Knicks · For the Trade Haters......... (page 2)
MS wrote:Ok so let me get this straight. Carmelo is going to take his money and go to NJ to play with Lopez, Outlaw and Billups. Any owner not named Dolan wishes him well and tells him to enjoy BK and the 7th seed for the next decade. You tell Melo the following. You're getting the max this summer. If you lose 30 million you will make it up quicker than you realize. You're getting another big contract from us we will market you all over the city and raise your profile. The Heat are not going to win a title this season and if you wait three months we will put a team out there that's better than the Heat and the Bulls. You're going to win a title before Lebron and you're going to be the biggest star in the NBA when you and Amare bring a title to NY.
Moz/Turiaf
Amare/AR
Melo/Gallo
Fields/Draft pick
Felton/DouglasBoston is running on fumes, Orlando has backed themselves into a corner with Arenas and his contract so your right there with the Bulls and the Heat. That team is built for the playoffs and at the rate Melo, Gallo, Amare draw fouls there is no reason to believe we are not the best team in the east.
No matter what the stats are we are still likely to lose in the first round with depleted assets. So in the end Carmelo needed what he needed it had nothing to do with winning.
Would most people leave money on the table, ask Lebron, Wade and Bosh.
Nope, Melo would have probably just resigned with Denver. They never pulled the extension off the table. If it weren't for the CBA Melo would have probably come via FA.

With Dolan running this team not as a fan but as a business man Im just not going down the emotional road with this team.
Im happy with the direction of the team but lets be real. We are one Isiah anouncment away from having to make a choice.
How much would it suck to have to root for your team run by a man you dispise?
Sorry, Im not taking the starphuch bait. Fill the damn roster out and lets watch the game.
We got 10 years of hate being correct to suddenly think some fairy tale happy ever after sheit gonna behold this franchise into some magic collective of fairy dust wonderment.
Last nite was great, we finally held Hansbro to under 29! Defense is looking good! Give MDA a prop!
I don't like Dolan but no one can say that he has a problem spending money. Was this deal about $$$? I don't think so. He wanted the player and he got his player. For all the talk about MSG making money from playoff games, etc, I think the guy wants a winner. The Knicks were playoff bound before the trade and are going to the playoffs. The Knicks were still selling out. He didn't pull the trigger to sell jerseys, there were plenty of people buying Gallo, Felton, and Will jerseys. He let Zeke hand out contracts like candy, go over the cap and he was paying the cap penalty.
The Knicks will fill out the roster.........

I hate dolan but will always root for him to hire good people and make good decisions.
I hope when He bust into the door and went all in on Melo he asked Donnie if he can balance the roster and get it done in the next two years and Donnie gave him an honset opinion.
If Donnie stays it s job doable.
If he goes Im worried.
He goes its about ratings. If he stays its about legacy.
I'll always put money on a dude with money worried about legacy.

Gallo may be a special player....there is no guarantee.
Exactly. If we had a do over of this trade, I would do the same. Melo is a proven player who can score on anyone at any given time.

Seriously.
LOVED what Melo did against Granger last night in the final seconds but this is just getting tired.
Knicks lose: "Melo d-riders. what now?!"
Knicks win: "Melo haters? How you feel now?!"
Forum..quality..dropping.

i have never seen one person on this forum say anything negative towards people who didn't want the melo trade after a knicks win.
Period.
Papabear wrote:Papabear SaysThis is very simple. With Amare out injured Melo can take over the game and win. With the other guys Felton,Gallo, Chandler, with Amare out injured they loose.
Good point. Still, most of us who were against the trade were NEVER against getting Melo. He is a special player. We were against gutting the roster when we could have had our cake and eat it, too.
That said, if there was no other way to get him, then of course it was the right move for us. Locking in a 26yo superstar is never a bad move. Wish we still had Gallo to spread the floor and Felton to run MDA's system at hyper speed, and Moz to block a few shots and collect a few fouls.
But after-the-fact I am more than willing to jump on the Melo train and ride it as far as we can this season. No doubt he has upped his energy level on D (loved the block of Granger - smart Melo knew the Pacers would run the same play as last game) and improved his long-range shooting. He's our star now.
If we don't go far in the playoffs this season, at least we'll know what we need to do as far as building around Melo and Stat.
GO KNICKS!

Watching Re-wind as I write. Before the trade, ball would have gone to A'mare. He might or might not lose the ball trying to drive. Gallo would defer the shot. Felton, a little out of his element, might take shot as we collectively held our breath. Right now, we have one of the top three finishers in the game(Kobe, Durant, Melo). IT FEELS GREAT!!
Billups for whatever reason his the nickname "Mr. Big Shot"
Kobe is considered by many as the games top finisher and the guy you want to take the last shot.
There was a great article published by ESPN that dispelled the notion of both. In fact it's embarrassing that anyone would consider Billups cluth. He has shot 41% over his career and in the past 5 seasons with the game on the line he has shot 3-27. So to say that Felton would be out of his element and you would rather have a guy like Billups who has proven he is a veteran Playoff performer is a little bit of a stretch.
Kobe on the otherhand has shot 36-115 on game winners (31.3%) A far cry from someone that wins you the game when it matters.
I am not in favor of the trade, because of the likelyhood we get bounced early, but Melo is actually the NBA's best at 21-44 shooting at 41.7%. with the game on the line.
Boston has the rep, but they've also been showing signs of slippage. They may not be able to muster up the massive effort it takes to win 4 games in the playoffs this year. I say that because we have the kind of dominant offensive players that will really push the older C's on D and force them to expend lot of energy trying to stop us. Before the trade We didn't have Melo a guy that will really push Pierce to the limit.
I like the trade cuz it actually gives us a better shot to advance and in the coming years a chance to contend for a title.

obviously this core needs some help to get to the championship level. IMO the team would look a lot different with some real bangers added to the roster. Rebounding and post D is the biggest area of need in terms of making this team playoff tough. It's not impossible to see this team finding that help and being a contender for several years. That's why this trade was a good deal for this team. We needed muscle inside and that is till a need, but we've got the star players covered.
Now we'll be looking for a couple of bangers to give this team a real toughness inside and push us over the top.

Every team has needs but we have fewer resources than most do to address them. We have fewer draft picks and young players to trade, and more money tied up in cap space for many years than most teams. With every playoff team you can say "If they address this need and this need and this need..., they'll be great." The issue is how many assets do you have to address those needs.

Next year is a big year in rebuilding. We'll be swarmed with Chris Paul and Dwight Howard rumors, but what we really need to do is just build up chemistry.
Keep our fingers crossed that we have a good draft, maybe we can find a gem over seas or in the D-League, but once Amar'e and Melo get rolling, I think we'll start find ourselves in contention with Miami/LA/etc. for the older vets and journeymen looking to latch onto a winner at a discount.
Bonn1997 wrote:...and more money tied up in cap space for many years than most teams.
This is not true. Knicks have exactly 2 contracts that extend past 2011-2112 - Melo and Stat (3 of you count Balkman).
Yes, 2 max's take up a large percentage of the cap, but the knicks will have more than a third of their cap space freed up (if they decide to go that route in 2012) and (again, besides Balkman), not a bad, long-term contract in site.
Knicks in fact is pretty solid shape cap wise.

To assess whether my claim is true or not, you would have to list how many teams have less money tied up than we do. If it's less than half of the teams in the league, my statement is true. If it is more than half, it's false. Your statement has no bearing on the validity of mine though.
