Knicks · Coach has to make adjustments.... (page 1)

holfresh @ 4/18/2011 11:01 AM
This is not an SSOL team...Billups cannot run the pick and roll offense ...Melo can get to the rim...Amare will be fine without the pick and roll for these playoffs...Please stop the wild threes...The Knicks can take it to them...Playoff basketball is about making stops...Every possession counts...Every rebound and free throw count...We don't need a gimmick for Boston, we can face them and beat them...We have the two best players on the court...We are giving it away by jacking up wild threes...We can control the ball and the game...We let them back in the game..

Melo has to calm down...Fields is lost, he can ride the pine...Team playing D(Kudos to Mike)...Jeffries and Turiaf played well...How are we out of time outs at the end of the game...Make the adjustments...
Olbrannon @ 4/18/2011 11:03 AM
Everybody seems fixated on the lack of the p-n-r ..thought Boston was supposed to be one of the best defending it....not like it's gonna be there all the time. And when it is you have to finish (Jeffries) no point in running it otherwise

i see jeffries open many times but he is garbage so no ball for him. if he could only finish, ah...

That guy is amazingly inept on offense.. its mind blowing how bad he is on offense..doesn't make sense at all

There was a reason he was open...

I understand his length, 6'11" can do a lot, but for Shelden Williams to languish on the bench is amazing.

bad ankle?

Juice @ 4/18/2011 12:10 PM
I guess Shelden has Ronny Turiaf disease. Brown is in a suit but Mason is dressed in case we need to close the Celtics out
Rookie @ 4/18/2011 12:14 PM
I thought we adjusted fine...great game....looked like the refs stole that one
fishmike @ 4/18/2011 12:24 PM
I thought the coaching was excellent... whats the beef? Amare destroyed them inside, the defense was great, even the late game calls were fine. We lost because our star player shot 5-18. We cant win like that, and a TON of those where great looks that seemed to go halfway down and pop out. I think everyone here agrees Melo will bounce back and have some good games, if not some monster games. The problem is we got a monster game from Amare. I mean 12-18 and 28 points in a defensive struggle is nothing short of a dominating performance. Expecting that from him over and over is too much.

This is just a problem with out we are presently constructed. We just cant win a playoff game without a big performance from both Amare and Melo. One just isnt good enough.

VDesai @ 4/18/2011 1:11 PM
Turiaf got 9 points simply because he was open underneath. Jefferies could've had the same but he has awful hands.

The coaching was fine yesterday- but I wasn't enamored with the game Chauncey was playing. The PG has to keep the integrity of the offense and execute out there. He did fine in the 2nd, but was mediocre otherwise. Anthony Carter might need to get a heavier dose of minutes.

Yeah....Boston's coaching was excellent..He called two plays at the end of the game that worked..Alley hoops to KG and the big Trey ...He also had a time out when he needed it..He had his team crashing the boards..Look at the offensive rebound stats..Lopsided...Coaching was excellent..just not ours..

Amare didn't touch the ball the last seven possessions..SSOL..

i can pretty much tell you what happened over the last 2:30 of the game. Would you care to let me know how you would have done it differently?

Amare would have gotten touches( Melo 5 touches, (took 4 threes, one offensive foul), Douglas one three)...The hot hand would get the ball, Melo was cold...U know what, scratch that...Melo was the other guy taking the shots at the end of the game and u can't go against that...My problem is the offense that emphasizes the quick three...Every possession in the playoffs is like gold...Taking quick threes down the stretch for me isn't a good at all...Both of our guys can get to the basket, that should be the first option... The defensive rotation against Garnett was horrible... We didn't have a time out, maybe the last one was called because of Billups' injury...It's just tough for me to see why you don't have a 20 left over for that point in the game especially when you on the road playing a close game...

Your thoughts are all over the place.

Within the last ~2:30, the Knicks shots:

Amare scores on drive to basket on dunk.
Next possession, Amare gets offensive foul taking ball to rim on pass out to TD that hits but doesn't count.
Turiaf is wide up underneath basket but fumbles ball and gets blocked; should have been easy basket. I think Melo may have missed rushed 3 point shot early in clock on rebound.
Melo gets stripped of ball by Pierce going to basket near high post.
Billups drives to basket and gets hurt.
TD makes huge 3 with 37 seconds left.
Melo offensive foul on post up.
Melo misses long 3 at buzzer.

SSOL doesn't really come into play at all, and really there was like 1 play where Amare could have gotten the ball and it was the TD 3point shot.

nixluva @ 4/18/2011 4:47 PM
The good thing is that Mike is extremely capable of adjusting. It's not like he's Mike Brown and can't figure out what the C's were doing and come up with an answer. We're in a good spot cuz I liked the defensive approach we had. We rarely gave them anything in their set offense. If we can just rebound better we can keep them from getting so many easy 2nd chance points. That's how the C's really won the game. This is what tells you this team is gonna be bigtime when Donnie gets us some rebounding help.

In the last 2:10, Amare didn't touch the ball...Turiaf missed is when Melo got stripped(look for STAT)...Melo took a quick three after Billups hit the deck with a fresh 24 sec clock(SSOL, look for STAT)...Douglas hit a quick three(SSOL)...Melo offensive foul( not SSOL, iso, Look for STAT)..Melo quick three iso long three(SSOL)I would have drove but that second guessing...The hottest guy in a Knick uni didn't touch the ball the last 2:10 sec...

Ill say this, you hear it from Clyde all the time, it's fundamental, look for the hot hand....You hear Magic Johnson say it all the time...There is something to that... It's just not a saying..

nixluva @ 4/18/2011 5:56 PM
SSOL is about getting GREAT shots verses good shots. What you're trying to do is get the offense started before the defense gets a chance to get set. We haven't been running SSOL since Billups got here and barely did it before that cuz our PG's haven't been that great at executing it. Since Mike has been here we haven't really be able to run SSOL. In the real SSOL you see the team push the ball even on makes and the ball is passed up court to streaking players. We don't do that at all. Once in a while our PG actually passes the ball up court and you see them get it to a streaking STAT or Melo etc. But not anywhere near the frequency it's supposed to happen.
