Wondering who thinks a deal involving Shumpert for Cp3 would still be a good acquisition?
Personally, if you were GM would you pull the trigger?
I think its a pretty close call.
I have to wait to see Shumpert in action before I made the call but I don't see it as much do move. How he gels with the team, playing versus NBA talents, performs in pressure situations, and how he looks as he develops along the year. Shows he is able to become a PG for years to come, I don't think I would pull it. Because I think he can be a lockdown defender already with freakish athleticism and explosiveness. So that would be the 2 way player we have been seeking for along. He will always have an edge over our opponents if he plays PG and can be very utilized in guarding 3 positions. Sometimes he can be asked the guard the toughest player but sometimes he can be asked to guard the easiest player too. It would enable him to rest and he can cheat and probably guard his player and help better than anyone we have.
I think adding Cp3 at minimum would make us a top 4 team to beat in the East, of course assuming everyone stays healthy.
He would make us much more efficient offensively and is also a great free throw shooter. I just don't think we would be enough defensively at the SG/C and bench positions. We wouldn't be able to upgrade our talent with all of our payroll on 3 players either.
I wonder what the Knicks office thinks about it. If NO was going to pull the trigger to Cp3 to New York, I assume Shumpert will be at least one of the pieces we would be asked to give back. New York is built to win now mode, so for their arguement sakes. They would say they love the Shumpert but feel they had to add a player of Cp3's caliber added to our core.
If we do not trade for Cp3, would you still sign him on the roster?
I personally feel we should add a Center of a higher caliber. But no one knows how Jordan and Jorts will be and they might feel it would be enough.
The only one player I wouldn't hesitate to add is Dwight Howard. Which probably is a no brainer anyway.
I wonder if we would be able to add a player like Matt Gasol or Deandre Jordan, at under the max. And still have enough to add a spot or 2.
With Ray Allen, Steve Nash, and a couple of other good veterans.
Some Young centers that will probably get a big bulk if not max
Matt Gasol *unrestricted*
Deandre Jordan *unrestricted*
McGee *restricted*
Hibbert *restricted*
Bynum *team option*
Or going for a combination of lower talent like
Kaman
Spencer Hawes
Thompson
the reduced
Duncan
Camby
KG
Ray Allen
Terry
Nash
Billups
Kidd
Andre Miller
Felton
*Gallo* restricted

there is a big list to choose from but we do have options.
If the Larry Bird Exception is actually going to be limited to one player per season during this proposal. KG and Ray Allen both come off the same years, so they would have to break off their big 4.
I think we got really lucky in drafting a player with such high ceiling like Shumpert, especially at our pick. It gives us much more flexability if he shows he can possibly be continues to show that he can be a star. If he does show he can be that possible star I am hyping up. I wouldn't like to trade him, for Cp3. But a player like Shumpert can make the Garden ROAR with his dunks and defensive intensity. I think we are just better off waiting it out and looking to improve in the summer rather than trade in the middle of the year.
