Knicks · Free Agent PGs (page 1)

According to NBA.com, the following are free agents (I've deleted guys I consider shooting guards and guys who have already signed):

Arroyo, Carlos G 31 9yrs UFA BOS --- --- ---
Banks, Marcus G 29 8yrs UFA NOH --- --- ---
Barea, Jose G 26 5yrs UFA DAL --- --- ---
Boykins, Earl G 35 12yrs UFA MIL --- --- ---
Brooks, Aaron G 26 4yrs RFA PHX --- --- Suns make qualifying offer to Brooks
Carter, Anthony G 36 13yrs UFA NYK --- --- ---
Crawford, Jamal G 31 11yrs UFA ATL --- --- Free Agent Profile: Jamal Crawford
Law, Acie G 26 4yrs UFA GSW --- --- ---
Mills, Patrick G 22 2yrs RFA POR --- --- ---
Price, Ronnie G 28 6yrs UFA UTA --- --- ---
Quinn, Chris G 27 5yrs UFA SAS --- --- ---
Shakur, Mustafa G 26 1yrs RFA WAS --- --- ---
Stuckey, Rodney G 25 4yrs RFA DET --- --- Free Agent Profile: Rodney Stuckey
Watson, Earl G 32 10yrs UFA UTA --- --- ---
West, Delonte G 27 7yrs UFA BOS --- --- ---
West, Mario G 27 4yrs UFA NJN --- --- ---
Williams, Jason G 35 12yrs UFA* ORL --- --- ---

Slim picking, indeed, especially considering the Knicks probably $2-3 million (whatever that cap exception is).

- Brooks is in China until March; plus he's restricted.
- Delonte is a complete knucklehead, and I think BOS will pick him back up.
- Stuckey and Crawford almost certainly will get full MLE.

We are looking at Chris Quinn (probably not a true point but a great shooter), Arroyo (pretty washed up), Boykins (tiny), Anthony Carter (had him last year; absolutely nothing special), Earl Watson (washed up).

Not looking good, folks. Knicks should just monitor the Amnesty stuff and sign whoever the best guy is, whether he's a big, a wing, or a point.

This is why I think Davis just might be our best possible option if they amnesty him.

if davis is amnestied, every team under the cap has dibs before knicks can get him.

Sure but he still has the option of who to sign with.

I don't think that's how it works. If teams bid on him, he will NOT have the option.

RonRon @ 12/9/2011 6:26 PM
I think Barea ran the pick and roll very well last year, but he was had great shooters as well.
Regardless, from a talent point of view, he is the best option but I think he won't settle for under 5 for 3 years each.

or we can pull a Felton on him, come boost up your points in MDA offense, for the 2.5m exception?
This is only going to work assuming no one is paying him MLE 3-4 years.

I think Shumpert will eventually step in to the starting PG.
I would be happy with a Earl Watson or Deltone West in the mean time.
Tj Ford could be a cheap fix as well.

Tom Haberstroh has an ESPN Insider article that mentions Kirk Hinrich might be an amnesty cut. I'm not crazy about him, but we could do a lot worse. At the very least, he'll push the ball and play tough defense.

right. if you are amnestied, then you go to a blind auction process and all of the teams beneath the salary cap can bid on you. the highest bid gets the player, and the team that amnestied him pays the difference between what he was owed and what the new team is paying him. i do NOT believe teams over the cap are able to bid, but i am not sure. i know that the teams beneath the cap get first dibs, not sure how it works, if there are two rounds, or whatever.

only if no teams bid on you does the player become a free agent and thus have the option to "choose" where he wants to go.

You're right....found a NY Times article. Basicially the player is placed on waivers and all teams are able to make a claim. Those teams bid and the player goes to the highest bidder. Also, those players are still paid by the team but the salary does not count against the cap.

Interesting - Warriors just waived Jeremy Lin. He doesn't seem big enough to play in the NBA, but could be worth a camp invite.

ooohhh...Definately an invite worthy.

I wouldn't want to deal with restricted FA's for this position.

Jeremy Lin is an interesting player, work a training camp invite for sure.

BigSm00th @ 12/9/2011 8:11 PM

Yes, and we can offer him a nice full MLE for one year.
