Knicks · Yahoo Sports: Chris Paul Requests Trade to Knicks (page 4)
Bonn1997 wrote:Stern should deal him to whatever team offers the most. It's worth offering Bynum and 2 first round picks for LA. If he spends a whole season in LA, the fans admire and love him, and he wins a championship, you think he's going to leave to come to play with Carmelo and Amare? It's a worthwhile gamble for the Lakers and it's more than anything we could offer.
Lakers picks are poop and they need Bynum(whom they love) more than Paul. PG in the triangle is the least important for them. Fisher is just fine.

No, they just bluff. Some fans here bought it but Stern won't.
Also, any team that trades for Paul will spend the rest of the season trying to change his mind on an extension. If that doesn't work, they will do an S & T with him to the team of his choosing. They won't just lose him. He'll do the S & T because he can get much more money that way.
Actually you're wrong. I think what you meant to say was that CP3 would opt out of his final year, become a FA then agree to sign as a Free Agent with the team he is traded to. He would make more money signing a Free Agent contract than he would doing an Extend and Trade.
What nobody also seems to realize is this: Under the new CBA, the maximum amount of years ANY team can offer ANY player in an EXTENSION—whether they have Bird Rights or not—is three additional years. In Paul’s case, an extension with the Hornets can be, at most three more years. The terms? Three additional years at $56 million.* Extend-and-Trade Max: two years, $35 million
* Bird Extend Max: three years, $56 millionBut here’s the most important thing that nobody seems to realize: The most lucrative option for ANY player, based on the new CBA, is to become a free agent and re-sign with the team that holds their Bird Rights. That’s the only way to get the fifth guaranteed year… If he wants to leave New Orleans, he could force a trade to the team of his choice, without the extension, and then opt out at the end of this season and become an unrestricted free agent. Since Bird Rights travel with a player who is traded, his new team would have his Bird Rights when he becomes a free agent and could sign him for his Bird Max.
So yes Paul isn't likely to walk away from his Bird rights. This will all come down to how much LA, LAC, BOS etc really want Paul. I believe Paul will indeed walk away from a deal with a team he doesn't want to be with, but good teams with a chance to win stand a great chance of being able to convince him to stay. I'm not believing BOS fits that category tho. Perhaps the Lakers tho i'd have to see what they'd have left after the trade. Not sure the LAC's actually want CP3. I think LAC is after Howard. We'll see.

Isn't that what I said? I just didn't mention the intermediate step of opting out.

Phil Jackson is no longer coaching the Lakers. They may or may not use a triangle offense. It's faulty reasoning though to assume that because Phil Jackson's past teams have won championships with mediocre PGs, the triangle offense works better with a mediocre than an excellent PG.

You said Sign and Trade and that's not the same as getting traded, then opting out and signing as a Free Agent at the end of the season. A sign and trade would involve him getting an extension from the Hornets and then being traded. That would be a shorter contract under the new rules.
Atlanta
C Emeka Okafor
F Al Horford
F Trevor Ariza
G Joe Johnson
G Chris Paul
New Orleans
C Zaza Pachulia
F Josh Smith
F Marvin Williams
G Jarrett Jack
G Kirk Hinrich
I'd do this trade even with no guarantee of him resigning.

Can't he opt out and then be involved in an S & T? After he opts out, the team still retains his Bird rights (unless that was changed in the new CBA).

Yea the owners took that option away too. If he opts out and then signs he has to wait 6 months before they can trade him. The owners tried as hard as they could to outlaw these kinds of deals. They didn't get everything they wanted, but they did make it harder.

Stern wants nothing more than for the Knicks to be a success again. Anytime NY is winning it's gonna mean increased viewership. There are Knick fans everywhere. Here in the south we drown out Hawks fans when the Knicks are in town. There are tons of NY'ers in Florida too. It's in the best interests of the league for the huge NY market to be excited about NBA BB. The only ones against this are the small market owners.

Seems logical, and yet Stern always seems to me to be a Knick hater.
Stern really a "Hater" or is the simple plain truth is we create the scenarios that are labeled "hate"?
Reality is we deserve most of the hate.
Winning de-solves hate. Nothing more.

I've tried to forget that painful situation. Stern was trying to send a message with the new rules.
In any event Stern and NO won't have much choice if a better deal doesn't develop with a winning team like the Lakers. They'll have to do some kind of deal with the Knicks cuz if LA doesn't want CP3 there aren't many teams that CP3 will sign with IMO. He doesn't want to go to BOS cuz they are very close to rebuilding. I think LAC wants to go after Howard.
Thing to remember is that many teams will be scared off by the Knee issues CP3 has. Why go after him when you can go after fully healthy Howard or Deron? This is going to be interesting to watch unfold.

Because that is what he and Melo want. And Melo I venture is used to getting his way.

I was talking about OTHER teams beside the Knicks. The Knicks have proven they will be more than willing to take a player with some injury history. I don't think some of the other teams that could trade for CP3 would take the chance of trading so many assets for a great player, but one with an real injury risk.
BRIGGS wrote:this team is amare and ca and very little else and likely will stay that way
Now why would you say something like this? You do remember that the Knicks have capspace coming up and contrary to what many think they also still have Draft picks. Just not every year. This franchise has options to improve even if they don't add CP3. This franchise is in great shape!!! If in fact CP3 ends up going somewhere else before the start of the season, the Knicks can use their MLE on someone now to help.
