Knicks · Two weeks to the draft, post your top ten draft board for the Knicks at pick 17 (and maybe buying another later pick) (page 2)

#1 Jeremy Tyler

My reasoning is decent centers never hit free agency and backup combo guards can be traded for.

This guys offensive game is TERRIBLE. However, the guy is too big, too young, and too athletic to pass on at #17.

I understand your point with this kid. I love his size, length and athletic ability. The problem isn't only his offense, but also his maturity and BB IQ. If you try to put him on this team he's gonna end up sitting and that's not good. Who knows how long it will take him to be NBA ready. I don't believe he is right now. That's why I would prefer Vucevic. He's big and skilled. The only thing he can't do is jump thru the roof, but in terms of BB skills, he's got it and should be able to play next season.

Cole Aldrich is way better than Vucevic and Aldrich spent the season in the D-League. I dont see anyone we draft at 17 helping us much next season.

So with that thought process you grab Tyler and have him focus on defense, rebounding, and blocking shots. You cant coach size or natural agility. The guy has 13% body fat while weighing 262lbs and still has a 33 inch vert and 9' 2" standing reach. Did I mention he jumps higher than Javale McGee but carries an additional 20 lbs?

I think teams will be afraid of giving this kid a guaranteed contract, a few years away and may have character issues, he falls to the second round IMO.

Iman Shumpert
Josh Selby
Vucevic
Jajuan Johnson
Chris Singleton
Marshon Brooks
Reggie Jackson

Just cuz Tyler may not be ready to help us doesn't mean that none of the other players we could draft at 17 won't be able to help us. I don't get that logic, being that we got so much out of Fields!!! There are certainly some of these kids that can contribute next year right away. We're mostly talking about role playing. They don't have to carry the team.
I like Tyler as a long term project and if we could grab him with a 2nd rd pick that would be great. He has all the physical tools.

At the moment Id be fine with the following...

1. Jimmer Fredette
2. Josh Selby
3. Bismark Biyombo
4. Iman Shumpert
5. Jeremy Tyler
6. Nolan Smith

Not sure how happy Id be with the rest but I guess Id be okay...
7. Nikola Vucevic
8. Kenneth Faried
9. Marshon Brooks
10. Jon Leuer

Every year guys get hyped on guys that wont be in the league after their rookie deal. Even that massive bust Kwame Brown is still in the league just off his physical attributes.

1) Nikola Vucevic
2) Iman Shumpert
3) Jeremy Tyler
4) Marshon Brooks
5) Darius Morris

if any of the above fall first, would pick them up first, might grab to Centers but not 2 pgs.

Charles Jenkins
Shelby
Darius Morris
Reggie Jackson
Keith Benson

Not sure about "Brazilian Camby" he looks like a boy among men. He looks great in youtube highlights, but saw the interview and he looks like he has a lot of maturing to do on and off the court. Think NYC would be too hard for him for his age. On the court he looks like he can be what we need defensively, because he also has a tough buyout in Europe, I have mixed feelings about him... but depending on what # the pick would be, if a 2nd rounder, who might still be on board, I might roll the dice on him anyway.

I think he's the type of guy you might want to pick up with a purchased #2 and let him mature overseas if you feel he is not ready to play immediately.

He sounds very immature at this point, and seems to have a somewhat elevated opinion of himself, but if he stays in the draft he might be someone to consider. He might also be perfect for our DL team.

1. Kenneth Faried
2. Darius Morris
3. Josh Selby
4. Charles Jenkins
5. Donatas Motiejunas
6. Shelvin Mack
7. Nikola Vucevic
8. Reggie Jackson
9. Chris Singleton
10.Marshon Brooks

I assume Jimmer will be taken by then, but I would put him somewhere in the middle of my wishlist

I guess right now I stand at:

1. Josh Selby
2. Nikola Vucevic
3. Kenneth Faried
4. Darius Morris
5. Jimmer Fredette (like Supreme said, don't expect him to be there)
6. Jeremy Tyler
7. Marshon Brooks
8. Bismack Biyombo (don't really expect him to be on the board either)
9. Reggie Jackson
10. Iman Shumpert

1. Jimmer
2. K. Thompson
3. Marshon Brooks
4. Reggie Jackson
5. Josh Shelby
6. Charles Jenkins
7. Chris Singletary
8. James Tyler
9. Darius Morris
10. Iman Shumpert

I am throwing Jeremy Tyler up at the top of the list. Looks like I was judging his character based upon old info, as well as his prep school video (not more current stuff). And I am a huge Faried fan

Paladin55 wrote:Vucevic (basketball pedigree and advanced skills in a center’s body which is only 20 years old. Biggest concern is his D, but I think he is smart enough to improve his game over time.)

Donatas Motiejunas (Lots of red flags with this guy- especially having to do with effort, but if he was to fall to 17 and Vucevic was gone, he might be worth the risk, especially if we can pick up a guard with a bought pick. Have the Knicks mentioned him or worked him out- or do they expect him to be gone? I expect he is a guy who will give many teams headaches when deciding if he is worth an early pick, but the guy has a fluid offensive game and can shoot with either hand. I would be surprised if he drops to #17.)

Fredette (Doubt if he will fall to #17, but I have doubts about his defensive ability. Have to figure that MDA would like him, but we need some D in the frontcourt, especially a shot blocker, to make me feel good about taking this guy.)

Charles Jenkins (Was here with Shumpert… who did better? I like the local pedigree, but he also seems to have excellent offensive skills, as well, and comes across as an intelligent kid who will adapt his game. A sleeper pick, as some have said, or a stretch?)

R. Jackson (Feel he is similar to Jenkins. If we take Vucevic, he would be a good person with a bought pick. A strange jumper, but folks who criticize it may not remember Magic’s jumper.)

Chris Singleton (I’d like him a lot more if he was about 2 inches taller. Where would he play with the Knicks? We really have to keep Amare at PF this year, and Singleton does not have the size for 5. He would be better on a team with a more developed roster than ours, IMO.)

Iman Shumpert (great athlete- don’t think he can be a PG, and his shooting may be suspect- not my first choice unless they really saw something when he was here. Has the capacity to be a sleeper steal or a bust at #17.)

Marshon Brooks (Not at #17, though. Seems to have enough holes in his game- shot selection- turnover/assist ratio, etc, to make me wonder. Was he just a volume scorer on a poor team?)

Lucas Nogueira (I think he is working out for us. Seems a stretch at #17 unless he really wows the Knicks. Not much complexity in his offensive game at this point from what I saw. Don’t know if he has a buyout clause in his contract. Seems to have some attitude issues from what I have read. Love his shot blocking, though, and he already has a nickname…Bebe, which will make up for us never having a chance to appreciate Nene.) Has dropped out of the draft.

Keith Benson (project pick with a purchased #2. Good candidate for the DL so he can work on his inside game.)

I have to add Klay Thompson if he does end up in play at 17. Seems a great fit offensively... but we still need a big man.

And though I'm not willing to take Tyler at 17, I would hope that Walsh could pick up a late #1 or early #2 and take a shot at him

Yeah, that's what I hope happens. Only difference is I'd be more willing to take Tyler(or Biyombo, Vucevic or whatever bigman is left) at 17 if we can get that extra pick. For the most part, I don't see that big of a drop in talent from some of the guards slated for the late first round and some guys projected in the second round. Of course, that opinion could change if the draft goes crazy and a few players start dropping. DraftX has us picking Alec Burk at 17. I don't see that happening, but we'd have to take him if he's there. The same goes for Donatas Motiejunas.

I actually like this draft. It's not a sexy draft at the top, but all the way thru the draft you can see some solid players to add to the team. Drafts are so much more fun when you aren't looking for a franchise player. I can almost see Donnie taking a big like Vucevic at 17 and then buying a pick to take a kid like Shumpert or Jenkins. I hope i'm not getting my hopes up for Donnie getting a 2nd pick.

Not a deep draft, but definitely wide. The top four seems real solid, but after that, there's drop off. I'd say from five on it's an optimal draft to trade down. The idea martin threw out there with trading for the Bulls picks seems a lot better to me now, and I suspect it would appeal to the Bulls who already have depth... they just need a decent SG and that should be available at our pick

I agree with everything you said. This is a feel-good draft for us and a lot of fun because we aren't looking for a franchise changer like we have every year we've had a pick. We are just looking for a piece to the puzzle. It would be great to find a starter, but at least a rotation player is a must. Klay Thompson is still my top pick, but Shumpert, Vucevic, and Brooks are very intriguing to me. I love being in this situation where we have the stars in place, and are just looking for picks that fit the plan moving forward.

agree with this. i would be thrilled if our draft wound up being vucevic and a guard. or jeremy tyler and a guard. we need a big and a guard.

here's my revised top 5:

1) darius morris
2) nikola vucevic
3) marshon brooks
4) josh selby
5) jeremy tyler

i'm less sold on the idea to bring in a chris singleton or klay thompson - i think the knicks are fine at the swing positions - they need help at 1 and 5.

FIVE POTENTIAL OPTIONS FOR THE KNICKS AT 17

1. MARKIEFF MORRIS, KANSAS

THE SKINNY: Sharpshooting big man could be another Channing Frye next to Amar'e Stoudemire.

2. JOSH SELBY, KANSAS

THE SKINNY: Like Brooks, Selby is a tremendous individual talent, but that still didn't mesh with what surrounded him last season in Lawrence.

3. BISMACK BIYOMBO, CONGO

THE SKINNY: Long big man may not have the offensive polish to contribute right away, but would add rebounding and shotblocking.

4. MARSHON BROOKS, PROVIDENCE

THE SKINNY: Combo guard has great size and can really score it, but will he ever be a part of a winning team?

5. DARIUS MORRIS, MICHIGAN

THE SKINNY: The Big Ten's leader in assists last season could develop into another Derek Harper.
