Knicks · Too easy to call: If Chandler is in the fold and no PG, which coach has the pefect system for that.... (page 1)

Phil Jackson.

Book it for next year if this unfolds as we expect at 2pm.

Melo as the focal point in the Triangle.

NY would almost be a mirror image of the Bulls/La Lakers in terms of personnel make-up: Post-up wing player who can dominate the offense, guards who can nail the 3, PG who is not really a PG but just hits open shots, big center, PF who can hit the jumper.

I just made a fresh pot of coffee.

The fix is in!

Would be nice

Mike Woodson is fine. He makes sure the stars get the ball. He ran the offense through Joe Johnson in Atlanta.
Bonn1997 @ 12/9/2011 9:53 AM
It's hard to have a guy with a bad assist:turnover ratio running your triangle.
nixluva @ 12/9/2011 9:54 AM
I don't really think the Triangle works unless the Center and the SG/SF are good passers. I don't know enough about Chandler to know if he can pass. It's possible that it could work, but it's also a lot harder than people realize and the players have to have certain skill sets and a ball sharing disposition to excel at it. SSOL is the opposite, you only need one player to be good at passing for it to work!

Besides I think the Knicks will have adequate PG play to run MDA's offense. Some PG's like TD haven't been able to run it but we saw Felton get the hang of it, even tho he's not a pure passer. Guys like Berea, Sessions, Bibby, TJ Ford, Chris Quinn, E Watson, Telfair and Arroyo are available. I still have faith that Iman can develop into a solid PG under MDA too. We'll see.

Ive always thought the one upside to having Phil is it means people here can no longer blame the coach. So when Melo doesnt defend, Amare cant play back to backs and Jared Jeffries is playing front rotation minutes we can stop blaming the coach and realize this is the roster and players we have.

Yes this is true. People also overlook that you need a player like Jordan or Kobe for the Triangle to really be an effective attack! There's a reason why this offense hasn't taken hold on more teams. NY fans scoff at Mike's system but more teams use his principles than Phil's. The reason is that you can make it work with less talent and size, which is a problem in the league. Look at how much it boosted the Spurs last year when they started playing a SSOL style of ball.

don't agree with you. Check out the CHI teams, they didn't need a C who was a good passer, they just needed a post guy who was a good passer. Shaq/Gasol fit the triangle well cause they were big men who could pass and were good decision-makers. Amare/Melo fit that.

It's the post player, not the position necessarily.

I'm not really feeling Phil anymore..I was all for Phil right around the time Brown got here...I'm not sure of the type of drive he still has...I'm not sure why he would come back..I like the type of coach that he represents tho..Not always about the X and O's but also about challenging the players as men...That's why I would prefer Doc with these players...I really don't see MDA as a fit anymore..These players need a leader or a coach they respect and I'm not sure MDA is that guy...
Olbrannon @ 12/9/2011 11:10 AM
Did not Woodson run exactly the same offense with 'that 2nd fiddle guy' in Cleveland?

Woodson was the Atlanta coach. new Lakers coach Mike Brown was the Cavs coach... is that what you mean?

who were to good and great players MDA has coached? Would you say they were pushed? I mean the two all stars he had to work with were Amare and Nash and isnt it fair to say he got those two playing the best bb of their career?

MDA still hasnt had a real team since he's been here. Last year there was talentm, but it was two teams and essentially a pump and dump for Melo.

Well, we are looking at starting the year w/ a Melo/Stat/Chandler front line and guards who can shoot and defend some.

I would say your looking at the Knicks core moving forward. Lets see how he coaches this team. A team with a Melo/Amare/Chandler frontcourt should be a top 4 seed, and at least a deep 2nd round team. Upside is we should be in the NBAs final 4

Childs2Dudley @ 12/9/2011 11:32 AM
Phil Jackson's teams require his big men to be playmakers. I don't believe Carmelo and especially Amar'e fall into the playmaker category.

Nevertheless, I would welcome Phil Jackson here with open arms. He could probably get the most of those guys.

crzymdups @ 12/9/2011 11:35 AM
I agree that Phil Jackson seems like a no-brainer candidate, but I question whether he'll actually come.

But the triangle with Amar'e and Melo and hopefully Iman and Toney seems like a no-brainer.

Which big men play-makers did he have on Chicago? He just needed POST players to be play-makers, which include Melo.
