I saw that Palin "target" list as well Paladin. I hope the media takes her to task on this until she calls on her followers to tone down the rhetoric.

Here's a video of Giffords around the time of the health care vote when her office was vandalized.

GustavBahler @ 1/8/2011 3:43 PM
Been skimming over the network coverage and Fox (take it for what its worth) was interviewing an AZ state Senator and she said that Giffords is doing better and out of surgery ,and the shooter is an Afghan vet.
orangeblobman @ 1/8/2011 3:47 PM
Woah, this is crazy. My prayers are with Giffords and her family.

I know my politics are showing, but hopefully this kind of thing will backfire on the right, and lead to some extra votes for Dems in the 2012 election. I'm not a big fan of the Democrats, to be honest, but this Tea Party thing, and folks like Palin are annoying me, big time.

The doctor at the hospital Gifford is at just said that she was shot once in the head, and that the bullet went through her brain, yet he has hope for a "full recovery."

A 9 year old child is dead.

5 of the victims at his hospital are in critical condition.

Federal Judge also dead I think.

SupremeCommander @ 1/8/2011 4:12 PM
nuts... terrible, tragic. I'll let the dust settle before giving any "analysis"

the initial reaction though is this has been a tough time for most and there's a lot of disatisifaction. I'm not condoning it--far from it--but if there ever was a climate for some deploradle shit like this to happen, this was that time

GustavBahler @ 1/8/2011 5:01 PM
Update: from profiles the shooter allegedly posted, he is a tea partier, not an afghan vet as one local republican politician claimed.
JohnWallace44 @ 1/8/2011 5:11 PM
Wow. If he's linked to the Tea Party, I wonder if that would force a huge shift away from the radical right. Maybe that's giving the public too much credit.
toodarkmark @ 1/8/2011 5:16 PM
As much as I believe he was influenced by hysterical right wing ideals, there is no evidence he was associated with the tea party quite yet. Just obsessed with the gold standard and American grammar.
TMS @ 1/8/2011 5:25 PM
who cares about his politics... this guy is a crazy sumomobitch that killed multiple innocent people... he should be strung up on the nearest pole by his gonads & left for the crows to munch on.

Did they mention why he did it?

Well the evidence is not totally clear yet--but my strong guess is that this was a political statement and apparently more than one person was involved. This is very scary for so many reasons given we are supposed to be free. This happens in Mexico et al not the US. I strongly condemn much of this rhetoric against the Democrats party anyway. President Obama was given a country in war and facing economic default caused by horrible management of the country from 200-2008. Its easy to be an arm-chair QB but hes playing the toughest game there is and I think has done a fine job. This has trickled down to people who may have fallen on tough times yet dont have the fortitude to step up themselves and do whatever it takes to make ends meet for the time being. Blame it on the other guy--thats the ticket. And this is a result of those people who want to see the uS go back to its roots. But this is the wrong time to discuss this.

i actually worked on her campaign marketing this election cycle... it bugs me out to think she got shot by some insane mofo because he didn't agree w/her politics... i agree that it's alot easier to complain about how the country's being run w/o doing something about it... but even if this lady was some pseudo-Nazi i would still condemn someone taking another person's life over a disagreement of ethics... it's scary to know there are sick people like this out there ready to take people's lives because they have different beliefs & stances on certain issues

Briggs, I agree with you ....and this IS the right time to discuss it. The problem is the strong divisive rhetoric, mostly from the ultra-right politicians and the political talk show hosts like Limbaugh. They feast on people's emotions; create fear, anger and hatred; and now we have the result of what this can do. It is really time for this country to cool down, get together and adopt a more moderate approach. Avoid the extreme Left and Right. Our greatest enemy is not from outside, but from within. We can self-destruct, both politically and economically, if this were to get out of hand.

TMS - good for you for taking an active part in the political process.

"We’re on Sarah Palin’s ‘targeted’ list, but the thing is, the way she has it depicted, we’re in the cross-hairs of a gun sight over our district. When people do that, they’ve got to realize that there are consequences to that action." -U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, March 25, 2010

I hope at the very least Sarah Palin is investigated for that chart. It should be illegal in this coutnry to not so subtly ask for people to use violence as a form of Political speech.
Papabear @ 1/9/2011 10:58 AM

This should stop anyone from brandishing their guns at political events.

I totally agree. Just the very fact that Sarah Palin came up with that "Hit list" and that chart shows what Sarah Palin is doing is beyond bushleague. Now she has to at least be held accountable or else Briggs will be 100% right. This will become a growing trend and our country will quickly move towards being more like Mexico.

This has to end right here and right now. Palin HAS to be investigated seriously for this.
