I think we will trade Jordan sometime soon, and I agree, that is fine. However, I'd rather trade Balkman to Dallas and relieve us of his contract which goes for 2 years.
I think they'll still end up trading Turiaf.

Yeah but that was the best option at the time and the amnesty clause didn't exist when it was picked up. It's actually a bit of unusual foresight on the Knicks' part that they pursued Chandler and didn't wait for a star knowing that they were out of the race.

Yeah, after the Melo trade, I was pushing for the Knick's not pick up his contract the more I watched him. He just doesn't mix in well at this point of his career with what we were doing. Most importantly, it would have allowed us to go after a FA center, which we knew were going to be available. Maybe never imagining Tyson Chandler be available but there was still Dalembert/Kris Humphries/Nene.
After our exit in the 1st round, some people on the board said, the 4.4ish mill that would be used to buy out Billup's contract would be held against the cap.
I don't know, I totally agree we shouldn't have picked it up after what we saw in Billup's vs what Felton provided.
I don't think anyone also thought we would gain an amnesty clause to use either.
Turiaf, is a pretty good backup. He is just not a starter. However, Sean Williams should get a look at if we did trade Turiaf.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any takers. If we have to give 3m to unload Turiaf, it would make more sense to keep him.
Even though its not my money and Dolan has plenty to waste, it just wouldn't make sense. Is anyone sure, we don't get to use the MLE with this trade scenario?

With the buyout, New York would only be about 9 million under the cap if they renounced Brown because of Chauncey's cap hit, so they'd basically get Dalembert and that's it (because apparently he's not taking MLE money and Nene is basically getting the same money as Chandler). All things considered, the Knicks were better off keeping Billups because his expiring deal was a potential trade chip. They caught a lucky break with the anmesty clause, really. Chandler is significantly better than Dalembert, too.

New York will go under the cap by waiving Billups and then back over by signing Chandler, losing the MLE with this deal.
Why not sending Dallas Balkman? The article mentions low salary not least years remaining, right? So why giving them a trade asset/possible bench player in Jordan when WE get to chose? Even if it can't be Balkman, you send Rautins or Walker, who have less value.
if we don't have a MLE to use, I would prefer to use the 2.5 exemption to be used to retain Shawne Williams, especially if Brown is now gone.
So after all this, we cut Brown for no reason? I actually don't see any news regarding Brown being cut or signed by Bobcats.
I hope we hold on to Turiaf for depth

It doesn't say we get to choose. Just says a low salaried player. Hope it is Balkman though.
Do we get the MLE back next season to get Nash?
Nash would be cool and all but that really puts us in a "Must absolutely win-now" mode. Ideally, I think it'd be better for the Knicks to try and get Felton back if affordable.
A fist bump and a "we cool?" should do the trick

if you over the cap, you get the MLE every year.

That's what I thought. Excellent. Nash will be like Red Bull for the Knicks.

In the last CBA, I think you couldn't use cap space to sign an FA and then also use the MLE. Has that changed? I'd assume we'd be hearing about players bigger than Bibby if we had the MLE available.

If he doesn't break his hip.

sigh. seems like this has to be explained in every thread. The Knicks amnesty Billups to get UNDER the cap, thus losing their MLE privileges, and then end up over the cap. End of story.

Seriously this isn't rocket science. Once we sign Chandler we go right back over the cap again.
