That didn't last long....

The unbelievable season of Randy Moss took another surprising turn on Monday afternoon, as the star wide receiver was waived by the Minnesota Vikings, according to Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network, who made the report via Twitter.

"[Vikings head coach Brad] Childress told the team in meeting they waived Moss as Moss did not go back with the team to Minnesota," Lombardi reported. "Moss was not in the meeting."

The Vikings traded for Moss at the beginning of October, sending a third-round pick to New England in exchange for Moss and a seventh-round pick.

In four games with the Vikings, Moss caught 13 passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns. In the four games with New England prior to the trade, he caught just nine passes for 139 yards but did have three touchdowns.

On Sunday, after the Patriots had beaten Moss and the Vikings 28-18, the wide receiver conducted as bizarre a postgame news conference as humanly possible. He called out the Vikings and the coaching staff while heaping tremendous praise on the Patriots.

"I tried to prepare, tried to talk to the coaches and players about how this game was going to be played, a couple tendencies here and a couple tendencies there," Moss said of his attempts to help the Vikings beat the Patriots. "But the bad part about it, you have six days to prepare for a team and on the seventh day, that’s Sunday, meaning today, I guess they come over to me and say, 'Dang, Moss, you were right about a couple plays and a couple schemes that they were going to run.'

"It hurts as a player that you put a lot of hard work in all week, and toward the end of the week, Sunday, when you get on the field, that is when they acknowledge the hard work you have put in all week. So that is a disappointment," Moss added.

Moss also questioned Childress' decision to go for a touchdown on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line before halftime.

"I wish we could have had that three [points] at the end of the half," he said. "Maybe it could have been different. Maybe not."

If the report is indeed true, teams will be able to sign Moss in order of the worst record to the best record in the league. That puts the Bills, Panthers, Cowboys, Broncos, 49ers, Browns, Bengals, Lions and Chargers as the teams with the first chance to sign him.

The Patriots, with an NFL-best 6-1 record, would only have a chance to re-sign Moss if all other 31 teams passed on their chance. Given that he's now burned through two teams in the matter of a month, teams will likely be very hesitant to add a player like Moss at this point in the season. It's not out of the question that the Patriots take that gamble, as they have an intimate knowledge of Moss from his three-plus seasons in New England.

I love the last paragraph. The dude was traded because of a riff with Tom Brady. Whey would they want him back?

He should go to the Bengals, they are collecting big mouth Recievers there.

Actually he'd be perfect for the Dallas continued demise.

Vikes seem as tired as Farve looks.

Somtimes you just don't know when to quit.

Moss will land on the Jets. Rex knows how to deal with guys like that.

Jets are a good call, Rex could probably deal with his ego and the rest of the team would probably check his arse if he tried
any stuff. They seem like a tight crew.

Not sure why they would do that...but I guess they had their reasons.

a team with a worse record than the Jets will inevitably claim him... he's too talented a player, someone will take a chance on him.

Your'e probably right unless his production this year and his off the field issues scare off some teams.

The Jets have 3 good recievers- they don't need Moss.

The team that needs him the most thats close to the playoffs is the Redskins. They are crazy enough to take that chance too.

as a skins fan, they are not a playoff team right now. oline is awful, mcnabb is hurt/not playing well. who is gonna be able to get him the ball?

i can just see Moss adding to the drama in DC now w/the whole Shanahan/McNabb thing going on... that would be fun to watch.
TMS @ 11/2/2010 1:02 AM
my money's on either the Raiders or Rams picking him up.

hey man, living down in VA has given me more of an appreciation for Skins fans & their team... i actually admire your passion for a team that keeps ripping your hearts out every year... i wish no ill on the Redskins unless they're playing my G-Men on Sunday.

yall r gonna kill us in a few. could be worse then the game u guys smoked the bears.

TMS @ 11/2/2010 2:06 AM
i dunno about that... Skins always seem to play the G-Men tough... i think the games should be close, but we'll get the W like we usually do vs. you guys... i sorta like the Skins cuz they usually beat up on the Cowboys, who i can't stand.
SupremeCommander @ 11/2/2010 9:44 AM
I can't wait to see who claims him, because someone will. Interesting, interesting, interesting

jets have one good reciever, and a couple of so so players in EB and JC. I'm a packer fan and i love the jets as well. But sanchez is about as average as chad pen, and can't throw accurate deep passes. Not a good fit at all for moss, maybe the redskins should look into him
