"yea i use defensive assistants. GOOD defensive assistants."
Too much, that made my sides hurt!!!!!!!!

how about the 2 trips to the WCF *AFTER* that individual accomplishment? That seems team oriented no? Didnt Nash go from an all star PG to the best TEAM player in the league?
Its silly.. you, vmart, anji... you guys are just blinded by your obvious hate for this guy its pointless to discuss what his strengths might or might not be

Bro, are you really impressed by him just getting to the WCF with a legit ass team? Because I really don't find it impressive.

i'm not saying the suns didn't have a good amount of talent but d'antoni made alot of those guys the players they WERE. diaw marion and barbosa have fallen off the map since they've left d'antoni.

Marion played a ton of minutes under D'Antoni and I think he just wore down. However, he was putting up the same numbers prior to having D'Antoni coach him. Diaw just isn't winning his numbers are the same or better than when he had D'Antoni as his coach.
I don't see D'Antoni being flexible enough for this to work.

If Atlanta found a way to utilize an over the hill Jason Collins to play Howard they probably don't get past Orlando. I think if you just keep repeating it 100 more times - maybe 500 who really knows - at some point it may come true.
keep at it.

Fish, you don't acknowledge Melo's trip to the WCF, but you do Mike D'Antoni's. I'm staunch supporter of MDA. The Man needs to learn to utilize a true center, that is my only complaint, he seriously needs to lose his dog house mentality and find worth in the talent give to him and not throw it on the waste side.

Martin, I really don't understand where you are coming from, it is point blank obvious and you seem to miss it every time. It is a fact that he doesn't play centers. Tell me what legit center he has ever played other than Shaq? Please spare me what center has he had to play with.
MDA needs a defensive assistant. I know it, you know it, Steve Kerr knew it, and probably the entire league knows that he defensive schemes are either too complicated or not well-coached. Granted with guys like STAT, our defense is only going to be so good, but scrubs should not consistently have career nights against us. That just cannot happen. MDA needs to swallow his pride and turn the defense over to a proven defensive assistant.

what other centers ARE there to play? You can't play what you don't have. is there something I am missing?
MDA doesn't like Michael Jordan. MDA doesn't like Kevin Durant. MDA doesnt like Deron Williams. For the past 3 years MDA has not liked Nash?
What's the difference between what I just wrote and what you did?

Are you looking for a list of guys that he didn't play when they were here that would play for coaches that use centers?
Vmart, quite literally the 3 centers that I am coming up with the MDA has had on his rosters are Shaq, Moz, and Darko.
MDA played Shaq. He played Moz too early, benched him, brought him back and was a voice for not making Melo trade cause of the last trade piece in Moz (from what I understand and have read). Darko was a pussy.
So, with that in mind, you come to the conclusion that he doesn't play C's?
I can understand if you made the argument if there was some legit centers on his rosters that did nothing and then were traded (and also then played consistent minutes on other teams). I can understand if you came up with rumors of PHO trades that did not go down that would have brought in C's and MDA tried to block. But I am not hearing anything to that end.
Making an argument about something not happening when circumstance does not present itself is not an argument at all; that's just a fan not liking MDA and not having anything better to argue about.
Sarver said D'Antoni agreed before the 2007-08 season that he'd consider adding a defensive coordinator to the bench once Marc Iavaroni left for Memphis. Kerr brought then-free agent Tom Thibodeau to town. (Thibodeau was a long-time Jeff Van Gundy assistant and had been interviewed for a few head coach jobs that summer.) Sarver said D'Antoni rejected Thibodeau and instead promoted his brother Dan D'Antoni to lead assistant. Thibodeau, of course, eventually landed in Boston, where he implemented what became the league's highest-rated defense.
Did D'Antoni feel threatened by the Thibodeau suggestion? If Sarver and Kerr knew he was stubborn and didn't like having a boss, why did they think he'd approve of having the boss' hand-picked #2 on his staff? Of course, I imagine Suns fans will be less than ecstatic that D'Antoni put his own autonomy in higher regard than the team's plight. With Thibodeau's specific expertise, the team could have won a title.

This should be interesting..I remember was few weeks back MDA saying in a radio interview that adding a defensive assistant is assuming he doesn't know what he is doing...
Mike believes in what he's doing. Many coaches are stubborn about their way of doing things. Especially if they've had success. And no success doesn't only mean winning a title! If you win a ton of games and go deep in the playoffs with teams that are good but not great that gives you confidence as a coach.
You can't tell me that this guy wouldn't be more successful if we had a real serious option at Center. Not just Darko or some other loser but someone that can actually be a real impact player. We need a big tough rebounder/defender in there to anchor the defense. It's hard to see how we can solve that need, but until we have that kind of player it's really hard to kill the coach about the lack of D and rebounding.
What people are really saying isn't so much that he doesn't come up with great schemes, but rather that he just doesn't care about D. I haven't seen that. If you bring in an assistant will that make Amar'e finally play defense for 48 mins? would it have made the current roster turn into the Celtics or Bulls? I have serious doubts about that, but perhaps it would help and so how can anyone be against the idea of having a coach with special skills on D on your staff? I personally think it's overstated and typically if you have good defensive players you tend to have good defense.

Exactly. Walsh cant even force D'Antoni to play certain players. I doubt he will force him to actually use a defensive coach.
Unfortunately this is what happens when mulligans and excuses run their course. D'AnToni pretty much has no choice. Funny thing is fans were saying D'AnToni and Dolan were birds of the same feather but now it appears that may not be the case. If he caves to the defensive nudging..... means the organization isn't exactly thrilled with his total approach to coaching which agrees with D'AnToni's detractors. I can see some shady things happening if they don't find a good mix for him. The Lawrence Frank hiring wouldn't be a move with a singular priority, that's a dual motive move. Put 2 and 2 together if accomplished. Not sure if he leaves Boston though if they win it all or get to the Finals. Lawrence Frank is regarded as one of the most PREPARED coaches in the NBA. Talk about New York State of Shock if hired and he comes here witnessing the coaching culture
LMAO...Spit the water I was drinking all over my computer.
Adding a defensive assistant may aquire MDA to alter his offensive philosphy a bit. Quick, long 3's are an enemy of the defensive because it causes too many long rebounds going back the other way and leaves your team out of sorts scarmbling to get back in transition D.
It'll be onteresting t see. This is the second time a GM/Pres has gone to MDA and asked him to add a defensive coordinator, obviously citing deficiencies on the D. This is something his new and some former players have pointed out and what some on this board have suggested.
