Melo's playoff debut not the one we expected.

I put more credit to Celtics defense for his performance..he has to find his spots on court where he won't be impeded. All his drives were ended with block shots and he got frustrated and started jacking jumpers. He needs to keep forcing the issue and putting pressure on refs to make some calls.

True story, he needs to put the ball on the floor and drive more in game 2

This Clip just makes me feel disgusted..Honestly I wouldn't expect this call. But if you don't call this you don't call the Melo Offensive Foul for same reason..it's the damn playoffs. I blame Toney for this..Derek Fisher would not fall on a play like this..You just can fall. Same reason I hate Greg Anthony for that Reggie Miller 7 point run..although he got pushed in the back you just can't fall.

Juice @ 4/17/2011 11:01 PM
I actually had to miss the second half which appeared to be a thriller. I'm encouraged by what I saw. To lose 87-85 proves to me we have the personnel to win these games, it's up to the coach first and foremost to get the players into a scheme that affords them the chance to win these games and then for the players to execute it. We choked away a few plays late defensively but it's a lesson learned hopefully we take into Game 2 and the rest of the series.

LOL you read too many comic books foe diddy. what do you want TD to do? he's not looking and KG blatantly trips him.

The Celtics close us off at the perimeter, close passing lanes, etc. We've got to use screens and PnR to free guys up. Too many quick 3s and Iso's. We gotta up the physicality and be the ones laying dudes out.

Get a stronger base in the off season...He falls way too much LOL...Definitely an illegal screen but they will never call that in our favor..Never.

I understand your frustration but when some one clearly intentionally puts their leg into your knee while you're running and then pushes you with his elbow and body, a much bigger body at that, you don't have much choice in the matter of whether you fall or not. Gravity isn't a choice, dirty play however, very much is. Disgusting is right. TD's lucky he didn't get hurt on the play.

one of the biggest weaknesses of the Knicks, IMHO, is that their PG don't and can't break down a defense by dribble penetration. Chauncy too old and TD just doesn't know how to yet. Same reason they start their offense way out on perimeter and do too many iso's

great point. this is just a mish mash of players right now. when you break down the team:
billups/fields/melo/stat/turiaf

with toney D, carter, williams, walker, and jeffries off the bench.

the bench is essentially 2 shoot first PGs (douglas is more defensively minded but on offense he's more of a shooter than a set up and dish guy). williams and walker are both the same skillset but ones a 2, ones a 3. jeffries is a 3 playing 5.

and as you mentioned, no "beat the guy off the dribble" point.

To finish my thought... that's why I'm surprised D'antoni hasn't worked out some screens and diversions to break down the defense. Instead we rely on spreading the floor with 3's, but our cast isn't all that well suited to that either.

I started a thread about this a while back. Dribble penetration would make a huge difference in how we play. Did you see CP3 today?

Agreed to a point. I was at a bar watching the game with Andrew so I missed more action than if I was watching at home, but Chauncey played horribly in the first quarter, and he still does not run the offense (as a whole) very well. TD is limited when running system if his first option is stopped.

I think the spread the floor part is OK, but if you can stop the first or second option of what the Knicks try to run, you can stop them. Their PGs don't reset the offense well enough; if there is time on the clock left, the PG should come back to the ball and take it back and run PnR again, which they don't do enough of.

nixluva @ 4/17/2011 11:30 PM
Man we got jobbed by the refs in this game. I hate even bringing it up, but TD got tripped on that last shot, Chauncey got fouled on his drive that he got hurt. Jermaine O'Neal constantly puts his hand on the shoulder of the guys he's defending so he can hold them down and they let him get away with it. Just horrible whistle which I expected, but still. One other thing the ref's seem to lets the C's get away with a lot of dirty tricks. Like that fake offensive foul that Pierce got for floppin when Melo fended him off. The C's set a lot of dirty picks too.

ON the game I think the Knicks did a great job for much of this game and really the C's didn't do anything with our set D. We can beat these guys. We just need to make some adjustments on offense so that we're not just taking jumpers, but can get to the hole more and thus get to the Foul Line. We settled for too many jumpers and as usual our PG's didn't attack enough. Great game tho.

yeah man, orchestrator. BTW, I am about 95% convinced either CP3 or Deron will be a Knicks in about a year and 3 months. Book it.

matt @ 4/17/2011 11:37 PM
We can beat these guys.. Celtics were lucky to steal this one.. Game 2 is a knick win
