i'm guessing the Nets or Pacers now overpay David West. really feels like nothing changed with this lockout.
i'm not sad about CP3. didn't seem like we had the trade chips or enough cap room to make it happen. i honestly think the knicks MAY have a better chance to win it all with their frontline.
who the heck plays PF for the Lakers now? D. Caracter?
With Bynum suspended the first five games of the season, Lakers christmas game is gonna be funny.

After spending the last several years with a team of role players, he's finally realized they they need a guy to build around. Unfortunately, apparently he decided Gasol was that guy.

Gave up a pick too.
supposedly there are multiple picks involved. including the knicks 2012 pick from the jeffries/mcgrady deal. haha.
Does Morey realize Gasol can't handle being "the man". Please see Memphis Grizzlies as exhibit A.

they have a player option on bynum and paul will be a FA. i believe they can let both of them "wink wink" become free agents.
they have blake and fisher making a combined $7.4 million. kobe at 27 million. that puts total team around $34 million. they amnetsy either luke walton ($6 million) or artest ($7 million). assuming they do luke, they'd still have around 17 mil to offer a max deal to dwight.
so they offer a max to dwight, and then they can go over the cap to re-sign their own free agents. i think that's how it works. so you assume they go over the cap to sign CP3 and bynum, and, while they will be paying an absolutley ungodly amount in luxury tax (they'll be like 25 million over the cap; prob will pay like 50 mil a year in tax at least), they will field:
PG - CP3
SG- Kobe
SF - "metta world peace"
PF - bynum
C - howard
with blake and fisher off the bench. and then probably a bunch of guys playing for the veteran minimum chasing rings.
i can't remember a day this insane
cap holds for cp3/bynum? not sure your scenario works out. you can only sign your own free agents OVER the cap if they are still yours... meaning they have cap holds, right?
not sure; you may be right. i think CP3 can become a free agent, IE his contract just ends and he will be off the books. and bynum has a player opt out, so i'm assuming both will be on the market, and lakers can sign howard first, and then the other 2. but i could be wrong.

supposedly the Rockets have cap room and are in the lead to get Nene.
i mean, Nene can't be the man either and i have no idea what's left in the Rox backcourt (Lowry?), but Nene/Gasol/Lowry isn't a horrible start. they need some talent on the wing, but that's a playoffs team, if not a contender.

i think if the Lakers get Dwight, it'll definitely be a sign and trade involving Bynum.
you can't have Bynum and Dwight on the same team. makes no sense.
the money'll work... i think. but who knows?

LOL at the "basketball genius" Morey ripping off Memphis' front court formula.

They can certainly do a sign and trade for Dwight and Bynum, but they would have to renounce CP3. Howard = ~$20M, Kobe = $25M, that's $45M total, plus cap holds, etc. Luke Walton and Steve Blake take another $10M, that's $57M. No way can they fit CP3, Kobe, Howard on same team.

ah, well that's good to know. i hope they can't get dwight. i don't mind them getting cp3 for some reason. but dwight on top of that would be nuts.
maybe lakers trade cp3 for dwight and jameer
And people thought that all NOH could get would be Billups and a couple of young role players.
Bonn1997 wrote:And people thought that all NOH could get would be Billups and a couple of young role players.
thought CP3 would force the issue more. seems like he didn't and knicks were clued in on that early enough to make a move on chandler.
at least NYK wasnt left holding the bag. Boston was. apparently they thought they were so close they'd already scheduled a physical for CP3. Rondo must be furious.

i actually had this thought.
Bonn1997 wrote:And people thought that all NOH could get would be Billups and a couple of young role players.
In fairness no one was really proposing 3 team deals, since that is very difficult to figure out. Most of the ideas bounced around were straight deals between NOH and another team. I think most assumed that the Knicks weren't going to be the best offer possible, but that if CP3 resisted and if teams weren't willing to give up the goods then NY might end up being the only option left. Teams like GS and LAC didn't want to give up key young players and that along with no guarantee from CP3 is how LA got a shot with their 3 team deal. So the initial premise wasn't wrong. For NY to have a shot the top teams would have to bow out.
So the initial premise wasn't wrong.
It wasn't wrong so much as it was ridiculous.
Glad to see the assets the Knicks gave Houston are being put to good use.

Houston's agreed to send a 2012 first-round pick -- previously obtained from the Knicks -- to New Orleans as part of package, source says
Sucks to lose out on cp3, but my gut tells me chandler was the better pickup for the team. It's exactly what the team needed, this squad was good with felton, so we should be able to get someone with the mle.
Sidebar, how is it the lakers just seem to have people gifted to them. All the time

what about:
CP3 + Bynum
for
Dwight + Jameer + something else
