Knicks · Rumor from Francesa: Gasol for Love (page 1)

nyk4ever @ 6/20/2011 5:48 PM
he says the hot rumor around NBA circles is that kobe/gasol can't get along and that there are talks for gasol for love with other pieces involved.

i didn't know things between gasol and kobe were THAT bad although im not surprised. kobe probably gave it to him good after he didn't show up these playoffs because of his personal stuff.

nyk4ever @ 6/20/2011 5:51 PM
seems to me like a tough trade to complete since love makes about 14million less than gasol and i can't see the wolves wanting to give up alot of those pieces, who knows...
Solace @ 6/20/2011 5:51 PM
Minnesota would have to be idiots to do this. Pau Gasol is 8 years older and they are rebuilding. I call bogus. This would be the most nonsensical trade in the history of the NBA if it were true.
Nalod @ 6/20/2011 6:06 PM
Two Spaniards in Minny! Menudo Ricky and Pau!

Good move for Lakes, they got stones!

Minny could elevate quickly!

GustavBahler @ 6/20/2011 6:17 PM
I might have done that deal after the Laker's last championship, but Love put up some sick numbers last year. I'm pretty sure Kobe would be thrilled.
Paladin55 @ 6/20/2011 7:35 PM
So the Lakers would be one Andrew Bynum knee from having their big men on the front line being Odom and Love?

Does this mean that Dwight Howard is in their sights? The Lakers would have to wait until after this season for his option year, assuming there are no significant changes in a new CBA, and Kobe is not exactly getting any younger.

Love needs protection next to him because of his defensive deficiencies.

Interesting trade for Minny.

For all the lovers of Love, how many wins have they had since they picked him up? I like him a lot on the offensive end, and he is obviously a great rebounder, but there is a reason why Minnesota once again has a high pick in the draft, and why they will probably take a player who plays the same position as Love does on draft day.

CrushAlot @ 6/20/2011 8:05 PM
Probballdraft is reporting that the Lakers and Minny are discussing the Lamar Odom for the second pick.

LOL, that's pretty good. not trying to defend francesa, but... although he doesn't talk about the nba all that much (he did do alot of it this year for the knicks) he still does have very good sources.

Minny is under the cap so they don't have to match salaries. If I were Minny, I would ask for another young player or draft pick with Gasol.

Why would Minnesota do that? Strange stuff coming from out West and the North.

And what assets would they use for Dwight once they trade Gasol?

CrushAlot @ 6/20/2011 8:41 PM
Darko, Flynn, Ridnour and Love for Gasol works on the trade checker.

Trade ID #5902601

Don't know... they sure as heck would not have much to give up at that point, but maybe they just wait it out, pray that Bynum stays healthy and works well with Love, and then pick up Howard when he declines to exercise his option with Orlando.

Glad Kahn realized you cant be in the lottery EVERY single year.

Kahn also rumored to be entertaining trading the 2nd pick for Andrew Bogut.

A front court of Andrew Bogut and Pau Gasol would be a definite upgrade.

Expect it would be one or the other... not both. No?

Gasol was getting called out by Phil Jackson in this year's playoffs for poor defense and he didn't respond. Love just broke Moses Malone's double double record. You saw what he did to the Knicks. Love is only 22 Gasol is 30 and flaked out in the playoffs. Sounds like you're putting their losses squarely on Love. Instead of replacing him, better to surround Love with more talent. If Gasol was somehow the missing piece to turn them into serious contenders I'd understand the logic.

Gasol is about to start declining. Didn't seem to do anything of note in the playoffs. This would be an absolute heist for the Lakers

So in essence, you're asking, "What's Love got to do with it?"

Nah- I know their losses are not only due to Love, but neither was he good enough help them get out of the lottery.

Who do you look at to blame on Minnesota, though? You can take individuals from that team and claim they had decent seasons, but in the end, the team still sucked, and Love was a major player.

I would not mind Love on the Knicks, but on any team he plays for you have to have the right people surrounding him.

Maybe Minnesota feels Love wants to leave, and is trying to get something back for him by trading him to a team he will probably want to stay with, which has the ability to resign him.

Minnesota also gets a big man in decline who will be united with his countryman, Rubio, and help Ricky become acclimated in the U.S..

Lol Paladin. I blame Khan for having a lifetime subscription to "Guard Fancy". Rambis didn't get the players to buy into his system. Their backcourt wasn't stellar. Players take their share of the blame that includes Love, just not the lionshare.

I don't believe Minny expected Love to put up the numbers he did last season when he was brought to the Wolves (20/15) I know I didn't. I don't believe Love had enough help.

You might be on to something about Rubio which feeds into Khan's passion for guards (to put it nicely) but why go through the trouble to coddle a kid who couldn't sniff the starting lineup in Europe? If he had shown something his rookie season here, I could buy into that. You might be right that Love wants to leave, he didn't get along with Rambis from what I've read. I'd show Rambis the door if its between Love and him. Rambis didn't show anything last season.

The Grizz couldn't get out of the first round while Gasol was the focal point of the offense, I'm not sure if he can be the man at 30. Their wins could spike a bit with Gasol there but like I said they aren't contending any time soon, better to build a more balanced squad with Love IMO. Deal makes great sense for the Lakers though. With Kobe on the floor Love probably won't put up the same numbers but I'm pretty sure he will clean up the boards and get his share of put backs. They might also get Flynn which would help them get younger in the backcourt.
