Knicks · Dear STAT aka Amare (page 2)

Im not even mad at Amare because I know he cant carry a team by himself. The guy needs help. This is why I was advocating trading the farm for Melo.

It's a bunch of extremely young guys and Felton and Amar'e. This team is very young outside of those two.

There is a bottom line with anything--and my friends--this isnt working. We should be focused on defense/rebounding and taking good shots--we do none of the above.

Go get me Jason Thompson and a new coach. That is the only attainable big who is young and legitimately can give me 15-8 and close to 50%. We get a chance to see how Amare plays with another good big for the rest of the year.

BINGO. Defense will keep you in games.

D'Antoni doesnt care about defense though.

The problem is not Amare Stoudemire. This is not his game. He is being asked to beat people off the dribble and hit long range jumpers He is probably the best outside shooter on the team thus far, but that is a problem.

Amare Stoudemire needs to be catching the ball where he has a chance to do something with it, and he needs players who can deliver when he is triple-teamed.

***

That said, signing Amare Stoudemire to a 5-year, $100,000,000 guaranteed contract was obviously a desperate move by the Knicks and will most likely be Allan Houston part II, except with less winning.

i don't need to see any trades. i need to see a new coach. i don’t' have faith that the current one can accurately determine for us what these players are capable of.

Change the coach to fit the players, or change the players to fit the coach. please get rid of gallo and WC. Walsh is so sick after the houston trade for crack grady, that he's so paro about making a another mistake

Amare is trying so hard...He is trying to will the Knicks to victory himself...The first three games I honestly thought he would hurt himself trying so hard... The Knicks don't have the pieces for success or the philosophy...The coach is still trying to fit a square peg in a round hole...Someone needs to give him a hammer...

Players stop moving on offense when they come to the conclusion that they are not going to get the ball even if they move without it and get open. Your next step is to conclude that the only way you are going to get a shot is by taking one when you finally get the ball, even if it is not a good shot. This is not a recipe for an effective team offense.

Fields and Gallo were doing a lot of cutting without the ball yesterday- they rarely got rewarded with a pass when they did get open, and they frequently stood around when Amare had the ball because they know he will not kick it out to them of a drive. They also have to notice that Felton is more intent of trying to force a P&R than penetrate and kick the ball out for an uncontested J, and this does not exactly foster the kind of offense gets everyone involved.

The team does not have an offensive identity at this point, A lot of players can be blamed for poor or inconsisent play, but the coach or the PG have to take brunt of the criticism from where I am looking in.

holfresh @ 11/15/2010 3:46 PM
Everyone can't cut to the basket..Amare needs the space in the middle, it's not that simple...the point guard lacks vision...The point guard isn't running the offense...

Word. The PG is not distributing and the coach isn't doing anything about that problem. Something's got to give way or we are going to do a lot more losing.

I remember one point in last night's game when Fields was WIDE open right under the hoop and got looked off by the ball carrier (was it Mozgov?) It was a ridiculous example of what you're saying.

I wanted to smash my flat screen in disgust when I saw that. It wasn't a quick decision sort of thing. Fields was literally waving his arms and screaming "pass me the rock" for most of his 3 seconds before he shrugged and ran out of the paint. It was as if he was saying "Fine, piss off if you can't pass the ball to an open mofo standing under the hoop unguarded."

That sort of thing (even if it's not Felton) just makes players get frustrated and start taking ill-advised shots.

Yep, major brain fart by Randolph, he really doesn't seem to be able to think and move at the same time, may be too complicated for his fragile intellect.

Yup...reminds me of a 6 month old Great Dane puppy...always just wanting to please and doing the it can best ...yet...the sugar bowl is on the floor and sugar everywhere.

You were brought in here to be Amare Stoudemire. Not LeBron James. LeBron chose Miami and we chose you. You are not faster, stronger and taller than everyone in the league. Be humble and stop the isolation plays.

That is all.

amazing that this still applies today. guess it has nothing to do with Melo.

i'll stand by my opinion. this team just needs time to learn.

and just in case people haven't picked up, the original post i quoted was from november 2010.

Amare needs blah blah blah blah blah blahhhhh. He sucks. Lets be serious. He can't create for himself. He drives the ball baseline and goes no where but out of bounds
