Knicks · Knicks interested in Kwayne Brown (page 1)

Mray20 @ 6/28/2011 6:15 PM
Here's what Stephen A Smith had to say about it lol
ATrain @ 6/28/2011 6:40 PM
Damn, he has me thinking..a little belly? Are we resigning Eddy Curry?
Childs2Dudley @ 6/28/2011 6:42 PM
Stephen A Smith is one of the stupidest people on the face of the Earth.
skeng @ 6/28/2011 7:09 PM
So he expects all 7 footers to rebound in double digits? I don't get it?
skeng @ 6/28/2011 7:10 PM
And wouldn't mind kwame brown for limited minutes.
crzymdups @ 6/28/2011 7:20 PM
i don't want kwame. but i don't respect stephen a smith all that much.
babyKnicks @ 6/28/2011 8:24 PM
Hater thread. May want to lock it while we can. :-)
Solace @ 6/28/2011 8:30 PM
Kwame is not that good. That being said, what is Screamin' A smoking on this one? At best, he's getting what, $3 million on a one year deal? I can live with that, as a stopgap. Let's not go crazy. He also fails to mention that Kwame's 5.6 career rebounds is an average of 22 minutes. It's not like he's playing 35 mpg and putting up that. I'm okay with a one year Kwame rental.
knicks1248 @ 6/28/2011 9:11 PM
Is stephen a like the black skip bayless
y2zipper @ 6/28/2011 9:34 PM
Look, it's a one year stop-gap. Nobody's saying Kwame's great, but Smith isn't taking the situation into context.

We know what the endgame is for New York: save enough space for Chris Paul/Dwight Howard in the offseason while fielding a competitive team this year. That means one year deals only, and it's not like there's a starting C available that fits.

metra @ 6/28/2011 10:56 PM
No to "Kwayne", no to Stephen A.

But seriously, even if Kwame is cheap I feel like he'd be a bad locker room presence. We need dudes who want to win. Kwame doesn't really give me that impression.

RonRon @ 6/28/2011 11:03 PM
Sean Williams
Greg Foster
Greg Smith

If they aren't looking to use the MLE, I would be happy if the Knicks grab 2 of these player in addition to Jerome Jordan and the rest of or roster.
I don't mind grabbing all 3 but someone wouldn't be playing if they did...

knickstorrents @ 6/28/2011 11:05 PM
Since we're following the lame Miami blueprint, if we can't get a center as good as Joel Anthony for what Miami is paying him (avg of 3.5 million) then it's not worth it.

None of the names mentioned so far strike me as being better than Joel Anthony, or even just as good.

I like that list. I think someone is going to steal Sean Williams. He was already a talent and seems to have his head on straight. Smith has tremendous physical gifts. If he can achieve half of his potential he would be productive.

Greg Foster?

arkrud @ 6/29/2011 12:10 AM
Kkkkwaaammeeeeee....
RonRon @ 6/29/2011 12:35 AM
In fact, I like

Sean Williams
Greg Foster
Greg Smith

so much, I would sign them 2/3 at 3 year contracts at good deals. We can't afford to find a gem in the system and have them bolt the next season.
I am not saying to over pay for them. But to sign Sean Williams and Greg Smith to 3 year deals at 1-2m. And Greg Foster At slightly more than the veteran minimum, wouldn't hurt our cap at going for a 3rd star yet, would give us insurance at solid role players that can play the PF and center.

Like him or not Brown is probably our best option. Good athlete, good defender, good rebounder. But there are others i wouldn't be opposed to either, such as Aaron Gray or Nazr Mohammed.

I think I had posted this before, but let me do it again.

Sean Williams is more brain dead than AR. Although an athletic freak, the guy just doesn't have much going on upstairs.

On an odd weekend some time over the past 6 months I caught the last 10 minutes of a Dleague game while flipping through channels. I think it was 4th quarter of a tight game. Williams was in the game and was a little miffed about a call or 2 (not really sure if he had a legit beef) but he was determined to show the refs up to the utter detriment of his team. And then proceeded to play like crap and was eventually pulled.

Dude has about zero IQ and sense of awareness. He'll be lucky to get an NBA invite and GMs and coaches are well aware of his attitude, which is of a young, immature boy who may never grow up, and that adds up being too much to bother for any NBA coach.

Don't hold your breath on him.

RonRon @ 6/29/2011 12:42 PM
There are reasons why he doesn't have a NBA contract. He is a poor mans Samuel Dalembert, that is the type of player that would enable us to get stops and start a fast break.
That is why I don't want to give him a 1 year contract. He would feel like he has to put up numbers just like Anthony Randolph. He is still the best combination of long, athletic, agile, and will provide rebounding, shot blocking, and help defense. He would be the best player that can provide this for over 10 years.

He can instantly become a fan favorite and if he the physical skills for the rebounding, shot blocking, and help defense we haven't had for over 10+ years. He will need someone to keep him in check, but I feel we have to roll a dice on him because he has the game we desperately need. It is a low risk and high reward. Maybe a 3 year deal in which we have the 3rd year team option. We need his

Aaron Gray is another big boy, Josh Herrollson can learn of. Greg Foster is the blue collar garbage man that plays that same role. Kurt Thomas is a solid player. However, he isn't a shot blocking at all. I wouldn't mind Kurt Thomas and his 1 inch vertical because he can be a great locker room player, and can physically and verbally be a player/coach at the defensive end.

Bllups
Fields
Melo
Amare
Jerome Jordan

Turiaf
TD
Shumpert
Shawn WIlliams *if we can resign*
Josh Harrellson
Balkman
Rautins
Walker * 1m team option*

So possible 2/maybe 3 if we don't extend Bill Walker. We need 15 spots on our roster and we can put 1 person in the D league? Does he count as a roster spot until we call him back?
Possibles
With Donnie saying he isn't looking to sign more than 1 year deals or do have enough salary to sign a 3rd max player next summer...
We have to sign players and fill our holes with the minimum. We obviously have holes to fill but it would be hard to sign players if we are lowballing them for money and years. I think we have to be able to offer more years for a chance to get some useful role players.

Juylan Stone/ Ben Hansborough/ Anthony Parker
Sean Williams *Greg Smith*
Aaron Gray *greg foster* *Kurt Thomas* *Reggie Evans*

for next summer, I would prefer Dwight Howard, if we get Cp3 or Deron Williams, we would have to sign a center. For a decent player we would have to probably wait for 2013 summer to use the MLE. I am not sure if Amare and even Melo would be still great players as they were or will be on a great downfall by then.

I am not sure by then if we can't sign Dwight, would we be better off with a Center like

Duncan
Gasol
DeAndre Jordan
or even Chris Kaman

rather than a max contract to

Cp3
Deron WIlliams.

Would it be more cost efficient to sign

Kaman and Mo Williams

I would love to be able to add

Ray Allen
KG

I think a Dwight Howard signing would intrigue Ray and KG over.
Do you guys think Cp3 or Deron could have the same effect?
I think if Shumpert shows he can become a solid PG, would we be better off going for a center instead?
I think Duncan is on his last contract but he is still a top defensive center in the league. I wouldn't look to pay him max but if we can add him with still enough to offer 3m to
Ray Allen and KG at 3-5 more years, would it be enough to add their talents?
