Knicks · Is Melo a new superstar, pretentious or a narcissist (page 3)

The team should be .500??? You don't have a "basis" to say if this works or not? How about your general knowledge of the game of BB? You think a team with STAT and Melo on it isn't going to be successful? Just the 2 of them alone will avg half the teams points. Very rare that a team with 2 All Stars in their primes won't be successful. IMO Knick fans should be ecstatic about the team at this point.Nalod wrote:We had a unit of players out there who were doing well and playing as a unit. It was fun to watch. Melo is one of the bet SF's in the NBA. I'd count only Lebron as better in the East.Billups is still a top player. His production is still very high. Despite being 35!

No, it was a work in progress anchored by Superstar Stat. As I said, it could have led to deal at fair price with Deron.
So no, it was not the end product nor was I under the illusion it was.
What it was? A pretty balanced team playing team ball with young players with upside. Not so terrible was it?
Ain't like Donnie was so impressed with the trade he wanted to stick around and keep working.

You've said the same thing every day since 10/5/2004. I'll believe it when I see it.
You do realize that the LAMEST thing anyone can do is just bring up the fact that i'm a bit more positive in my predictions than most? Go back and look and i'm not the only one who has had predictions of a more positive nature. Most of the time the predictions were backed up by pro analysts too. Also predictions are relative. It's not like i've said the team will win the title every year. Most of the time we've been talking win/loss and i've just been a few more wins than everybody else!
You know what tho... none of that has ANYTHING to do with the current team so you can just shove all that nonsense. Come back with something substantial to back up your point of view!!! If you don't have anything serious to say, shut up and keep the lame comments and attacks to yourself.
And now for Nalod:

You are another one who brings NOTHING to the table in your comments. Exactly what did I write about Melo that wasn't true? The fact that he's one of the top players at his position in the East? the fact that he goes toe to toe with the best players in the league and has no fear of going against those guys? When we play teams with top players like Lebron or Kobe, Melo does give this team a player that can match those guys. What did I say about STAT that was off base? Now having 2 players that are as good as they are does push this team up into a level above being a mediocre .500 team. You don't have to be an optimistic homer to believe this team is much improved with those players.
I don't believe this team is as bad as it looked when they went only 14-18 to end the season. I believe that with CB, STAT and Melo healthy this team is going to be one of the top teams in the East.
I think the players are too good to play like that over the course of a season after having a chance to develop chemistry and get on the same page. You're going to have to do better than calling me names to actually prove your point that this team won't be as good as I believe they will be. SO like Bonn1997 come with something more substantial than names to prove your point or shut up!
Melo is a NY type dude as is Stat which, imo is even better.
We are fixated on Melo but I hope someone in management is fixated on a center and backup point guard. That's where our biggest need and weaknesses are. The forward position are great.
I don't believe this team is as bad as it looked when they went only 14-18 to end the season. I believe that with CB, STAT and Melo healthy this team is going to be one of the top teams in the East.
Lot of substance right there! Keen and insightful with a perspective only an true insider could provide!
Prove my point? If past is not the future, then we have to have games to do so. Nothing to prove. But what we want and what is does not always add up.
IF I look at the roster we don't know who is starting do we at one guard spot or at Center.
I think, I believe, I hope is the team that core should be pretty good.
Like I said, I am truly confident in the 3and4 spots but at Billups age we need a decent backup. Douglas has zero point guard skills. Mason was putrid and didn't show any point guard skills either.
I remember how good Rautins looks playing for his home country. I felt he should have been given a chance last season to show what he can do. He never really got a fair chance. People were calling him garbage without really seeing what he could give.
Well we pretty much do know who is starting at the point.
I think the issue Nalod had in mind was that on any given night it's probably 50/50 whether Billups will start or be in street clothes.
MS wrote:Always good to debate a guy that has no idea what he is talking about. He is a volume scorer that plays one on one basketball learning an offense has no bearing on whether he gets his points or not. He's not the point guard, let's not act like the Knicks run a complicated offense.Carmelo single handedly kept us in those playoff games, if you mean Game 2?
Game 1 (5-18) he missed 10/11 shots in the second half including the game winner not to mention took the ball out of Amare's hands the guy that carried the team the entire game. Game 3 he shot 4-16 with 5 turnovers. He played well in game 4, but to say he carried the team when he didn't show up for 2/4 playoff games is a joke.
planned on getting back to you :) Amare gets a pass for his injury but we ream Melo who's elbow was so bad he needed surgery...and not just his elbow so, what he did to me was even more impressive.
Yeah Game one was bad but that's why we have 2 elite players.
Game 2 Melo had 42 point 17rebounds but missed the potential game winner. Hell of a performance. Game 3 with NO STAT AND OUR GUTTED CORE (was Billups even there for game 3either). Poor Melo couldn't beat Boston without his key pieces. How terrible he must be.
Without Stat there it allowed Boston to key on the only offensive threat on the floor..MELO
Game 4 he had another good game carrying us with a very tight still injured Amare giving a laudable effort to be out there.
Seems like your stretching things to prove your point about him not showing up. If Amare had played in Game 3 who knows what he could have done but with no Amare or Billups Melo was a man easy to isolate and defend.
He's a great regular season scorer. He has monster rebounding games that inflate his averages. He can certainly hit big shots as well.
He's a terrible defender. His scoring doesnt generate open shots for teammates. His total lack of defense (now we can blame MDA for this) ensures that he will always be outplayed by the other team's big gun.
Melo can score. Dont take that away from him and dont dismiss it because of his pedestrian shooting %s. Scoring is important and so is having a go-to scorer (didnt Amare prove he could be that????)
Melo is a good player. But he's a top 25 player, not a top 10 player. Not a guy you trade your whole roster for. Not a guy who carries you to playoff wins
At this point in his career is Melo any better than Glen Robinson? Melo is great if your into fantasy sports.
Melo has locked us into a 45-50 win (not bad) and at best a 2nd round playoff team for the forseeable future.
Yes... the Melo lovers can remind us all day about winning 30 games. Very exciting times.
The Knicks only chance to compete at a high level built around this guy is for some mid to low range draft pick to magically become a star. Lets hope Shumpert is the next Rondo and Toney Douglas is the next Jason Terry and the big ugly white guy is the next Brad Miller and Fields is the next Rick Fox and Bill Walker is the next Kendal Gill and Andy Rautins is the next Shaq.
If those things happen (hey.. its possible, nixluva says it has a shot) then we can definatly win a title w/ Melo
Bonn1997 wrote:It was pretty clear from watching them that Amare's injury was affecting him more than Carmelo's injury was affecting him. Who knows - it wouldn't surprise me if Amare has had 5 or 6 surgeries this off-season!

He should be the 3rd big off the bench.Rautins was horrible in the summer league of '10. Generally guards do very well there and he was competing against a lower level of competition. In regards to Moz you know he is gone in the Melo trade right?Like I said, I am truly confident in the 3and4 spots but at Billups age we need a decent backup. Douglas has zero point guard skills. Is melo a star or a celeberty?
1. Get an apprentice at PG to take the reigns from Billups after this year. TD is not the answer. It looks like Iman might have a chance.
2. We need a SG that can spot up and spread the floor for Melo and Stat. I am hoping Landry, TD and Iman can do this...If not then we need to get one.
3. We need a stud center that block shots and rebounds. This is a must.
Goddamit! Start the season already!

lots of guys do poor in summer league. That is a poor barometer of how good a guy could be, not to mention I'm sure he worked on his game. He sure looked better in international play than he did in college so, there has been improvement.
DurzoBlint wrote:also, what have the fans been shown regarding Rautins. The guy pretty much rotted on the bench because he had guys like Brick Mason ahead of him.I think Rautins is a high character guy with a good outside shot. He also played four years and I think that was what Walsh was looking for when he took Landry and Rautins. However, Rautins at the time was not rated as even being a second round pick in many mock drafts. And you are right, the only action Knicks fans have seen him is the summer league where he looked like he didn't fit and minimally needed a year in the d-league. Considering his age, I am not sure how much upside he has.
