What do you think? Can this guy continue to be an effective member of congress?

If George Bush can lie about WMD and keep his job, then there's no way Weiner should have to resign.

The media is having a lot of fun with his last name.

During my life the two biggest national political "scandals" were Iran/Contra under Reagan and Bush I, and Bush II's WMD lies and manipulations to get us into Iraq and the Valerie Plame incident, which was tied to the Iraq situation. (I was too young to remember how Johnson used the Gulf of Tonkin incident in 1964, and James K. Polk managed to instigate the Mex/Am War in the 1840s )
These were worse than Nixon's Watergate, and Clinton's Zippergate, but there was never any real action taken against either Bush.
Always easy to come down hard with a moral paddle on the kind of things Weiner did, or on other politicians who become sexually intoxicated with the power they possess, or those who try to benefit financially from their position. The consequences to our political fabric are insignificant, and most can identify with this kind of thing.
Iran Contra and what Baby Bush did after the WTC attack are in another category. Many folks are never able to accept the sheer magnitude of what the 2 Bushes were involved in and what their roles were, and thus there is no real national cry to punish them.
Weiner will probably step down within a month. He will claim that it is not over his inability to do his job in Congress, but that he feels he must repair his personal life first, and that his position in Congress will hinder that, and therefore he will give up his position.

I think he might have some more support from democrats if he had fessed up right away and not claimed that a "hacker" was to blame. Watch the vid and see how vehemently and how often he denied it.
To Paraphrase Richard (Dick) Nixon: "It's not the tweet that gets you. It's the coverup."

Awesome headline! Always can count on the Post for those. There's no way Weiner will be able to stay on for long. It'll just get worse and worse for him untill he quits.
The thing about the scandal is that if he did do something illegal you basically have the girl(and whoever i associated with her) having a congressman in their pockets which hampers his ability to do his job. I'm sure there are seedy types seeking out if he sent anything to minors and trying to get in contac with them in order to blackmail the guy.

He won't be able to handle the storm - both republicans and democrats are after his weiner AND his wife is pregnant!! The negative perception of him alone makes him a liability for the party he is supposed to represent. What a prick!

Ironically, his wife is a top aide to Hillary, who lived through Bill Clinton's horniness when he was a governor and President, and is still with him today.
...and Bill Clinton never stepped down.
