Jared Jefferies shouldnt be on an NBA court in crunch time. He is a VASTLY overrated defender and a total liability on the offensive end.

Two allstars out of starting line up. I thought the team did an hell of a job and MDA coached well.
Like Al Trautwig said- you gotta know when to leave the table. You gambled and won once, but don't keep pushing your luck. The guy is what he is. He can't hold onto the ball.

if it wasn't for jared jeffries, there wouldn't have been any crunch time.
have some respect. jeffries was the second best knick on the floor tonight.

He played a his best game as a Knick, but that was an offense-defense subsitution scenario if there ever was one. We call timeout, make a sub. We make the shot, Celts call timeout, JJ back in. We miss, we foul the C's and don't need a defender.

on the previous play he hit a driving layup OVER kevin garnett. that wasn't an open, easy layup - that was a TOUGH shot. he also saved the knicks bacon with some HUGE offensive rebounds.
it's easy to judge things in hindsight. all i know is that i felt more comfortable with jeffries on the floor tonight. dude competed with the defending eastern conference champions and helped the knicks get a huge rebounding advantage with his boxing out. he earned his spot out there.
crzymdups@ 4/20/2011 12:15 AM
Also, Turiaf's knee was iced on the bench at the end of the game.
Banged up team - 3 of your starters out - you keep the guy who is having the best night on the floor. And Jeffries was having a good night converting layups and getting offensive rebounds.
I don't have a problem with him being out there.

Him making one layup doesn't change the fact that I would rank him 460/460 for offensive players in the NBA and in a one possesion scenario, there is just no way I have him out on the floor. He's proven to be more likely to blow a layup or drop the ball in his several years as a Knick than actually finish inside. It was a wonder and a miracle he had such a nice night tonight scoring the ball, but at some point you have to decide to stop pushing your luck. The way he was playing you certainly wanted him out there defensively- and I would've made the offense/defense sub to get him back in, but man, knowing that Melo was getting double teamed and that it was Jeffries who almost certainly would be open to have to take that shot...thats just not something that you should coach your self into IMHO.

Simple offense defense substitution in a one shot situation. You need one FG, you gotta get your best offensive players on the floor. Jeffries is without a shadow of a doubt, the worst offensive player in the NBA and has been for about 5-6 years now.
not for nothing, but who do you put in?
I'd rather have Renaldo Balkman out there- he might not remember the play, but at least he has hands.
Carmelo Walker Carter Douglas Williams (2) Mason
Take your pick. Coach didn't want to put any in down the stretch because they hadn't played yet- that is part of the problem.
Take this- and the question about whether MDA prepped his players on what to do Game 1 if the Celts made a FG- and I wonder how much MDA is prepping the team.
I mean, I don't think we'd see these kinds of plays by teams coached by Jackson, Sloan, Rivers or Popovich - even if those coaches didn't have their stars in.

mostly you don't because those coaches flat out have better players and they have teams that have been together for longer. That's what familiarity breeds.

he shot 5-7fg tonight. he was the only knick to make 50% of his shots. he was scoring a lot on open layups when melo was getting doubled and playing with a little confidence.
jared jeffries is not the reason the knicks lost the game.
kevin garnett, rondo, ray allen and paul pierce are the reasons. and lack of amar'e.
i felt fine with jeffries being on the floor on the last play. you guys need to let it go.

Jeffries should not be handling ball at the end of the game. End of story. There is nothing to let go of.
earthmansurfer@ 4/20/2011 6:32 AM
We should have had a finisher in there, not Jeffries. Mike seems to coach the whole game mostly ok, BUT not the endings. Turiaf makes that shot with his eyes closed. I don't care if Jeffries is on fire, I don't want him in there when offense is important.

The thought crossed my mind, but if Smith was a 10 on the are-you-@#$%&*-kidding-me scale, I think this was more of a 7.
And we'll all forget about it when Jeffries goes for 20 Friday night.
It could happen.

too funny.. the guy was great, made so many key plays to keep us in this game, a game we were badly outgunned and what do people take? Too funny.
Oh yea.. and coaching.
you know I went back and watched all the Celtics playoff games when they went to the finals last year and won a title prior. You know they never actually won a single game. It was always just poor coaching from the opposition that allowed them all those wins. Who knew?
Nalod@ 4/20/2011 7:58 AM

TheGame@ 4/20/2011 8:45 AM
I don't blame Jeffries. I blame MDA for not substituting him. They had been doubling Anthony for most of the 4th, so you knew they were leaving Jeffries. Why in the world would you put the game in the hands of the worse offensive player in the NBA? It was just a stupid decision.
technomaster@ 4/20/2011 9:30 AM
Worst offensive player with the worst hands in the NBA.
Of course, this is a guy who averaged 15ppg, 46%fg, 38% 3pt, was big 10 freshman of the year... and #11 overall draft pick.

You should never play off of anamolies. He's a bad offensive player and you had to know the ball was going to him. We don't need to let it go, we need to admit it was a mistake and not make it again.
