Knicks · Can Someone Tell Me Who Does Derrick Rose Make Better Besides Himself? (page 2)

This is ffrom Elias Sports Bureau:

Derrick Rose scored 26 points on Tuesday giving him more than 2,000 for the season. Rose is only the third player in the past 30 years to have 2,000 points and 600 assists in one season. LeBron James did that in 2009-10 and Michael Jordan did it in 1988-89.

So let's say for sake of discussion that no one plays better as a result of Derrick Rose. Who cares? That is elite indivual production.

Killa4luv @ 4/13/2011 8:25 AM
Thibideau is coach of the year. But rose is not MVP.
Nalod @ 4/13/2011 8:41 AM
I think MVP goes to the best player on the best regular season team. Spurs don't have a definitive player. Lebron and Wade almost cancel each other out. One is as important as the other.

2000pts and 600 assists is elite status. 61 wins.

Layup.

The kid will get better too!

Howard had a great season and makes for a good arguement. He wins its a good call too. If they were top record in regular season that might just be the decision.

I watched a lot of Suns games in Nash's run. The dude was amazing and ran that team like like clockwork.

25.1 PPG 7.8 APG 1.1 SPG and 4.1 RPG and who has led his team to 61 wins and whose team has been banged up for most of the year is an easy call.

What was Stephon on early in his career?

Rose really does remind me a lot of Marbury. A bigger, faster and stronger Marbury. Hopefully, he has a better noggin.

This kid seems to have his head on straight. During the game yesterday Marv said that no one gets yelled at in practice or during games more than Rose. He doesn't take it personally, he takes it as being coached. Seems pretty humble as well....I remember watching him being interviewed at the All Star game and thanking his teammates for getting him there.

I hope this kid good has a long career...he's a special player.

Very good player. Bulls have all the pieces in place to get to the finals. Rose is the MVP as the leader of the Bulls he has taken them to new heights not seen since MJ days.

i would imagine rose draws alot of double-teams which probably don't lead to direct assists, but if nba kept assist stats like hockey, for the second-pass i bet rose would average a ton more assists per game.

the guy is not marbury.

right.

as for all these Marbury comparisons, Marbury failed in spite of his tremendous physical gifts. It's not liek Marbury couldn't make the amazing happen on the court. His failures had to do with shortcomings in other areas. Derrick Rose has none of these shortcomings.

The Marbury comparison is on the skillset. His head is another matter. Rose seems like he gets it.

I agree there but when I see the Marbury comparisons in a thread titled "Can Someone Tell Me Who Does Derrick Rose Make Better Besides Himself?" it seems like a a big backhanded compliment at Rose. I know it isn't necessarily, because Marbury's physical gifts were tremendous...

I know what you mean. Dinglebury has tarnished his image so bad that people forget what a wonderful talent he had.

martin @ 4/13/2011 11:02 AM
Last year I def would have made the Rose-Marbury comparison, and I did, but not this year. Rose buys into defense, and that's like 80% of the mental battle of being great. He isn't the full-on facilitator yet, but I see that happening too, just because he has bought into getting better.
joec32033 @ 4/13/2011 11:16 AM
I liked Rose but there was an article in ESPN the mag a month or two back that turned me into a fan. I will try and post it later if noone posts it first.

The D-Ride on this kid this yr has surpassed Steve Nash levels of nausea

I honestly think Rose teammates make him better....I really do

He is a good player and can do some very dynamic things but I see Russell Westbrook do a lot of the same things and not as much whacking going on about the kid. If Rose played with Durant I wonder how things would be

I used to like this kid, but the bulls fan and this ass backwards media has made rose a sickening discussion.. the guy is a combo guard.. end of story.. he makes no one else better.. I can go back to guys like kidd and nash and see the contracts they got for average players... if anything, guys like boozer have to work harder for baskets now...

Mray20 wrote:Rose is a scorer at the point guard position not a facilitator , it's true he did not want Lebron which makes him seem like he wants to be the man to me. He relies heavily on his athleticism and mark my words if he gets a knee injury or just as he gets older you will see a dramatic decline in his production. The Bulls do not scare me they look like dog crap when Rose goes to the bench.

I said that before, but ask any bulls fan, and they will tell you he is just 22 and will improve in every facet of the game until he becomes the ultimate basketball machine.. haha

sounds a lot like what people used to say about Jordan.

bulls play ferocious D. they are well-coached. everyone knows their role. they have size. rose is the best PLAYER in the league. they are gonna make noise.

I don't know who said that about jordan..

lebron 26/7/8 is absolutely ridiculous.. why not MVP for bron?

Well the standards change every year for MVP.....

One season it's let's give it to the guy who improves all his teammates numbers

One season it's let's give it to the guy who is a stat stuffer

One season it's let's give it to the guy we looked over last year probably doesn't deserve it this year but we gotta make good on it

One season it's let's give it to the guy who's team relies on everything he does and runs the whole system through and around him

One season it's let's give it to the guy who helped improve his team's overall record from the previous season by the largest margin

One season it's let's give it to the guy who did the most with the least

One season it's let's give it to the guy who kept his team well above waters amid untimely injuries

One season it's let's give it to the guy on the team with the best record

One season it's let's give it to the guy who says he wants to be the league MVP

Rose is a great talent but I believe this dude is more Vince Carter than Michael Jordan, Carter was a beast on offense just like Rose he just never had the supporting cast Rose does. People fall in love with players too quickly these days I wanna see Rose put up these numbers every year for 10 years and then I will compare him to the greats. a 6'3 point guard who double clutches every layup and relies on his freak athletic ability is not gonna be able to put up these numbers once he gets a little older. Rose is not the MVP , I will say Dwight Howard the dude affects both ends of the court like nobody else in the league.
