sick is that for the phone to put out an hdmi signal at 720p?

surfing, emails, etc are all pretty cool. still looking at the apps and stuff so i have a lot of investigating to do.

the only drawback i see is the battery life. the treo would last forever. but this phone's battery drains rather quickly. for instance, i had it fully charged last night (8pm) and by the time i woke up, it was at 70% battery life with minimal stuff running on it. no biggie i guess as i will have a charger at work, home and in the car...

DJ: Battery life on these phones suck compared to Treo, Blackberry and Nokia phones. Also, I can never get used to typing on touch screen so I have to have the blackberry too. You are going to love that marketplace. There are apps for everything and the voice search is unreal. You should look into getting Android 2.2 ported to the Evo. Sprint sucks though. Snapdragon has worked wonders for HTC cause their entire line of Android phones (Nexus One, Driod Incridible, and EVO) are great phones.

I have the HTC droid Eris and I love it. HTC is my new favorite phone company. I'll never buy a blackberry ever again. I've been very impressed with my battery life vs. the blackberry storm and other prior phones.

Blackberry phones are very good for what they do. Messaging. It has by far the most robust corporate email/calendar/contacts solution. BBM is pretty good too. But thats what it is. A messaging phone. Nokia makes the best hardware. Trust me, HTC has absolutely nothing on Nokia when is comes to hardware but their software (Symbian) sucks. The S^3 might be very good but even then, Android is the best cell phone OS. And HTC is the perfect phone manufacturer for Android. So yes, even though I have a soft spot for Nokia, HTC is my new favorite phone company.

DJ, don't you have issues with Sprint service where you live/work?

i live in a pre-war apartment building in queens. all cell phone signals (all providers) in my place are weak. i've heard alot of people don't like the network but i haven't really experienced any problems with it.

I will be receiving mine today in the mail.

im gonna get one of those phones in a few weeks for me and the misses. having experienced both sprint (now) and verizon (presprint), i say verizon has provided the best coverage overall. sprint is pretty good in ny, but once you start traveling the coverage becomes suspect. the plans are what makes the difference - big problem w verizon is the extra coin you need to pay for unlimited data plans.

iPhone 4 was announced today - it isnt all that impressive. You can video chat on it which I guess is cool but the other person has to be using an iphone 4 so thats a fail right there.

The only thing I really like is the ability to bring my music. Can you do that on the android phones?

If you have the cash for a 32GB SDHC then you can trash your IPOD. Phone is awesome. Still getting used to the touch screen typing.

How do you load it on and what is the user interface like? Do you still get album covers or just track listings? Just curious

I use Winamp and I can load playlists and album art. I previously had a Blackberry Tour and this phone's media player shits on it. With my Blackberry I had to use the crappy Roxio Software it is bundled with to move music and keep my playlists intact.

battery life for the 4g iphone seems very impressive if what they're claiming is true... & the screen display looks awesome... it has double the amount of pixels of the 3g iphone... the incredible has a better camera tho... not sure which has the better OS at this point, but i think the iphone will have more apps for it.

Yeah I have a 3G and I love it, but it is definitely slow in terms of performance. The new iphone has the same chip as the iPad and that thing is really fast - but I am not sure I want to drop the cash on a new phone because it is not a real need, I just think it is cool and would be nice. I might wait a while to see how people like it.

wait for reviews. i don't think you can go wrong with either phone...it's really a personal preference at this point. i do know that at&t now has a 2GB limit on the data plan and you will have to pay extra if you surpass it. i picked up the evo b/c i've had my treo for 3 years and was due for an upgrade.

Sling player mobile coming to Android... hmmm.
OasisBU @ 6/27/2010 10:31 AM
I went with the iPhone 4 and it is pretty impressive. Coming from a 16 Gig 3G this thing is a lot faster and the screen is really amazing.

I thought about the google phones but the software didn't look as tight as iOS4 on the iPhone. I think they are definitely close though. For me it was the ability to video chat with family (I am on the road all the time), the screen, the camera upgrade with the ability to shoot 720p video, an the fact that I am familiar with the platform.

I also jailbreak my phone and use some apps like mywi for teathering - although I understand the google phones do this as well.

So far I am pretty happy and the build quality is impressive. The new phone also feels easier to type on than the 3G was.
