Knicks · NBPA & Owners Mega-Meeting w/ Mediator Going for 8+ Hours (page 2)

Seems like nothing much to report except that they will meet again tomorrow. It all seems like good news as long as they keep talking.

If they canceled the whole season but then announced that the NBA would truly be a free market, I'd be in heaven!

Well, technically they have to match only within a certain percentage. I think it's 25%. It is super annoying. I would like to get rid of all caps and have luxury tax be the only deterrent. A percentage of money going to luxury tax is really all that's required. I think it's unfair that a large market like NY is at a disadvantage, due to having a low salary cap because other teams aren't making enough money, combined with one of the highest tax rates in the country. Why would someone sign in NY with the taxes here, when they can make 10% more off the same salary in Florida or Texas? That's the sad part of the current CBA cap situation: The states with the highest taxes are actually at a disadvantage.

It's not unfair that large market teams should have a little bit of an advantage, when they are also bringing the sport the most money and the most fans.

Nalod @ 10/19/2011 10:02 PM
I wish our Management would make better decisions about player development and not have to worry about florida income tax.

If the season gets started we gotta be ready lament and complain! We are not in shape!

Who plays center? Shump any good? I know we all WANT to love him. Is Rautins a player?

yeah, i know it's not exact matching. in fact, they loosened it up from the original restrictions set by the CBA prior to last. which i believe required salaries to fall within 10% of each other. i just think it's all dumb. i bet if we looked closely we could uncover countless trades that would have been win-win for both teams had they not been hamstrung by that nonsense rule. i know the principle behind the rule, but i think it does more harm than good.

I think the number 1's would be in 2016 and 2018 unless the new cba allows teams to trade consecutive picks.

Not ever. We just wait for him to become a FA. Phuck all this trading the team crap. Been thereand done that with Melo. Led to a first round exit.

Reporters on twitter saying that Stern will not be at todays negotiating session because he has the flu.

We heard the same thing about melo too. I doubt Dolan has the patience to wait 'til free agency.

I'm not praising Isiah but Dolan is the constant in the organization's impulsive decision-making.

Shame on the Onwers and Players for not being able to work things out over the course of these 3 days. They say that they're still too far apart and I have to say how the heck they can't find compromise enough to get the deal done. UNBELIEVABLE!!! This is an unacceptable result when so many in this country don't have the luxury of arguing over how to share 4 billion dollars. It doesn't make any sense.

Billy Hunter saying again that this whole process was "pre-ordained" to break the union. Says owners gave union "ultimatum" on 50-50 split.

Stern didn't go to the negotiation this afternoon. "Home sick with the flu." ... Because he knew what was coming and probably disgusted with the owners. Paul Allen showed up to his first meeting today because he felt Stern had given up too much in negotiations. This crap is rigged. The owners are totally willing to blow up the season. Long winter, fellows. I don't see a deal happening.

Hunter is saying that the big market owners want to make a deal but don't have enough support to win a vote.

Dolan would have taken a deal with 99% BRI in favor of players. He doesn't care.

Hunter: "We're not having a meeting tomorrow because they told us no way." ..They said if we meet there's got to be a precondition of 50-50.
