"hmmmm" what?

i heard last night that he is the 5th winningest coach in nba history.....mike brown of course, not the moustache

ok, sure, but i don't think most felt that brown was as much responsible for the cavs success as mda was with the suns. if you had mda vs. brown after they both were gone from their previous teams who do you think would be more likely to be hired, or offered more money?

i don't think it's even close, hence why i am questioning the apparent revisionist take on mda vs. brown and the contracts they received.

true brown was fortunate to have bron help in those wins. arguably though, dantoni had nash and stat and a bunch of really solid players around them during that run, while clevaland had lebron and a bunch of scrubs.

There are a couple of things that trouble me about this signing:
1) Kobe wanted Shaw and was pretty open about it, he also endorsed Adelman
2) Brown and Kobe did not speak, they texted after the signing according to Brown - this to me is a major sign of a problem. This is a business, you need to be old school and talk not text or e-mail - I think it says a lot that they didnt speak
3) Filling the shoes of Phil Jackson will not be easy
4) The team seemed to be in some turmoil at the end

That being said, I with him well and I am happy he got the opportunity. He seems like a nice guy but he has his work cut out for him. On the plus side he has worked with a lot of great coaches and he has coached Lebron and been successful so I don't see why he can't keep the Lakeshow running.

Kobe has pouted before and threatened only to remain there and soldier up as a Laker. Buss just sent out the msg Bynum is untouchable I think Kobe understands if he clowns at this stage in his career he'll stand a chance to taint his legacy. Ultimately he's still a little bratty dude

I wonder how he will mix with them..mainly Kobe. It was a Jim Buss hire

Year 4 not guaranteed. About 2.5 mil buy out.

MDA got a bidding war with Bulls for his services.

Mike Brown is well thought of and experienced.

GM's and coaches get better with experience.

Losing is an experience.

Mike Brown won't have the Bron Circus to contend with either.

Jim Buss is riding the Bynum train all the way to where it goes.

I really don't care about the lakers all that much.

With "defense" being all the rage Im all for extending MDA and build this thing full blast and let them stop us!

Chicago plays good defense and I'll take a 62 game season and trip to conf. finals.

MDA has done this with Suns.

Im not saying I don't want better defense but don't go out and get Melo and then start wishing for a Thibs type coach thinking he can play defense. ITs on the players.

Im not hating, but you bring in Melo your priority is not defense. Its hyping the product.

If i'm the Lakers I take a serious look at putting together a package to get Howard. They have the pieces - Odom, Gasol, and Bynum. I don't know how salaries match up but seriously, if you are Orlando you would have to consider a package with at least 2 of those guys considering he could walk and give them nothing.

Talent wise Gasol is one of the best in the game and Bynum is a big who is good when he isn't hurt so from Orlando's perspective I actually think they improve. That team messed up their roster and hasnt been the same since Hedo originally left. Maybe they can dump agent zero on the Lakers.

Just a thought but I could see it happening.

oh this will definitely be talked about by both teams if Howard doesn't extend.

But Howard gotta be careful for a couple of reasons.

I think Orlando would want a package of Gilbert + Howard for Bynum + Gasol + ?. At least the talks will start there. Odom and Turkoglu are seemingly the same player, but perhaps Odom is subbed in.

But here are the problems with the Lakers team after the trade: Kobe will be 33 at the start of this coming season, so perhaps he has 1-2 good years left, tops.

If Gasol is still on team, he and Howard would battle for time in the post, and that would be weird.

And the Lakers still need a PG to get Howard the ball, unless they keep with the triangle.

Would Howard want a team that is capped out and put next to Gasol knowing full well that Kobe is done in 2 years? Team would be toast before you know it and Howard back to square 1 with no one beside him.

Just because Dantoni has one of game's premiere scorers, doesn't mean he can further establish himself more as a non defensive oriented coach. Lame.

Dont mean to be condescending but Howard never appeared to be the intellectual type. He will find it easy to convince himself 2 years with Kobe at his side is all he needs to win 2 chips. Then of course we will trade Landry Fields for Kobe ;)

Actually D'AnToni had better players period at least more All-Star caliber ones

From yahoo.com

Brown said the Lakers would be a “defensive-minded team,” saying “I thrive and I love that end of the floor because I believe that’s what helps you win championships.”

Bryant and his teammates apparently weren’t consulted during the coaching search, and Bryant declined to comment on Brown’s hiring Wednesday when reached by the Los Angeles Times. Bryant publicly supported Shaw, his former Lakers teammate, but the two-time NBA finals MVP also said the Lakers should find a coach who believes in hard-nosed defense.

“I don’t believe in building a championship team on offense,” Bryant said two weeks ago after his exit interview with Lakers brass. “It has to be built on defense and rebounding, period.”

He can't honestly believe defense wins championships.

I'm trying to find the second interview he gave with ESPN because Brown went in on his sell to the Lakers. I can't find it at the moment. He said something about no team ranked below 12th in Team Defense has ever won a championship, can't manage a team without accountability, defense first, and the team must have a clear defensive identity. That was the gist of his sell.

I think he is going to do a great job there.

They need to upgrade their PG situation. D fish shouldn't have this kind of immunity. Kobe Will be hungry coming into the next season.

I've been listening to Mark Jackson and Jeff Van Gundy... to me it seems Mark Jackson is light years behind Jeff in analyzing in-game. Actually Mark doesn't really add anything to the telecast at all. I really don't think he's ready... he seems like he needs to develop a niche and start off as a low level assistant first. From listening to him he doesn't seem like he has any specialty (offense/defense/matchup analysis, etc)
