So in a few months will it be all the US folks asking our European & Asian UK contingient for streaming links so we can watch our favorite players at awkward times of the day or night?

LOL!!!!!!!!! Havent thought about this!!!!! Love it!!!

He's this desperate for quality burn, or is he this desperate for cash? He made $16 million last year. You do the math.

You need to go to Turkey to prove a point? Watch some psycho bruiser low bridge him and end his career.

Stupid.

OasisBU @ 7/7/2011 3:42 PM
Stern giving the thumbs up sounds a lot like the NBA trying to make it's brand more international by renting out it's stars to other leagues while this contract dispute is settled in the US.

Once the Euro's become more familiar with the players here and see them on their squad - they are more likely to continue following them once they go back to the NBA. In addition, the odds of international league expansion improve.

I actually think it works out well for the league although we suffer through a lockout.

Maybe he wants control of his destiny and not sit around the States in his prime "working out"? Being the first guy to say "whatever, I'm still gonna ball" is admirable to me.

OK jrodmc, what is the difference if gets a serious injury in Turkish pro ball vs. some psycho bruiser scrub in a NBA preseason game? Hell, you can injure yourself falling down the stairs or playing with your kid. Injuries are part of life and the game, should he stay in a bubble until the lockout ends and he's one year older?

TheGame wrote:This is huge news. If more NBA players go overseas the owners will have to start worrying for two reasons: (1) European basketball has grown considerably over the last 20 years and while the recession hurt those leagues, it is not unreasonable to assume that they while start to really challenge the NBA in the next 15 years for top talent. If there is a mass exodus of NBA players going to Europe that will only make it easier for future NBA players to see Europe as a solid option and it will make European teams go after NBA players even harder in the future. I think the NBA would like its status as the supreme basketball league to remain unchallenged for a few more decades and moves like this will not help in that cause; and (2) the main stick the owners have is that NBA players will run out of money. If a good percentage of the NBA players can get jobs in Europe, the players will not be as pressed to accept the owners' terms, and while there are some teams losing money, I think most teams make money or get other benefits from the NBA. If the players are willing to sit out the entire year, I think that really hurts the owners as much as the players and it will hopefully get the owners to move off of their stance and more toward the middle.

I think the players made the owners a fair offer, and are willing to give a little more. It is up to the owners to start making real concessions and to look to revenue-sharing as an additional means to help small market teams.

There won't be any mass exodus. Sure, Deron can go to Europe, but he's a star player. The players that will run out of money are the average players who won't get jobs in Europe and who don't make 16 mil a year in the NBA.

Don't you see it man? He is fighting against the system and he is obviously, a bad teammate. If he gets bruised by the psycho he becomes the worst teammate because he cannot play. He is leaving his team, the Nets hanging in the wind, waiting to dry, what a crappy teammate. More so, using that logic, you can say that he became a worse PG because he chose to jeopardize his health and therefore he is a bad teammate. As everyone knows, PG is the one position where being a teammate is super important, so him being a bad teammate(by some dumb logic) = him being a worse PG. Him going to a diff league makes him a worse PG.

Nalod, as you might have noticed, I disagree with you and I am using this here to prove to you that you are wrong.

Star players are worth more than their salaries. This might be the 'hidden' point Deron is trying to prove. All star players can play overseas (although for less money, they can still make a comfortable living). If the league comes back and none of the star players come back, guess what, no one will watch the NBA, no one will buy tickets, no one will watch the games.

We'll all be watching euro basketball to see our favorite players play.

The rank and file nba players may vote to end the lockout, but if there are no star players playing, no one will care that the lockout is over.

BigDaddyG @ 7/7/2011 11:52 PM
Doe Prokorov still own a team in Russia?Let's say he wanted look out and offer Deron Williams an easy gig overseas that allowed Williams to make money, but come back when the lockout ended. Are there any provisions out there to prevent Williams from making the backdoor cut to Prokorov's other team?
Bonn1997 @ 7/8/2011 7:32 AM
The players are not replaceable. The owners are. There aren't dozens of Deron Williams or Lebron James replacements hanging around but there are plenty of people who can run professional sports team.

Nalod, as you might have noticed, I disagree with you and I am using this here to prove to you that you are wrong.

I'll do this one more time.

A player gets injured even if an act of stupidity:

1. He travels with the team and attends practice. He goes to games and is there for pregame and post game. He is at the coaches meetings, watching tape, working with Assistant coaches. He is with the team. He is being paid. He is a teammate. He is in the locker room. He might be yelling encouragement, he is there to cry, laugh, and scream with his team mates.

A suspended player:

1. Is not with the team at all. He is not traveling, not at practice, not exposed to the players, the coaches, coaches meetings, not in the locker room with the other players, he is not learning the new players, not learning with the team.

Why does this matter? Well all players sign a contract which they accept the rules. You know when Spree turned down the 7 mil for 3 years I actually respected him because he finally showed he did not want to do it anymore. That was ok and I wish more players would do that. But when Spree would miss camp because of legal problems, or was delayed driving cross country, or what ever reason it sent a message to other players not positive. They were all in shape ready to go to camp, they had settled any legal problems, transportation problems, or what ever and got there. Tell you what, go to work and maybe there are three of you doing the same job, all getting paid the same. Say one guy is always late, misses meetings, takes random days off....and then cuz he is not up to speed he makes you look bad, or is not prepared, and you have to help him all the time. And again, he gets paid the same as you! How would you feel? Then there is the other guy who got hurt but he is remoting into work, able to listen in on conference calls and up on his e-mails. he is not there but is up on all that is going on. Once he returns his is up to speed on things.

So missing games is one thing. Being a part of the team is another.

If a player has a solid reputation I would imagine one instance is ok. If habitual then its a problem. It can divide your locker room and it effects play when a player is not up on the pulse of the team.

If you don't agree with this, thats ok.

Does not make you a bad poster!

Going to Turkey is controlling your destiny? Is that really a destination anyone gives a sh&t about? You can't ball without getting paid by some stupid foreign country B league? Where's your effing patriotism man?

If I have to explain the difference between Turkish pro ball and the NBA preseason to you, sorry, but you're not worth talking to. Other players are organizing themselves and working out, which would include, I might hazard a guess, balling. Last I checked, there wasn't a law against balling right here in the US. For free.
